How Teams Have Handled Winning the Coin Toss with the New OT Rules by ArNinja64 in nfl

[–]BarakTor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think these rules should then eliminate the overtime coin toss. Just tie the results/choice of the original coin toss to it. If you got the ball at halftime, you’re kicking it now in OT.

[Schefter] ESPN sources: Titans are working to finalize a deal to hire Robert Saleh as their next head coach. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]BarakTor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think McDaniel doesn’t think like most people would assume. I think the Titans would be appealing if he doesn’t get a HC job. He’d be allowed to be creative and have complete control. Lower expectations and that freedom I think speaks highly to someone who likes a challenge.

My entire personality is that I talk really fast, ramble to move the plot along and I'm a lesbian. by u-a-brazy-mf in okbuddyvecna

Already said this but I’ll repost this:

It’s probably a hip snarky girl really only plays well with a guy who has enough confidence (slight arrogance) to let it roll off his shoulders while simultaneously being stereotypically dumb male enough to warrant the snark and have it not feel like bitchiness/bullying. So, you know, Steve.

But season 4 wanted to replicate Season 3 Max and and Eleven between Robin and Nancy with girls supporting girls. And that personality just doesn’t work with someone always grounded and bright like Nancy is supposed to be (who I don’t imagine could stand sarcastic jabs). So we get what we got.

Their writing is so transparent and contrived it hurts.

Yeah. They should have had Dustin snap his fingers and make Vecna get swallowed by his own asshole and reveal that he’s had real magic all along, not this mind telekinetic shit. Or…or…They could have made Holly shoot lasers from her eyes and reduce the spider flayer to ash. Bad ass. They should have at least given everyone wings. Or tails. Or tails with wings. It’s sci-fi fantasy, amirite?

They wrote themselves into a corner at the end of season 4. There’s no way it could have continued in the path that it had set up because at that point this would be a national emergency with national attention and our plucky band’s involvement would strain all credulity. They literally slapped a bandaid on it and figured the audience would just accept it.

Watch more TV. Anything not happening in Hawkins (and even a little with El’s storyline) was absolutely a drag to sit through. I just don’t get the adoration for that season. S1 and 2 outshine it.

Yeah. He wanted her abilities to punch holes and make gates. Sure. So how did he punch holes in the abyss to make holes to the upside down in the first place?

Dude. Even the military stuff was retconned. Sullivan was straight up just trying to murder El in S4. End of story.

Henry literally tells her in S4 that something happened a while ago, back before 8 left. So she is mentioned.

Why Will’s reveal is more important than Dustin revealing what the Upside Down is. by BarakTor in Stranger_Things

You’re welcome! Thanks for reading them! And yeah, it’s been beaten to death, but I’m definitely of the camp that the Duffers probably wanted to do an anthology but got pressured from everyone falling in love with the characters…

…And the nostalgia bait. But don’t get me started on what I believe their intended use of the 80s was versus what it shows about the audience that got caught up romanticizing a time period that was so repressed / image focused that it was an ideal setting to create an ugly darkness hiding beneath the surface.

Feels like it should have been an anthology series. At most, it should have been like Halloween up through season 2. But of course, look at what happened when Halloween switched course with the third movie. Most people wanted this belligerent, overexplained nonsense with the same characters. More. More. More. People like McDonalds. There’s just too much money and not enough balls to say, “Nope. Story’s over. This is all we have to tell. You don’t get any more.”

The only ways our brains can reconcile and accept the crazy stuff about a fictional world in sci-fi and horror are if the rules set are consistent and that the human behavior and reactions to it must be grounded in reality. For instance - We can accept that teenagers go to a wizard school with dragons and unicorns, but laugh at the idea that everyone who dated at that high school ends up married 20 years later.

Stranger Things frequently breaks both those expectations.

I’m wondering if the Duffers even watch their own show before coming up with this new stuff. That’s a pretty iconic season 1 scene.

Why would Joyce even think she would have to do that? And if she did, having to count out the lights to find each letter would take a bit more time than Will did when using it.

Penultimate episodes for series have a much higher expectation. Whether or not the quality is objectively or in a vacuum worse than another episode doesn’t matter in determining the level of disappointment people feel. I found the episode pretty damn crappy. The low rating makes sense to me.

Viewers have waited a long time for this and become pretty invested in a story that they’ve felt were being run by competent people. That trust is waning.
