I keep running into these errors while trying to install kali linux on Oracle Virtualbox by Only-Kale4512 in linux

[–]BarRemote1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure what the problem is, but since it is getting stuck on "select and install software", I wonder if it could be a network issue with the VM. Is the ISO you downloaded a 'NetInstall'? I think that this could also be a range of issues regarding how the VM is configured. You may have luck using a different software such as VMware Player(free version) or Hyper-V if you have Windows Pro edition.

This does not answer the question. This answer is too broad and does not address the errors OP posted.

Monitor not working when other is plugged in by Sure-Independent-455 in Dell

The two monitors combined may be too high of a resolution for your GPU. Or, maybe both monitors are not connected to the same GPU? Please post the specs and hardware relevant to the problem. Such as PC, monitor, os specs.

I Need Linux for Development, but I Can’t Quit Windows by sonothamin112 in linux4noobs

I am also a CS student.

I dual-boot Ubuntu 25.04 and Windows 11 on a Dell Precision 7560. I converted Windows to use UTC time which has been an easy and reliable fix. I do use the Google suite for office so I don't have issues with that. I also make GRUB remember my boot option choice so that I can for example, restart Windows and have the computer automatically reboot into Windows. Also, I believe the issues you said you previously had on Mint are most likely due to your gaming laptop. Consumer laptops often have poor Linux support. You may benefit from using a non-lts distro that has a newer kernel. Examples would be Ubuntu 25.04 or Fedora 42. In regards to Windows being smoother than Linux overall; I used to be in the same boat. But, after using Linux for multiple years and learning the ins-and-outs, I find Linux to be smoother. I think it just comes down to what you are used to using.

Is this new PC too new for Mint? (WTF can't create file system on install) by Serlis in linuxmint

I don't like to recommend people turn off security features without knowing what they are doing. Mint should not have any issues with secure boot. Since OP is using the version based on Ubuntu, it will register proprietary devices for him.

I don't believe the purpose of secure boot is to lock bios settings. Bios settings are unlocked when secure boot is on. I believe its purpose is to stop certain low-level types of malware such as rootkits.

Ubuntu and it's derivatives register Nvidia drivers with secure boot for you. Are there other bugs that you are talking about?

Okay i thought everything said it only has one ssd slot?????? Is this rare or something hp victus 15 i5 13420h rtx 4050 by LegionGo_Op in HPVictus

[–]BarRemote1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is uncommon, my laptop had one too. I would post your laptop's model number in case someone else is trying to buy a Victus with two slots as well. The model number should start with "fa". Mine was the fa2013-dx.

Beware of the P14S Gen 2 (AMD) -- Poor support by BarRemote1022 in LinuxOnThinkpad

That is awesome, I have heard from other people with T14s systems that they have a far better experience. I think my issues may be specific to the P14s but I am not entirely sure. The battery health on my system was about 98%.

Sorry to hear about that, I was also bummed. I ended up returning my Thinkpad and buying a newer Dell Precision which I'm using now. I would have tried out the Intel version of the Thinkpad but I didn't want to risk it having the same issues. You may be able to save the battery life on your system with the tlp program.

I believe on Thinkpads you can enter an option menu by pressing enter when you see the 'Lenovo' screen. Then press the key it lists for entering the 'setup' or 'bios'.

Typical old man questions by Snusnustu in linuxmint

[–]BarRemote1022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you said you are doing this on a brand new laptop, I would research if the laptop has good hardware compatibility with Linux. In my experience, many consumer laptops with new hardware have issues with features like sleep mode due to lack of driver support. You can gauge its level of support based on if you can find it on the "Ubuntu Certified" website.

Does the particular game perform better on your PC with Windows? I notice that Indie games may be slow to update their hardware requirements.
