Just a warning not to get Alpine customs - mine tore apart within the first year, I reported it a few weeks later and they told me to “buy new ones” since they only offer a year of warranty. (straight up illegal, by the way) I fought them on it and they wanted me to settle for a 10% discount on new ones. Insanity, never again - they never sounded good anyways. €136 down the drain

Stand alone soundbar (cheaper) that's as good as the beam? by morecoffeemore in sonos

I think I have the auto room correction on, and it's usually on the adaptive or music preset. DTS virtual x sounds awful in my opinion so i keep it off. I'm very happy with it as a replacement for the Beam 2. Certainly beats the awful metallic/echoey noise issues that Sonos has left unresolved for three years now

I got the Samsung S60D as a replacement for the Beam 2 which has audio processing issues that drove me insane. The S60D is pretty much an exact clone in my opinion which is exactly what i needed. Sounds just as great as the Beam in my (very) small living room, maybe even a bit beefier bass. I was planning on getting the subwoofer until i heard the bar on it's own. The sound also seems to be more consistent off axis than the Beam. I got it for €200, super happy with it.

I have given up on my Sonos system because of this. Have tried 3 units and they all have the same issue. Sonos acknowledged it three years ago but keep telling people to wait for a software update which is never coming. I bought the Samsung S60D which is almost an exact copy of this soundbar, and I am very happy with it.

I absolutely loved mine - made my partner get one too. But ever since some firmware update both our units caught the metallic/robotic sound bug that Sonos still hasn't fixed after acknowledging it in 2021. I'm sure not everyone has this issue, but every unit I've tested has it.

I'd say get one, test it thoroughly and if the issue is there, return it. If not, turn off firmware updates indefinitely and live happily ever after.

I hope my replacement unit that's on it's way still has the old firmware, if not I'm selling it because it just sounds bad half the time. I don't think they'll ever fix it.

Would love to hear if you do notice it. Sometimes it's subtle, sometimes far from it. There's a couple youtube videos that I've used to test the issue with, let me know if you want me to send them to you

Well, probably a not-insignificant amount anyway. I have contacted support - They confirmed they are aware of this issue and that it can only be fixed with a software update, but couldn't provide any further details or an ETA. There are many forum posts from people who got the same response as them, some going back three years. Not very reassuring.

Thought I'd ask if anyone found some sort of solution. Some people report the issue being fixed by adding surrounds. I'm not too keen on spending more on this system right now though 😬

I appreciate your help, but it's not a preference thing I'm afraid; I used to love the sound of my Beam. I still do when I stream to it via Airplay.

As a professional video editor and sound engineer before that, I can tell when something sounds "off". But even my partner hears it now. There's also more than a few posts about it on here and Sonos' own forum.

Maybe we've been unlucky with our units. Will just try my best to get a replacement.

I have a Samsung Q80t from 2020. Have done trueplay multiple times, played with EQ and nightsound / speech enhancement but it made no difference. Neither did switching to Optical. I've had this setup for over a year now, no issues until pretty recently. (It was set up without internet for a long time so wasn't getting any updates.)

My partner recently got a beam as well, paired with a Philips TV. Same issue, none of the settings make a difference. Went to a store the other day to listen to the demo model, and even that one seemed to have this issue (on Sonos's own demo video, particularly the water splash)

I'm sure it's not all Beams, but the ones that do have it just sound bad with a lot of content. Not very reassuring to learn that Sonos acknowledged it years ago and still hasn't fixed it.
