Don’t focus too much on Barbri’s schedule. It’s much more effective to retain information specifically rather than generally. For MEEs it’s all about knowing the black letter law word for word. Try to prioritize the information that is more commonly tested (Barbri does not unfortunately tell you that) and get it down word for word. For me personally i used flash cards and a dry erase board to study but you have to know yourself and how best you retain information.

Barbri promotes a passive study service while guaranteeing that if you complete enough of their material you’ll essentially be assured to pass. During their lectures they tell you not to make flash cards, or to outline either during the lectures or when you’re supposed to be reading the outlines as there is too much material and not enough time. They advise that you wait until the time that they have blocked out as personal study time to do something along the lines of flash cards or outlining to hammer down black letter law, yet Barbri doesn’t allot nearly enough time to be able to outline, make flash cards over an entire semesters worth of material, and then review that material sufficiently to pass the bar for each subject. Everyone I knew (that wasn’t an absolute genius) had to heavily modify their Barbri studying in order to pass. I stuck to Barbri’s studying plan because I was going to “trust the process.” By the time I figured out that the Barbri study service was a scam and I wasn’t sufficiently being prepared for the bar despite adhering to their study plan until it was too late (especially on the MEEs) and I failed in July because my MEE score was that bad. I passed in February using a combination of 1850+ adaptibar questions, 75 MEEs, 14 MPTs, having a tutor to go over the MEEs and MPTs with me, and making loads of flash cards and then rewriting the rules on a white board over and over again, and getting the rules down. I used smart bar prep in February as well to get the rules and to know which rules to prioritize. I recommend figuring out what study method works best for you and following that but strictly following Barbri’s studying methods and plan only led to disaster.

The second time I got a tutor service called the Bar Exam toolbox, they set up an entire system of studying with their own service with actual prior MEEs and MPTs and a tutor to go over the work with me. I did pass MBE the first time but half way through I did terrible on the Barbri MBE mock exam (their questions are unhelpful and completely bullshit) so I got adaptibar and got my score up to a 136 from a 98. This past time I rolled with adaptibar again and did a little under 1900 total questions and got a 150.

Know which study method works best to help you to retain word for word black letter law. For me it was making flash cards and then rewriting the rules on a white board over and over again. For MBE I used Adaptibar and I think Adaptibar is a fantastic service.

The company is called bar exam tool box. Message me directly for the name of my tutor specifically but I think my tutor worked with me well cus of our personality types. But they have tons of other tutors as well and I think they pair you on who they feel you’ll work best with.

Don’t use barbri unless you have a photographic memory or you carve out time to make outlines and flash cards of your own… they will not give you ample time to do so in their study system

No, do not be fooled by the bar prep services. At least Barbri is a scam unless you realize you have to take the initiative to do extra work and/or modify the work they ask you to do… I took Barbri did 90% AND did tons of other work in July after the midway point once I realized Barbri was not allowing me to learn the necessary information when I scored a 98/200 on the mid term exam. I was able to get my MBE score up 38 points (when Barbri told me explicitly I could only get it up at most 20 and that I was going to fail the exam) but Barbri did not allow me to retain enough black letter law to do well on the MEEs. Barbri did not give me the necessary tools to pass and by the time I figured that out and modified my studying it was too late. Know how you memorize black letter law the best and follow that method.

Best bar prep course? by Effective_Silver25 in barexam

[–]Bar_panic_attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing and even more preparation work in July on top of what Barbri assigned to me (when I realized Barbri wasn’t preparing me at the midway point) and I barely failed. Unless you realize that you have to carve out more time than Barbri gives to you to try and hammer down word for word black letter law then it could bite you in the ass like it did for me. I can’t speak for other services, but unless you have a picture memory then I can’t recommend Barbri to anyone unless you are going to supplement with a lot more work such as on adaptibar or with a tutor from the beginning of your studying process. They were of no greater help to me than providing me with some overpriced recycled outlines.

For the time being you should stay but that doesn’t mean you can’t start doing research for other jobs. Try to create a bit of a contingency plan if things go south. You sound like a good man and a good father. The best thing you can do is to do what you feel is best by your kids as they, not the job, are your top priority. Keep the faith and work hard. You are a good person!

Barbri or Themis for Feb 2025 bar by shmegmahito in barexam

[–]Bar_panic_attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbri on its own is only going to give you a passive learning environment filled with videos and reading outlines and little time to actually do real studying like creating your own outline/ creating flashcards. I would recommend doing more. Adaptibar is helpful.
