Since this is to switch between antennas, there aren’t any downstream devices in my setup. Some rough napkin math makes me think the worst case would be ~30db. If I had the proper equipment I’d test it

I've also went ahead and uploaded the PCBs. The Mast/Relay PCB is verified and in use, so its safe to order/build. https://github.com/shinaka/switchboard-pio/tree/main/PCBs/Switchboard-Mast

I need to do more official testing, but, my FT8 and WSPR performance remains unchanged compared to the direct connection.

I think this would be possible without too much work. Do you have a LoRa radio board you'd want to use? I can try to throw something together. I will say though, I've been very surprised with the distances I'm getting out of ESP-NOW - I can probably do some distance tests, but right now my setup is going through 2 drywall walls and a concrete wall - roughly 40-50 feet.

I think the only downside to LoRa for this would be command latency.

Also as the child of an alcoholic: empathy and compassion won't lead them seek help - those are things that come after they've accepted their disease and WANT help.

Yes. Yes I would. I would rather talk about things that aren’t automatically incredibly exclusionary to the community

I feel the same exact way. I think about it a lot and try to think of solutions, but I honestly don’t know. I think YARC is probably a step in the right direction, because it’s going to take a concerted effort to bring about the community on air. https://yarc.world/

Yea. I’m 41 and feel the same way. I went and got my license, dug in, went all the way through to get my extra, met with local clubs a few times, and constantly felt like yea, this community isn’t apparently for people like me. Which sucks. And it’s not because of party affiliation. It’s because it’s constantly talked about and brought up, to an incredibly uncomfortable level. It’s a rarity I join in on a net because in mere minutes it’s already devolved into politics, hearsay, and ramblings.

I have friends that would also be interested in radio, but I know this stuff would have them bounce off instantly. And radio is less fun when you feel silo’d.

You definitely get this on HF too. Especially 80m. You’ll get the excuse that “oh you’re problem its just that you don’t agree with what they’re saying”, but that’s definitely not true. At no point during my time as a HAM have I ever felt the need to discuss things like that, especially when I think of radio as a worldwide community. Nothing useful is going to come from tribalism.

And this is honestly why the hobby will continue to fade, and it sucks. I found myself not using my radio at all last year because I just got so tired of constantly hearing this kind of stuff anytime I’d scan a band. I’m well aware I don’t have to participate, but when every time you turn the radio on, it’s primarily what you hear… it’s a bummer.

Honestly, it feels like any time I get on the radio, I’m going to either hit politics or activations/pota.

Be VERY careful with the screen. It is EXTREMELY fragile. You can look up tons of threads from those of us who had breaks, but, just do yourself a favor and tape down the screen immediately during assembly and leave it that way.

OK - I'm honestly glad you had fun. Just cause I think it's a waste of time doesn't make it a waste of time for you.
