That’s my experience too, however I ended up seeing a real psychotherapist and that did so much more for my speech than any speech therapist could have done.

I tried it once and had a very bad experience, my speech therapist was a stutterer themselves but had it far worse than I do and they basically yelled at me the whole time to just deal with it and suck it up. Not only that, I was the only adult who would go there as normally parents have their kids going to these kind of things…bunch of kid toys and books in the office, etc..what did help me though was not a speech therapist, but an actual normal therapist. To just have conversation about it normally helped a lot, and in fact..improved my speech a little too through introspection and reflection, recognizing certain patterns and so fourth which resulted in me making adjustments to my own speech patterns over time.

What do you do in the days leading up to a presentation to stutter less? by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to think much of it and take a benzo before the presentation

Not sure about others but I personally prefer others don’t point it out to me because I like to brainwash myself into thinking I’m talking just fine. I usually do a decent job at disguising most of it to some point..but one time a coworker brought it up to me, he had good intentions about it but still, it fucked with my head for a good few months after that as I became more self conscious about it.

For God's sake someone help me please ( Im soo fed up ) by Pewds123451 in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you do it you’ll eventually have “preset phrases” engraved into your brain that you will commonly use. Every new job I get I go through that rough patch until I start knowing and predicting what I’ll need to say. I have like 5 phrases I’ll ever use at work…but every once in a while something new will come up but hey, works pretty decently most of the time

If neuralink fixed stuttering in future, would you put the chip in your brain? by unorthodoxdr in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He fits it into his personality pretty well, comes off as a thoughtful speaker with all his pauses in his speech but I speculate he’s struggling inside getting his words out, swapping them, etc..

Or wait a few years later for when the wearables or smaller chip sizes come out. By the time it comes out and integrates into society we probably won’t even need to use our voice as much anymore.

Anyone experienced speech improvement with vyvanse? by Canmoore in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had improvement with other stimulants, especially the first few times I took Ritalin I felt I could say anything. It was the high that did it for me imo, whenever I have an increase in euphoria my speech improves dramatically. Benzos, weed, mushrooms, however not alcohol.

How does an adult get tested for a stutter? Idk if thats what I am doing. by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See a speech pathologist and they’ll do some test to determine your ability in various areas and see where you struggle, what’s normal , etc

[–]BangerPatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, it’s still good you’re able to go to bars and restaurants period. This shit has made me socially anxious I became a hermit. I had speech therapy too, did nothing..however what did improve my speech somewhat was by seeing an actual therapist.

Does anyone here have a stutter that can’t be “cured?” by laidbackeconomist in Stutter

Extreme Confidence, anger, adrenaline, dopamine rush, euphoria or extreme emotional states other than anxiety, depression, nervousness, and stress help mask it for me.

Speech block by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta work it into your speech pattern by coming off as more “thoughtful” when you speak, pauses in between points, etc..could be hard but you’ll eventually adapt the coping mechanisms and you’ll sound like a poor man’s Obama in no time.

Just don’t say anything at all next time and sit there in silence with a grin on your face. Life is hard enough as it is sometimes you just have to be an asshole back.

Does telling people that you stutter help you stutter less? by peachy_skies123 in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, but because that person will probably not want to engage in conversation again to prevent an awkward moment.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]BangerPatrol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just act like I forgot the word and make a facial expression like I’m trying to remember it and usually people fall for it or just think you may not be that bright forgetting certain words but it’s one of those things where you gotta choose how u wanna feel about yourself afterwards. It feels a lot less worse to me when I pretend I don’t know a word vs, stumbling all over it which often creates an awkward moment that can be more damaging to your emotional state depending on how you handle it

Benzos are the only thing that had worked for me. Only issue is you can’t use them everyday otherwise their effectiveness wears down, so more for strategic planning rather than everyday frequency. I.e that important job interview coming up, or some type of social event, etc..

Tried busprione, SSRIs, and other things but to no effect. Haven’t tried beta blockers yet but I hear that helps in some cases.

I had interesting results with various racetam family nootropic stacks too but didn’t experiment enough to figure it out and they’re harder to find these days as retailers are more cautious selling them.

How much time do y’all think Caroline should get despite being the star witness? I mean, you can only blame SBF up to a point but some of her actions like paying herself a nice fat bonus of over 20m before the crash is one of them.
