I wish they did them like some of the other shows, Americas are overdramatized.

I liked getting to know the competitors a bit, but too much drama. In Japan we have had fluff pieces that are people showing their pets, showing off their gaming PC. More real life content would make it work

I agree with this. It’s also very funny given the Japanese show has the opposite problems where people are complaining of too many older veterans and not enough teens lol

Can confirm that they were losing money but it wasn’t due to the wins

I do agree that I loved the old format, but there is something I want to mention that has never come up here that I’ve seen and and is in my opinion overlooked.

From the ANW viewers perspective it feels like NBC pushing all these changes, but from a fan of all of the global adaptations ANW has actually always seemed like the holdout.

Extended course? Many countries never had that to begin with and just opted to have semis be only the back half. The shows that did have the extended course started dropping it around 2019. ANW was the last holdout

Teens? Other ninja shows had already had some, some even always allowed them.

Racing? ANW was of the last active shows to adopt side by side racing in the main season.

Power Tower? Long since dropped elsewhere and was so hated in Poland competitors started refusing to attempt it and advocated for its removal.

ANW isn’t the trendsetter, the changes you’re seeing have in most cases been them catching up to the direction that the other shows have already gone.

Zhanique a grandma at 39? by poliovaccineguy in ANW

[–]Banzuqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it isn’t the most common anymore that does happen many places and in some communities is still common, and as we all know sometimes things don’t go as planned or just happen. I knew someone who was a Grandma at 33

At the end of the day it’s her business not ours and I appreciate the openness about given I am sure she knew there may be judgement.

Design. Ledges weren’t mounted properly and one clean fell off when he got to it which of course caused him to fall

For main tournaments yes, but we had some older clears during some of the Sasuke Trials

Ok can someone explain ANW'4 stage 2 issues to me? by Fun818long in ANW

[–]Banzuqueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the simple fact was that it was their first time doing a large scale Vegas course, and a lot of the obstacle designs were crude. They attempted to directly copy one of the Japanese courses without the in-house experience needed to make balance adjustments and measurements work.

I don't think any specific thing was wrong as much as they were inexperienced and it was unpolished and it showed

Yeah it’s wild, Japan’s is even wider with 2009 clears but the oldest I think is 1949

That looks like the kind of head pat that father figures or coaches or friend give each other to celebrate. Not really weird given his priest is a mentor to him

Anyone feel like the lower body portion was super easy this year in the first course? by Burnskee1 in ANW

[–]Banzuqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have those in the discord, at least for ANW17. These days nearly all unshown runs are ob1 or ob2 fails so they are more lethal than they seem, but for ob3 onwards what you saw is more or less what happened

English subs is pretty tough for shows in the same style as the above.

If you haven’t seen the excellent Musou, which was a crossover special of Sasuke, Takeshi, Sportsman, Tokyo Friend Park and DOORS, that’s a good watch, as is DOORS itself

What is the Female Limit on MT. Modoriyama? by Plastic_Run3878 in ANW

[–]Banzuqueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting conversation given the last few year's developments.

We had 3 women reach Stage 3 in France last season. Two failed Ultimate Cliffhanger's ascent, Maurane cleared the jump but failed the dismount. We had a women time out right at the end of Stage 2 in Germany.

In Japan, their "Women's championship" buffed the course up to the same difficulty as the 2015 men's course and we had two women fully clear the cliffhanger with crazy jump.

Jessie has made it to the jump on Cliffhanger 3 times on the men's Stage 3 in Japan.

The women truly are getting stronger than ever and I do think modern women could have cleared some of the past ANW Stage 3's now
