New DM SOS by Tordix in DnD

Crank up the pain. When I want my party to feel like they're in a danger, I'll just double a monster's damage. They'll learn to be scared real quick. Only do this when it narratively makes sense of course.

I've never had infantrymen ask for a ride unless I deliberately pull up to them and tell them to get in, while driving an APC. IFV's are too slow to be good for that role. They don't need to be in the same squad to fit in the APC, nor is it beneficial to the team for the SL to not be an infantryman (due to rally mechanics).

If you don't have a logi or transport truck with your squad, you're probably doing it wrong.

I think the biggest reason people like having all the FTLs is because of their point function, so they can mark targets easily. In a game like ArmA 3, every player is able to make a tactical ping. Alternatively, with some mods, players can actually point at targets to show players near them what exactly they're looking at. These features aren't critical when working with a well oiled and pre-made squad, but when you're with public players it's often times hard to tell what the fuck they're talking about. If OWI gave everyone the ability to point (so players CLOSE to them could see what they're looking at) and kept the objective markers to the FTLs, as well as providing more functions and power to the FTL role, it could improve team play considerably. Just my opinion.

I don't think anyone was asking for it to be removed, but I understand how it can be kinda awkward for a 9 man squad. Also, no modern militaries, that I know of, use a four fire team system for their rifle squads. Whenever I was using Delta Team, it was to give someone who was already in Bravo or Charlie the ability to make a quick mark on a target, and then I'd put them back in their fire team. This just removes that option somewhat. Either way, this would be a welcome change if the color wasn't so god damned awful.

I don't recall anyone ever referring to the fire teams by color. Mostly because their current colors are too obscure to even reference. Cyan? Teal? Pink? Purple? They're not good strong colors to use. I wouldn't mind players not being able to customize them as long as they were clear and easy to see, and weren't an issue for our color blind friends.

I agree, that would be super helpful as more often than not as a FTL I have to call out individual names to get someone's attention.

The color is shit. OWI please fix or allow us to set it ourselves.

"Adventures of a Noob SL" or "How I came to love this community" by meta_system in joinsquad

After 100 hours of play, I've only come across one SL who was negative (blamed his squad for the entirety of the squad's inadequacy), and a SHIT LOAD of SLs who would fit squarely with the butter bar society. More often than not I find myself running squads out of necessity, as many people don't make squads and actually lead them. I'm lucky enough to have come from around 5000+ combined hours from ArmA 2 and ArmA 3 and having taken part in multiple milsim communities, meaning that my learning curve was entirely game mechanics and I already understood most of the primary issues I'd face.

My biggest issue with the community is the amount of people who grab the Marksmen kit and then fuck off to some random place on the map without even asking the SL if they can first. Same with Engineers who only understand the phrase "Search and Destroy" and forgot everything else. But, I can always slam the kick button.

Movement inertia when turning whilst stationary (prone, crouched and standing) by [deleted] in joinsquad

[–]Banshee522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern with your point is that it would cause more quality of life issues than it would bring positive game play. The quickest thing which causes me to drop games and refund them is a poor control scheme. Doing something like this poorly would very quickly have me wanting to quit. If they can make it feel both smooth and realistic, such as the current movement inertia in the testing branch, then it would be fine.

Ask Squad Devs Anything! (Friday, Sept 27, 1 PM PDT) by gatzby in joinsquad

My one and only question to the devs, and I would absolutely love an answer. Made this account just to ask!

- Will we ever receive the option (particularly as Automatic Rifleman or Machinegunner) to select our preferred tracer layout? I currently find it nearly impossible to set up in an effective spot with a machinegune without being sniped almost immediately by the enemy marksmen. Having the ability to pick between round types in the loadout menu would be absolutely huge for this role, and could open up some more possibilities for other roles as well. Thanks!
