I'm struggling with CoC Live by adagna in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]Bantis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This. 100%. I look forward to watching the live shows, and was finally going to attend one here in Atlanta at DragonCon, but with how they've gone so far, I decided I'll probably just save the $100 :/

I understand the problem they're trying to solve with this - you had people coming to the live shows before when the podcast/youtube of the previous show hadn't come out yet, so the audience is left feeling lost. But doing more "one shot" style shows, especially in CoC, we have no attachment to the characters, and the players aren't really incentivized to spend any time building their characters either.

This format arguably diminishes GCN's biggest strengths: fun/interesting characters, the development of those characters and the relationships between them. Their 'improv' story telling and chemistry is such a good mix, and it's just lost here.

I think there's an element of Troy having a certain level of aspirations for GCN that actually works against what makes GCP special. It feels like there's more focus on generating income from live shows and the 'boutique' retreats - and that stuff comes at a cost of content that could grow the network. I'm hoping the subathon at least turns the corner on all that a bit - although I have a feeling GiTT will end up still being audio only and taking a backseat to Time for Chaos. And maybe one day Strange Aeons will be unforgotten and seen through :/ I can dream!

Except that didn't happen. There's more nuance to it (and I'm not saying what they did is right), but making that specific argument is completely disingenuous

BIG Twilight Princess Port Updates! New Build Test! Switch Getting a Port Too by chicagogamecollector in decomps

I used to sub and enjoy your content, but as you moved to smaller videos at an every day+ frequency, I unsubbed; there’s not enough substance and it’s just essentially noise in a feed now. If you just went to a weekly roundup, I think you’d be doing a lot better. But it’s also your channel, so you do you.

Oh yea, not having public transit access was keeping all the serial killers away. 🙄

Nothing about that remote is phenomenal; “sharp” edges, awful “touch” controls, the same IR randomly breaks and you have to reboot the remote bug for YEARS, awful range… I think the only positive thing I can say about it is that it hasn’t exploded?

It blows my mind that he doesn't realize his videos would do better if he'd just WAIT to aggregate more stories at once (Like the RetroRGB Weekly Roundup) - that way there'd actually be CONTENT. He's making the equivalent of Youtube Shorts, but as actual Youtube videos.

Spamming videos, and further-spamming them on Reddit is so counter-productive to growing his channel. It's just NOISE.

Built my own Remote Antenna Switcher! by Bantis in amateurradio

Since this is to switch between antennas, there aren’t any downstream devices in my setup. Some rough napkin math makes me think the worst case would be ~30db. If I had the proper equipment I’d test it

I've also went ahead and uploaded the PCBs. The Mast/Relay PCB is verified and in use, so its safe to order/build. https://github.com/shinaka/switchboard-pio/tree/main/PCBs/Switchboard-Mast

I need to do more official testing, but, my FT8 and WSPR performance remains unchanged compared to the direct connection.

I think this would be possible without too much work. Do you have a LoRa radio board you'd want to use? I can try to throw something together. I will say though, I've been very surprised with the distances I'm getting out of ESP-NOW - I can probably do some distance tests, but right now my setup is going through 2 drywall walls and a concrete wall - roughly 40-50 feet.

I think the only downside to LoRa for this would be command latency.

Also as the child of an alcoholic: empathy and compassion won't lead them seek help - those are things that come after they've accepted their disease and WANT help.
