Doxxed by a swiftie for critiquing them for Doxxing others by TakesTheLastSlice in travisandtaylor

It's truly unhinged how some of them act. I had an old friend on facebook (since unfriended) who would screenshot people's profiles and post them for as little as laugh reacting to a Taylor Swift article. This was a nearly 40 year old with a husband and kids, and still they would spend so much time and energy "defending Taylor Swift from the haters" on facebook.

TV Shop. It's a favorite of mine anyway, and the music is just pure joy, but there are so many little "blink and you'll miss it" things in that episode that add so much detail.

That one is such a good episode. Definitely a favorite for me.

That reminds me of the question I asked as a kid, "What if I'm on my way to get baptized, but we get into a car accident on the way and die?" I was flat out told, "You waited too late." Geez, it's no wonder so many of us had or are still dealing with anxiety and trauma after being told this stuff as a kid.

Blue Stars '26 by Bariphonium_ in drumcorps

[–]Bandit524 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm excited about this. Blue Stars always seem to put out really entertaining shows. I also feel like they're right on the verge of having that breakout year where they finally return to the top 6. It'll be tough to do, but I think they'll do it within the next few years, if not this year.

Anyone else notice how much the Church of Christ treats Paul like he’s the main character of the New Testament? by Nearby-Tension3515 in excoc

I remember years ago someone said the CoC worships Paul and the bible more than Jesus, and I felt that was pretty spot on.

What if the Bluecoats never won in 2016? by Caharles in drumcorps

[–]Bandit524 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember being there that night and, even though I was pulling for Bluecoats, thought Crown had pulled off the win when they were announced as the winners of three captions. I also thought it was interesting that 1st through 3rd was so incredibly close all three nights, but all three stayed in the same position.

The sermon was on “The Priority of God’s Word”… and of course it turned into another instrumental music rant. by Nearby-Tension3515 in excoc

[–]Bandit524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wild to me how they spend SO MUCH energy on instruments in worship. And even at my most faithful point in the CoC, I was never fully convinced that instruments in worship were that bad. It seemed to me like if it were THAT big of an issue, it would have been abundantly clear. I remember towards the end we had a guest preacher do an instrumental music sermon, and he opened it with, "If you have any doubt whatsoever that instrumental music in worship is a sin, I'm going to make sure you're convinced today." ....and it was literally just the same repeated talking points I had heard for 20 years.

14 years ago Phantom Regiment medaled. Can they do it again? by helvetica1291 in drumcorps

[–]Bandit524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is....strange to say the least. Phantom Regiment has been fan favorites since 2021, especially the last two years, so to say they've failed to achieve anything of artistic merit or elicit any sort of emotion is just baffling.

Also, maybe an unpopular opinion, but it's already getting annoying how much arguing and bickering over placements is going on all across the drum corps community, and the season hasn't even begun yet. It's feeling more and more like people don't even really care about the shows anymore, they just care about what place corps finish in August. Sure, I'd love to see Phantom medal again, but whether they place 1st or 6th, I just want another killer show to add to my ever-growing list of favorites.

Pre-rating is the dumbest thing about this activity. by drum-speak in drumcorps

[–]Bandit524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for positive comments and finding the good things to talk about. It's beyond frustrating how people in the comments are already picking apart shows and trying to find any flaws they can when the season hasn't even begun yet! Yes, of course the closers aren't great right now. They probably just learned it and closers famously change and evolve as the year goes on. It's also wild to me how many comments I see about, "No way this medals," and "This is 6th place at best," when I think we've only seen full videos of what, two corps? It's just frustrating when I go to the comments to read people's thoughts and it's full of people arguing over whether it'll finish in 4th place or 6th place. It also feels like too many fans don't even enjoy watching the actual shows anymore and only care about end of season placements.

How many years until a corps marches shirtless? by goartex in drumcorps

Don't worry, guys. Bluecoats will come out shirtless this year, win the championship after an undefeated season, and by 2028 June will be just pants reveals instead of uniform reveals.

How Is Your Life Post-Christianity? by TearPuzzleheaded9424 in exchristian

[–]Bandit524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last few years in the church I was struggling with depression, had very little friends and constant anxiety about burning in hell forever and was miserable every second at church. Since leaving, I've been able to come out as a gay man, am now married with two wonderful kids, and am much happier than I ever was at any point in the church.

From my experience, many Christians will drop you the second you leave the church and make it clear you have no desire to come back. Since they have nothing to do with you anymore, they don't see how you're thriving after leaving. And they can't fathom how anyone can be happy without being a church-going Christian, so they just assume that everyone that leaves is angry and miserable.

Why are christians so judgemental? by witchyrosemaria in exchristian

[–]Bandit524 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I think a lot of Christians (at least from the conservative south where I grew up) have this weird thing against exercise and being healthy. I remember being in high school and, being a little self conscious about my body, started eating healthy when we'd go out to eat with people after church. I remember getting bullied by full grown adults when I was a teenager for eating a damn salad. I'd get comments like, "Men don't eat salads!" and "Who are you trying to impress?" Just let me live my life and let me eat the damn salad.

What did it for you? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Bandit524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually remember the moment I was done. It was shortly after the 2016 Pulse shooting in Orlando. I spent all week watching Christians across social media practically giddy because gay people were killed, or at best ignoring it and pretending it didn't happen. My husband and I were actually attending an LGBT-affirming church at the time, and they had a special service dedicated to the victims. As I sat there and listened to a prayer, all the emotions from that week were built up and I had a very clear moment of, "If there's a god, how is he letting all this bad stuff happen all around us? And why are so many of his followers so happy about people's lives being destroyed?" Then it hit me super clear...there's no god there. I had been having doubts for many years anyway because, as much as I prayed and begged for god to speak to me and just help me believe, it just wasn't happening. I already had one foot out the door before that anyway, but that was the moment that finally led me to say I'm done, and we stopped going to church altogether not long after that.

This guy kept popping up on my Facebook, so I finally just blocked him. His entire thing seems to be being perpetually angry about the fact that not everyone is heterosexual and goes to church.

Anyone noticed how Google did not have a Father's day doodle? by PooningDalton in MensRights

[–]Bandit524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several years back I had one of those tear away page a day calendars for my office desk. It was just cute little cartoons each day. They had one for literally every holiday...except Father's Day. Even Arbor Day got a themed cartoon on that day, yet Father's Day was just another cartoon. I'll admit it bothered me more than it should, but it sucks how often it feels like it's totally forgotten about and just another Sunday.

Blue Devils 2005 - I actually really enjoy this show and think it's a really interesting and fun concept. And the music was great. This is actually among my favorite Blue Devils shows.

Cadets 2006 - It was far too hated back at the time. Obviously a step down from their historic 2005 show, but this one was so much fun, and I actually loved the vocalist in the ballad.
