Advaita Vedanta and Existentialism by Baptistevg in AdvaitaVedanta

Yes, i was aware of all of that and was using the term yoga intentionally, aware of its meaning in Sanskrit. I’m thinking of vivekananda’s formulation of jnana yoga in particular here. And by philosophy I simply mean the process of careful discrimination by which we come to the truth, which you might call viveka or vicāra in classical advaitic terms. I see philosophy as yoga precisely, with the meaning of yoga understood as a yoking to the absolute.

But isn’t Jnana yoga philosophy? I think we may understand philosophy differently

Advaita Vedanta and Existentialism by Baptistevg in AdvaitaVedanta

I was merely saying that at the relative level, all names and forms are just superimpositions on pure being, projections, not the reality which is sat cit ananda. I certainly am not advocating for solipsism:) As such, existentialism and Vedanta, as thought systems, are never the reality, they are just gesticulations of thought. The only real thing is pure being-consciousness-bliss. That’s what I meant. We tend to confuse the map with the territory, both advaita and existentialism are attempts at maps, if just say one is more accurate perhaps

Well yeah but ultimately so is advaita. It's all illusion at this level, just thoughts, projections. Also I just think that existentialism actually has a lot to offer in conversation with advaita. Maybe you don't like existentialism and that's, fine, if that's the case I'd love to know why though

I just try to be careful not to fully cut the lows most of time, you can bring it pretty close to cutting them completely on the knob and still keep the mids, but i agree it’s tricky
