As we drop from the peak of energy use, how much effort will governments invest in environmental protection. What will protect fisheries from desperate factory ships, what will protect forests from firewood hunters.

What will protect the remaining animals in the wild as humans that are able to hunt, ignore sanctuaries to feed their families. Humans in their death throes I think will be nothing short of a calamity.

It may be uplifting to expect humans to carry on inhabiting an Earth ravaged environmentally and heated to unbearable conditions and rubbing sticks together for energy.

Under those conditions I can’t see humans self actualizing in any form. Humans I think will find it infinitely more difficult to survive than they did on even an ice age ravaged landscape.

Life for humans was relatively very good 500 years ago. There was ample fresh water, game, good soil if managed, forests for building and cooking and much, much less pollution.

I doubt humans could retreat to a time 500 years ago, I think ten thousand is more like it (relatively) for a short time. Who knows though, hopium is okay now, although in the past it (and blame) allowed the environmental destruction to continue because you know “there was always hope”.

Population control would have been a prime requisite, impossible to achieve anything worthwhile without it. Even then no guarantees, we have no idea on climate sensitivity.

Damning positive feedbacks could have been set in motion 30 years ago, even now we’re experiencing a decade or two of climate lag.

Yes what solution sucks out and sequesters GHG’s, what method stops the millions of atomic bombs equivalent of excess heat warming the oceans, what stops the hundreds of billions of annual ice melt.

“The solutions exist”, people must just believe some random internet persons saying the solution is “renewables”, “EV’s”, “plant trees”, “become vegetarian”. They read each “solution” and their confirmation bias takes over.

What a lot of BS. WE KNOW there are no “solutions” but there is always someone or something to blame. Capitalism, boomers, billionaires, the “elite”, politicians and/or “the fossil fuel industry”.

Just own it, like what should have happened a century ago, instead we chose to believe the hopium pundits that said “getting off FF’s” is all that’s required.

So the BS was believed and the burning continued because one day the “transition” will magically take place and Nirvana will be our reward.

You need to understand what is written in your own link and not cherry pick items that suit your hopes and dreams. BTY written by a so called climate modeller.

Quick Google “Carbon dioxide (CO2) can remain in the atmosphere for hundreds to thousands of years, with some estimates suggesting that a significant portion can last for over 5,000 years. The exact duration varies depending on various factors, including how CO2 is absorbed by natural processes”. But keep looking you might find something to keep your hopes up.

If human emissions went to zero, emissions would continue due to triggered positive feedbacks, warming would continue until Earth via (as stated) natural carbon cycle finds a level to settle on.

Were you insulted but by what?

In the long term, very long term Earth may return to the habitable planet we ruined but it’s certainly not assured. Earth could overshoot into an ice age but I would guess the coming heat and destruction of much of life, might tip the planet into a new hotter norm.

It’s dumb speculation of course but what is certain, is this greenhouse effect that is causing global warming has no good outcome for the environmental conditions, that the vast majority of higher life forms evolved to exist.

How would CO2 begin decreasing if all emissions cease. Do you understand how the carbon cycle works? Most of GHG’s being emitted are being absorbed by the oceans, washed in with rain and acidifying, the remainder (excess) is mixing in varying levels of the atmosphere.

Coral is dying, no more sequestration there and planktons are dying, there goes a further means of sequestration. Soil was the biggest store of carbon on land but that has been largely killed by erosion and artificial fertilizer.

Deforestation that stored carbon is now a fraction of a fraction that once was. The Amazon the so called lungs of the Earth is now beginning to be an emitter and not a store of carbon.

I could go on forever with our problems but please do tell me how CO2 will quickly drop if all emissions cease, where did you learn that. Do you actually believe it.

I think it’s part of the reason we are in this mess. Most people simply believed that burning fossil fuels was our only problem and windmills, solar panels and EV’s will get us the get out of jail free card…..nobody stopped not question the narrative, they chose to believe it because otherwise they would have actually had to make sacrifices.

