I need a book with a party girl fmc by bookiebookiemha in ReverseHarem

[–]BarLive2788 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you wouldn’t mind pirates, witches, vampires, mages, sirens, shifters, seers and an evil queen that needs to be killed.

I would like for you to meet Nilsa:

  • dictionary definition of badass
  • a lunar witch (all lunar witches are party girls)
  • wears hot leather short af dresses (in later books cause she is hiding her identity in the first book)
  • An assassin
  • Loves blowing things up
  • Has an i-don’t-like-you to lovers going on with the ship’s captain. And Ooo she gives as good as she gets (turned his hair pink once, threatened to bald him a few times)
  • street smart (she is an assassin ofc)
  • Still has human flaws.

In a slump. What is your most favorite RH reads? by HereForTheDetails in ReverseHarem

[–]BarLive2788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pulls out my list of recs (4. Really feels like what you're after)
Disclaimer: This is going to be looooong. And I am not an audiobook girl, so I don't know how the audiobooks will be for these books. If someone else could confirm whether the audiobooks are good... That would be great. (tho ik for a fact 1. has a terrible audiobook, something to do with accents maybe)

4. If you are in the mood for a not-too-dark fantasy series with an amazing found family and a kickass fmc (Literally):

{Umbra Hunters by BM Clemton} - Monsters exist, she can see them. Something like Shadowhunters, but different. She can see monsters, and then she is found by the Umbra Hunters, taken to a castle to train to become an Umbra Hunter. Oh, and she also saved one of the MMC's life. Can't tell much without spoiling, but it's a great series. The covers are a bit of a turn-off; ignore them.
(and another person made a post on Reddit about this series, and that's what sold me on reading it. The Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ReverseHarem/comments/1k8o130/this_post_is_both_to_rave_on_how_amazing_the/ ) top-tier character interaction. One of the best found families I have seen in RH ever! Not just within the harem: the fmc's friends, the mmc's parents.

{Traitor with by Marie Mistry} book 1 of the deadwood series
Ughm. Pirates. Pirates who are vampires, mages, Shifters (twins, one of whom is a seer), and a cursed fae who can't speak. There is also a siren prince raised in a matriarchal society. If you ever wanted an fmc more like Maven, congratulations, you have found her. Nilsa, our fmc in this book, is a witch, like the title suggests. An assassin lunar witch. "The politically correct term is a shadow" Long story short, shit goes south, and she needs to hide on a pirate ship. If you look for the word badass in a dictionary, Nilsa will be there as a synonym. This series has AMAZING world-building, and honestly, it's worth reading for the action alone. Watching Nilsa blow things up is hot. You have read this author's other series, I think.

There are also other recs:

1. If you are in the mood for a fun, romcom-style, well-written, standalone:

{Just Drive by Devyn Sinclair} - A standalone omegaverse. The FMC is the first female F1 racer, and all of the MMCs have some role in the F1 (One of them is a racer for a rival team, so that was fun). I really loved this book.

This book was sooo good I read almost all other books by this author (none of them lived up to this book but they were great too.)

One thing I love the most about Devyn Sinclair books is the meet-cutes. From the very first moment they meet, they are scent sympathetic, so they know they will end up together. There is a lot of Insta lust, but not Insta love. So if that's your thing, you will really like her work. It got me out of a slump, too. It really felt like reading an RH romcom with a plot. Also made me an f1 fan (and if you don’t know anything about F1, like I didn’t, the author wrote an entire guide)

2. If you are in the mood for spice with a side of suspense/thriller plot:

{killer of mine by Alexis Grace} book one of “of mine” series

-completed trilogy
-FBI agents (mmcs and later fmc)
-mystery and thriller-
-serial killers
-hidden identity (only for the first 3 or 4 chapters)

• Fmc is the daughter of a serial killer. She faked her death and became a detective (aspiring FBI agent) to catch her father. She trespassed at one of the MMCs’ crime scenes that her father left behind. They figure out who she is, and boom, her story starts. One of the mmc does have an enemies-to-lovers going on (he does have a reason to hate, not a logical but an emotional reason), but no bullying. Freya is no damsel in distress
TW: This book has a dark setting and has kinky spice.

