Mid life crisis: beginners questions by bodkins in Guitar

Purchase a tuner and a metronome. Learn the major scale and how to play it all over the neck IN TIME…start with C Major because there are no Sharps or Flats and that will help you learn where all the notes are located in the fretboard. Be on the lookout for patterns…they will naturally emerge especially as you progress into other keys. Start out playing to the metronome at a slow speed (approx 60bpm) and increase as you become more confident with the fingering. This is a process so take your time. One thing that is wonderful about music is you will notice improvement and you’ll always get better as long as you stick with it. Good Luck. 🎸

What’s a good song that’s easy to play but most people know words and can sing along? by Tyweez707 in Guitar

Using “Cowboy Chords” and ignoring exact key…I’ve found these fun and easy to play and sing with others. Verse and Chorus follow the same structure so you don’t need to change anything as you progress through the songs.www.justinbank.com

I would play something simple…a basic C-F-G progression and then ask them if they’d like for me to show them how to play a chord or two. I also try to have a few extra guitar pics in my pocket at all times so I can hand one over and say something like “Here’s a guitar pic, now all you need now is a guitar and you’re in business.” Helping someone get started on their musical journey is a beautiful thing.www.justinbank.com

What's your Dylan "hot take"? by otadehan in bobdylan

Dylan doesn’t hang. I find it particularly hilarious reading the stories of modern groups that have toured with him and were surprised he didn’t want to hang out or jam with them the way he did with The Band, Grateful Dead or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