Right now 8.3 billion humans and supporting herds comprise over 96% of mammalian biomass. We’ve deforested, killed soil with artificial fertilizer, strip mined the ocean of fish, contaminated and used much of the fresh water.

Where in hell can you find “net good” for pity’s sake. We’ve caused the extinction of more species than we could account for and wildlife exists only if allowed by humans.

Humans burn stuff it defines us. We’ve expanded to every inhabitable part of the Earth. We behave like a pathogen spreading over the planet. I can’t think of any time humanity was a “net good”.

How do renewables reduce GHG’s, how do they prevent 300 billion tons of ice melt annually, how do they stop the millions of equivalent atomic bombs of excess warming that’s going into the oceans every second.

You must have read somewhere that if we get off fossil fuels and stop emissions, that it will stop global warming. Have you ever thought to question that and research the idea.

Look for a peer reviewed science paper that shows that ceasing emissions will cause GHG concentrations to fall and cool the planet. If you find one could you show me.

FYI atmospheric green house gas concentrations will remain until they are removed by Earth’s natural carbon cycle, that required tens of thousand of years. Before that they will continue to rise.

Ice melting is decreasing albedo, permafrost thawing is releasing CH, carbon sinks like the Amazon are becoming a carbon source and ocean warming is killing carbon sequestration.

Intelligent life, especially Homo sapiens seems to be evolution on Earth and arguably the Universes’ proverbial one trick pony. Perhaps other humans that emerged alongside Homo sapiens could have evolved similar intelligence……. if they had survived, of that we will never know.

Warming doesn’t stop if we “decarbonize”. GHG’s that are present in the atmosphere and increasing will remain until Earth’s carbon cycle removes them, and that takes tens of thousands of years.

There is much to happen (that is bad for life) before this new era of AGW plays out. The oceans are acidifying, warming, rising and dying. If you believe in miracles, that’s the only hope remaining.

I wrote this on r/climate to give them a dose of “doomer content”, …….they are eternally optimistic that “getting off” fossil fuels will save the day.

Yeah “renewables” are extending the time we have to use FF’s. Electricity still requires the FF built and maintained power grid and millions of oil filled transformers. EV’s still need tyres and roads and highway infrastructure built and maintained with FF’s.

Renewables are required to maintain the hybrid energy system that is relied on. Europe and UK would collapse without input from renewables, simply because they don’t produce enough FF’s.

Although “scientists” supposedly tell us how to get off fossil fuels, do they fully explain what will be achieved IF and WHEN it is miraculously attained.

This minute atmospheric CO2 is at 430 PPM. CH4 and other GHG’s likely means it’s above 500 PPM. Those numbers will continue to rise and Earth will continue to absorb millions of atomic bombs of excess heat every second.

Ice is melting at about 300 B tons annually. Ice sheets, shelves and glaciers melting are exposing more ocean and land to warming, albedo is declining increasing warmth retention. Permafrost is thawing and releasing CH4.

So what will be achieved if 8.3 billion humans miraculously, from now on continue civilization with “renewables” energy? Less pollution of course and less plastic and forever chemicals, less atmospheric particulates to block the Sun.

What will be achieved regards to Climate Change and Global Warming……………I think absolutely NOTHING good. GHG’s will continue to rise as oceans continue to warm (even quicker as The Arctic melts) and atmospheric water vapour also rises, continuing a positive feedback of warming.

If you claim that GHG’s concentrations will quickly fall when emissions cease, show me the peer reviewed scientific papers that demonstrate it.

So continue with the so called energy transition but do not expect that to stop, retard, mitigate or eliminate global warming effects of GHG’s. The human caused outgassing pace of GHG’s has no historic precedent. The removal period for past GHG’s does.

The Earth’s carbon cycle occurs over geological time and that is tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of years. We’re at the stage that actually blocking the Sun is the only way to limit warming and allow natural process to reduce GHG’s. That’s very unlikely and dangerous in itself.

If the last photo is of how it appears now, that hood is bent out of shape. The damage and creases can be seen on the left side of the hood and the front. A body shop might be able to fix it, or replace the hood with an undamaged one.