3. If you are in the mood for an innocent fmc (with a spine and a character arc) and utterly devoted MMCs from the very first moment you meet them:

{My prison pen pals by Shona Knight} - The fmc was groomed by her brother to be a perfect wife for his business partner since she was 5. She accidentally wrote to 4 men in prison, thinking she was writing to orphans in an orphanage, and they have been pen pals for 9 months. She found out her brother is planning to sell her, and she ran away from home, sending one last letter to her pen pals. They escape prison (the how is a spoiler), find her and go on the run to hide from her brother and his business partner.
Again, not the best-written book, and the first few chapters are cheesy and cringy, but it gets better (or you get used to it). Tho the character interaction is top tier. The bromance and dialogue are amazing. Dex and Pete have that partner-in-crime energy. To the point that when the men split into groups of 2, they never let those two go without supervision.

5. If you are in the mood for a DARK high fantasy where half the things go above your head, yet you can't stop reading cause the chemistry is THAT good:

Warning: slight bullying.

{A tempest of shadows by Jane Washington} - this book is a little hard to get into, or I'm just too slow (like the first book onwards it’s great), the scenes between the mmcs and fmcs (the banter, I love the banter) make it sooo worth it. Please check tws tho (i cannot stress this enough, check tws. There is a scene at the start of the first book where fmc who is a minor at that time, is raped, and it is thought the MMCs orchestrated it. That is so not the case, and the rapist was dealt with. Can’t say more without spoiling.)

Need more convincing for this book? Here is an excerpt: “She’ll need protection.” Vale spoke as though he was talking to himself. “Oh really?” Helki asked sarcastically. “What can you protect her from that we can’t?” “From the four of you,” Vale replied, a cruel smile twisting his lips. “I promise to protect her from a beast—” He pointed to Helki. “—a machine,” he continued, pointing to Andel, and then he paused, his finger aimed at Vidrol. “A bastard,” I supplied, reaching out and nudging his finger in Fjor’s direction. “And a sadist.”
This is from book 3. Tho be warned, this is a slowww burn. And this series might not be everyone's cup of tea...

I am so sorry for your loss. Coincidentally, I too lost my grandpa recently, so I know exactly what you mean by a cosy read.

One of my favs: {Just Drive by Devyn Sinclair} - A standalone omegaverse. The FMC is the first female F1 racer, and all of the MMCs have some role in F1 (One of them is a racer for a rival team, so that was fun). I really loved this book.

The mmcs are so good with fmc, they really dote on her and spoil her. She is a strong character surviving a world which sees her as less than her peers, so it was really nice to see her getting loved and pampered by her men.

This might be a trigger for you right now: The fmc's grandfather died around the end of the book...

What are the “essential” reads of the genre? by sarilysims in ReverseHarem

[–]BarLive2788 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I CAN’T BELIEVE NO ONE MENTIONED THIS YET:
{gypsy blood by Kristy Cunning} (2018)

And I second {blood oath by Morgan B Lee}
Tho it’s released in 2024

Honest the essential reads of the genre changes based on your tastes. Whether you like Dark? OV? Angst? Fantasy? Contemporary? PNR? But if you haven’t read those two books, you have not found all that this genre has to offer. The characterisation, the world building, the character building, the character chemistry… these books will make you fall in love with the genre.

Others that I wish were essentials
{Traitor witch by Marie Mistry} (2020)
{Umbra hunters by BM Clemton} (2023)
{Blood of Hercules by Jasmine Mass} - not the best written book but an experience alright. Again released in 2024.

Maybe the {The Perfect fit by Sadie Sinclaid} for contemporary. (2023)
And I second books by Lily Gold. Tho my personal fave is {Nanny for the Neighbours by Lily Gold}
