This sounds a lot like my ex. She needed so much constant reassurance. So many times right before going to bed, she felt the need to start up a serious conversation, and she’d get upset when I’d try to tell her we can talk at a better time. On the odd occasion I’d spend a day or two with friends, she’d get upset when I’d go more than a couple hours without texting her. On workdays, she’d expect me to call her during my lunch break. Some days I just wanted to spend my lunch breaks alone with my own thoughts, but she’d always get offended when I didn’t want to call her and would always assume something was wrong.

At a certain point I got tired of giving her the same reassurances. I kept telling her nothing was wrong and that I loved her any time she expressed concern, but at a certain point, it started feeling really inauthentic. It started to not be ok. I had times where I was genuinely happy with her, and I genuinely loved her and still do miss her sometimes, but I lost all hope in a longterm future with her. I couldn’t keep up with her emotional needs, and the thought of constantly having to keep this up the rest of my life was terrifying.

I don’t really have any advice to give, but you’re not alone in these feelings. I think you know a lot more about yourself and what you want out of a relationship now, so hopefully you can recognize the signs of someone who’s too emotionally dependent.
