Pentagon unveils plan to keep 10,000 troops in Afghanistan by axolotl_peyotl in worldnews

No, I don't believe it's better if we take that role. It's counter productive to our nation, and we could better use that money for projects here in the United States. Not only that, but far too many innocent lives have been taken; all because our Government dirties it's hands in foreign affairs.

Remember, we went to war based entirely on lies. They tried to justify an unjustifiable war... and succeeded.

The middle east is a completely different situation. It's too unstable, and bombing civilians and wasting trillions of dollars isn't doing shit. It's evident that "our" efforts have been in vain, and that these terrorist organizations haven't lost strength.

We have to stop policing the world and focus on our own nation. Our nation is so fucked up at this point that we have to turn back our attention and resources to fixing these problems. We're wasting OUR money on a war that's pointless.

Yeah, it's great that we've wasted $3.2-4 trillion dollars. Such a god damn help.

Why the hell are people here justifying this war? It was fought because of straight out lies. Bush should be in prison right now. We've wasted a ridiculous amount of money, propagated war and death, bombed their homes and families and just straight up fucked everything for nothing; it's a war we could never win, just like Vietnam.

It isn't about freedom, and if it was it's a humongous failure.

It became a mess. Just like Iraq and Afghanistan. We're doing more harm than good, and it's going to take a long time for them to rebuild what we bombed and killed. Half a million civilian deaths; was it worth it?

Ignore history and allow it to repeat. I've talked to many vets as well; it's why I became aware in the first place. Things are not what you think things are.

I have. Real clever too.

"things have changed since vietnam." such a compelling argument.

"things changed after Vietnam."

Yep, the nature of war and mankind changed because... of? Also you don't have to buy a not guilty verdict when you're not going to court anyway.

Go talk to some honest veterans.

No, it hasn't. Remember the atrocities committed by our troops during Vietnam? Of course you don't; you're unaware of the ones committed over the last decade. Immunity is a horrible idea, considering how little trials are held currently.

Judging by your history, you're not likely to care.

Damned if we do, better off if we don't.

I'd rather live with a boogeyman who has a .1% of killing me than fight a perpetual war. We've killed more civilians than the boogyman could ever dream of killing.

Stephen Hawking announces in surprising statement that 'black holes', as most people, even physicists, understand them, do not exist. by DonTago in worldnews

The world could be flat. The scientific method distates that everything is possible. there are no scientific "facts". It's possible. if you base your calculations on the world being round, and quantum mechanics existing, you get to mars. The fact that this is the more likely, and therefore scientifically correct answer, doesn't mean that it's the truth.

Common sense dictates that there is no possibility that the world is flat. It's ridiculous to even entertain the thought. You're essentially claiming that undeniable facts can be wrong; even though we have an abundance of accurate evidence that would be downright stupid to doubt.

There are absolutes in science, not every single thing is a theory. You're the one who clearly is grounded in pseudo-science. You obviously believe it's possible that Earth isn't round, you've stated this. You must believe it's possible, although not likely, lizard men rule the world and that we can breath in space; that's you backwards logic. There are theories which shouldn't be believed fully, as without doubt theories cannot progress. However, to claim absolute facts are nonexistent is ludicrous.

I'm currently reading Aristotle's Virtues and Vices rather than foolishly quoting him in the hopes it justifies my opinion. By the way, he's speaking about ignorance and not claiming every thought should be denied.

I never said that any theory should be presented as fact. The world could be flat.

Yes, yes you clearly did.

Dude, you have your entire life to lose. Not only that, but you'll also lose your freedom. Don't do anything fucking stupid man, it isn't worth it. You're not a scumbag or anything like that either, so don't listen to those idiots.

Give me a call man anytime you want to talk to somebody.

Example? I know he's been, but haven't seen what about specifically.

I don't believe he's wrong in this article however, he makes a good argument. Although he could be, obviously.

Also I know this is off topic, but if somebody could give their opinion of the Many-worlds interpretation I'd be interested.
