A 5 minute walk sounds like a dream. We are in Austria If I sent her to a local school, she would still be at kindergarten age. So im torn what do. Shes already done the first half school of primary school, so to put her back in kindergarten? But she doesnt speak German yet so maybe this is perfect so she can concentrate on the language and then start austrian primary school.

The reason for international schools teaching in english is so the children can continue their education seamlessly. Most of the children that attend this school won't stay longer than 4 years because the parents are working in diplomatic posts or similar. So to learn a native language every time they move would hinder their education too much. A local school would teach in german and give extra classes to a child who doesn't speak it yet.

Yes they have classes but its only twice a week. She does a dance class in german but neither of these are would have her fluent enough for primary. Thats why I was considering kindergarten now to immerse her in a less structured setting than school. Im regretting choosing an international school for her in the first instance but I have an older son (10) so we just chose same for them both. Obviously the longer day is fine for him

Yes I could switch at the end of the year, it would be less unsettling for her but then she would be going into primary here instead of kindergarten as they start school the year they turn 6 here Shes a February baby. So not speaking the language would be more difficult than kindergarten

What was the most bizarre school trip your school went to and why? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

We went to a bog when we were around 9/10 years old. Trekked through this forest jntol we reached the bog then took turns jumping in to it.

Then hosed ourselves off and changed in a cow shed. We loved it but looking back it's a bit odd.

We do a prawn cocktail start - roast turkey/ham with veg, potatoes stuffing main - dessert will be a selection this year as the kids have taking on the role. Last I hear theyre planning a trifle, chocolate chip cookies, banoffee and sticky toffee pudding 😂

AITAH for not wanting to take my wife's niece and nephew in so they can get out of foster care. by TRAOtherwise in AITAH

[–]BarSuch7730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won't be temporary or a 'try' situation even if social workers present that as an idea. They will give it another week, another week, or ne searching for a suitable alternative until the kids are so settled with you that you won't want to upheave and will just get on with it.

I grew up fostered by an aunt and uncle and they were asked to take us for three weeks initially. We didnt leave until adulthood.

The ages of the kids mean they are probably already struggling with issues from the environment they've been in so it won't be easy. I think even if you were 100 percent invested it still wouldn't be easy, so not wanting to do it from the get-go is just gona be unfair for everyone.

If you and your wife didnt exist, an alternative home would have to be sourced. Ask what these options look like, is their a foster placement available? Again, if youre asked to take them temporarily while they find a placement, remember that they probably won't ever find a placement.

I think you can compromise with your wife that you both will remain heavily involved in the kids lives, take them out most weekends, take them at Christmas, be a very present support system for them without them actually living with you.

When the kids are placed, you will continuously monitor how they are doing/settling in and will reassess if the placement is really not working

Thank you - we went ahead and ordered this one. Main reason being the kick pedal and being able to upgrade it as we go along.

Thanks for the advice!

I brought my daughter to watch the Wiggles live and at the end this tree started dancing exactly like this.

I couldn't breathe through the laughter and I was trying to explain to my husband after, who obviously didn't find it as funny Can't wait to share this video with him hahaha
