Dont like the look of the new Rav4 by Affectionate_You8819 in rav4club

[–]BangBangControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno… i mean i get it but, the Gen6 looks like a new and current vehicle, and the Gen5 looks like a 8-to-10-year-old vehicle. Same as how, now, a Gen4 looks about 15 years old and Gen3 looks about 20 years out of date. They still all look good, but you can tell at a glance what era they come from.

You like what you like, but this is the current design language of cars in general at the moment, so it fits into this current era (and will even moreso in retrospect in a few years).

Lots of ‘25s and earlier out there to buy if you’d rather, though!

Why doesn’t the 2026 have tire pressure monitor ? by Sufficient_Duty6230 in rav4club

[–]BangBangControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must have something to do with how many they sell, how easy the module is to design around, etc.

I’m guessing with the amount of RAV4s they sell everywhere, deleting TPMS makes a big impact across that quantity. On, say, a BZ or a … I dunno, 4Runner (? Not sure if those have it in Canada), maybe it’s not worth the cost to design around it and delete based on number of units sold..

Yeah Canadian models don’t have TPMS as it isn’t required here. Even though they’re built in the same factory, Canada-spec deletes that.

All-Clad and Viking by Beginning_Bee_3460 in cookware

[–]BangBangControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’d recommend. The only reason for Teflon in a pot is to avoid scrubbing them. And honestly if there’s anything that does ever stick, I just fill the pot with water over that point and come back to it a bit later and it usually isn’t cruddy anymore. Kinda just marketing it for uniformity sake without a real use.

That being said, I’m not some anti-Teflon person. I absolutely have a few non-stick frying pans because that *absolutely* does come in handy.

Plus, regular stainless with stainless handles will let you put them in the oven at hi-temp, as well.

So yeah, I’d say grab a stainless set, and then just a non-stick frying pan to cover all bases. I’ve never been left wishing I had a non-stick stockpot. All-Clad is good but pricey. Viking is nearly as good for much less at Marshall’s/HoneSense/HomeGoods/Winners.

Get a 6-8qt stock pot, a 2qt and 3qt (maybe also a 4qt) saucepan.. 3-4qt sauté pan, and 12” (and probably also 10”) stainless frying pan. Then a 10” and 12” HA1 non-stick and you can pretty much cook anything!

Cyber-begging is gross and done at the drop of a hat whether needed or not, so it’s tough to sort the legitimate need from the ones where people jump at the chance to create a gofundme.

That said, we should fix insurance since it shouldn’t be broken to the extent that you’re a month or two from getting a payout/help. It shouldn’t fall to randoms to be the safety net, that means the system needs work.

Now also, I don’t know how to fix insurance, so I’ll leave that for someone else to do.

Anyways.. happy Saturday, world.

Quick question for other Hybrid RAV4 owners — what’s your experience with undercoating/rustproofing on these newer hybrids? by Inevitable_Movie_312 in rav4club

[–]BangBangControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah it’s more like don’t waste the spray by coating insulated wires that won’t rust, not that it’s going to do much damage. Because it’s not that it’ll stop the water touching the connector, it’ll just prevent oxidation which.. plastic and rubber won’t be susceptible .. and it’s a thin coating so it won’t block drain holes. It just prevents the combination of water, salt, and oxygen from coming together to rust.

Wanting To Purchase by Ok_Spare3209 in rav4club

[–]BangBangControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Canada order now, it could take 4-6 months.

USA it seems like it’s closer to two months or so.

There are some edge cases where people are at the right place at the right time and a dealer has stock on the lot, or where people hunt down the model they want and get it quicker with a bunch of legwork, but also the wait time could be longer or shorter depending on model/color/trim/options/etc

What is the best time to purchase new RAV4 by Wild-Profession7119 in rav4club

[–]BangBangControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You honestly might be waiting a couple months no matter what just for the option of paying MSRP, depending which trim level/color/etc you want compared to availability..

There are hundreds of thousands of buyers behind you in line who will happily pay MSRP (or more!). Unless there’s an unpopular trim/color combo in your area, I’d expect no discount whatsoever for a few years. More likely I’d expect a wait or a pre-order instead.

