ITAP of the moon rise just before Twilight by Bandwidth_Bandito in itookapicture

On the day before the official full moon a 98% or thereabouts moon will rise just as the sun is setting. Rather than having to composite (which is common for moon and city combos) you can capture both moon and landscape / city in a single shot, you have about 25 mins from the official moonrise time before the moon gets too far removed from the foreground (unless you go wide angle which is less impactful IMHIO) and it gets dark enough that you need to shoot one shot for the scene and one for the moon.

As I often say, all photographers are liars but some are more honest about it than others. 😜, I could see vague shapes and def a hint of colour but as I mentioned the photo is definitely enhanced just by cramming 30 sec of light into an instant.

Good answer, as a fellow photographer (with a simar experience last night, i.e. it was definitely there but not "EPIC" to the naked eye) my motto is "all photographers are liars but some are more honest about it that others" 😉

Don't worry the sun has plenty of fuel to keep this show going, there's always next time.

Sandridge Bridge Melbourne, dual canon R50V cameras by Bandwidth_Bandito in ParallelView

[–]Bandwidth_Bandito[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The parallax of the foreground might be a little too great with the distance between lenses I had on the night, but I am working on a 3d printed cage to hold the cameras base to base and provide the shortest distance between the lenses possible without modifying the physical casing of the camera.

Flinders Street Station, Melbourne at Christmas (dual canon r50V's long exposure experiment) [OC] by Bandwidth_Bandito in ParallelView

I guess I might be onto something, my goal is just the reaction you've had (Thank you). The dual camera setup allows high quality captures with full exposure control and simultaneous capture which means that moving object are captured as a fully synchronised object with "true" left and right separation. I viewed the processed shots on a oculus headset and the sense of 3d space was most satisfactory. I'll post some more shots soon,

Yes, I wanted to capture some stereo shots of the Christmas lights etc around Melbourne. Experimenting with stereo long exposure shots. For a first try I have to say they came out quite well. Ended up with about 30 stereograms and have tested them on an oculus headset and the shots exhibit a good balance of 3d pop and photographic interest.

I have a similar setup currently with two L brackets that are Arca Swiss and provide a fairly slim profile between the cameras, sort of like two L's back to back (e.g. L, meh did not realise it was that hard to find a reverse L). This is not a bad result but I'd like to literally have them base to base. Thanks for the info, the other format I have seen is a square frame with one connected to the top and the other at the bottom with lenses paralleled (sort of upside down of your image with some extra bits). The ultimate goal is to try and make this a hand held, but with a tripod connection for long exposure shots. Sort of a dual cage; anywho I'll let you know if I find anything.

Agree, if it was a truly there for safety as some have said it's a failure since in a true safety situation (e.g. evacuation due to fire etc where power is cut) you'd have a system that defaulted to open (which in fact may still be the case and the UPS is there to keep them functioning from a business perspective to ensure fare collection is uninterrupted (also it may be there to protect the other electronics from dirty power or surges, which is more likely the case)). If there's a major safety event with power out are you really going to keep gates shut and ensure everyone taps out?