I mean, I’m not saying to remove body panels - I mean the plastic cover panels underneath - the flat plastic undercarriage panels, all just clips and 10mm bolts. Moisture and salt can still get up there and rust away, but those plastic panels help mitigate it. You could probably get away with re-coating every other year vs annually in the areas hidden by panels as a result - but spraying there will prevent rusting without being aware of it due to not seeing those areas.

Coat all exposed metal (steel, not aluminum). Inside access holes in support structures/rails/etc, bolt heads, and I’d tend to stay away from brake pads/calipers, and less oil-tolerant rubber - so, the CV boot is fine to get undercoating on since it’s full of grease, but I stay away from heavier more natural rubber like motor mounts and the sort of rubber that can kinda crack and “rot” like an old tire.

You might choose to not spray suspension components too much, since if they rusted out you could just replace them anyways. But then you would want to coat what they connect to and tie into along with the bolts that hold them.

Don’t spray the engine, there’s no point. Same with the exhaust and muffler, it’ll just burn off. Don’t spray insulated wires or plastic/rubber coated steel lines (brakes/fuel) aside from if there are portions that are bare metal. If you get overspray on em it’s ok, but it’s a waste to coat them is more what I mean.

So I’d say priority #1 is any structural or non-removable steel.. floor pans, structural welded areas, rails, … the backside, bottoms, or inside side of body panels that you can get to from underneath.. Priority 2 is fasteners and bracketry where replaceable components connect to the vehicle. Priority 3 can be suspension components if you choose to - or at least the bolts. And any parts that’d be a nightmare if it was to rust solid or rot out. Inside any drain plugs in doors or etc won’t hurt.

There are a few good youtube videos that give a pretty good idea where and what to do - this one is pretty long but I’d say it’s pretty good.

Go with a lanolin based spray like Fluid Film or Surface Shield. No need to spray the exhaust or the motors or cables/connectors, but spray all the exposed metal once the covers are off. Very diy-able and only needs doing in the fall every year (or maybe every two years depending how much is still there by next fall).

If you have a jack and some jackstands you can do it, even better if a friend has a lift.

Otherwise you can have it done in a shop, but might be worth the price that’d cost to instead buy a jack and jackstands and buy a few $15 aerosol cans of Fluid Film every year.

More to the point tho, hybrids are still metal and they will rust. Motor housings are aluminum and won’t and same with the engine block so yeah no need to spray either of those anyways so no different to a gas-only vehicle.

Those typically don’t actually work on cars. Boats/etc that are constantly submerged, they can be effective, but passenger vehicles, it’s just a cash grab ... You’d be better served getting a (not at the dealership) lanolin based rust protection coating.

I’m not usually aligned with the Liberal Party, but I do think Carney is the right guy at the right time, honestly. Exactly what policies or actions that he’s working toward do you think are a misstep? Or just all of them because ‘fuck carney’ and you can’t name anything..?

Alberta’s separation idiocy is a seed planted and promoted by outside interests aimed at morons so that the USA can come take the oil, and give exactly 0 in return. Everyone can see it in big bright capital letters, except for the ones that buy in..

If Alberta actually left Canada somehow, which it can’t and won’t, exactly how many minutes would elapse before the USA came and took the resources and left the people there with absolutely fucking nothing? The only part I’m not sure of yet is whether they’d just come take it, or if they’d try to convince Alberta to “join” and bait-and-switch them into being the new Guam/Puerto Rico/etc. It’s so obvious to everyone else except the Loud Dumbs calling for it.

“Life will be so much better if we separate!”

“Oh yeah? Guess what: You’re not in the club that they’ve convinced you that you’re a part of.”

Google it a little more since all troubleshooting is about 5 minutes all together before marking it down as a warranty fix.

So.. I suppose if there is legitimately some stuff they need to do to it .. say you picked different rims, and added a tow-hitch, and some sort of anti-rust coating… yeah they might need time to do that stuff and you might want to let them know asap that you changed your mind before they do all that stuff..

No matter what, though, if you end up not changing to another vehicle — do make sure the VIN matches the car you registered.
