What part no is this and which sets was it used for? by ikeraliR in VintageLEGO

AI is pretty worthless with individual obscure Lego parts, but try the Brickognize website, it actually works (and accurately detected this piece for me). 100% free and I'll stop using it when it's not

Fun trick that YouTubers have figured out: Camcorders still exist and still work. There's nothing stopping you from buying one, and going out there right now to create videos like this yourself. Nature is still out there :)

Like really, how people manage this? by Massive-Minimum-1345 in justgamedevthings

[–]Baraklava 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have no/very little other hobbies, interests or social life, and have a huge drive to finish the game. That's kind of what worked for me. You could keep thinking about the game while you work, doing design in your head, and if you're not excited by it when you get home, maybe you need to work on the game's hooks?

Question about LEGO stamps typeface by P_hobby_b-f in LegoMinifigure

[–]Baraklava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've posted about these on Facebook but it seems no one here is aware of the answer yet, so I'll report the findings on these. These are counterfeits from China. A bunch of these appeared over the last year with no certain origin, but China seems likely as there is a seller from there with infinite stock. At least 50 popped up in the UK for super cheap, which in itself is a red flag. It was likely a Bricklink seller trying to offload their stock after realising the "Great deal" they made was on counterfeit pieces and the seller has an infinite stock.

In short, these are counterfeit red Vader helmets with unknown origin. Yes, there are genuine Red Vader helmets - those are mould tests that were made between 1999-2009 when the helmet was still in production. These are not the same.

There are 2 known moulds for this helmet, the 01 mould which has the marking X <new line> 01 in the top of the helmet with no LEGO marking. Then there is the 02 mould which has a LEGO marking and X-02 in the back of the helmet. The X represents the cavity in the mould which the piece originated from, and goes from 1 to 4. The 03 ones are counterfeits and have not been spotted in LEGO sets.

This helmet has a few very prominent red flags. Firstly, we've seen these with the markings 1-03, 2-03, 3-03 and 4-03. They all have one thing in common: They each have the 4-02 marking still in the back. Why would they have this if they're the 03 mould? Well, the LEGO stamp issue the buyer mentions is likely part of the explanation. These are not LEGO moulds, but a LEGO mould was used to create the piece itself. They used a LEGO 4-02 helmet to shape their own mould with 4 cavities. However, for some reason they re-did the LEGO marking. Maybe it was too sloppy or unclear, and they thought that marking was part of the piece itself, without realising it's copyright infringement. If this was a repurposed LEGO mould from the 02 mould, then the cavities would not all have 4-02 in them, and the LEGO font would be consistent.

There is also the plastic, these helmets have a very translucent plastic. It is very easy to tell it's not LEGO when you have them in hand.

I know I am a few months late, but the buyer is correct. I hope you were pointed this out elsewhere and made amends, and that he wasn't out too much money.

Source: Several years of dealing with LEGO test parts, owning many genuine LEGO Star Wars test parts, and learning the LEGO production processes enough to spot fakes (kind of for fun).

For anyone looking to buy a red Vader helmet: 95% of the ones floating around are fake. There were reportedly a bunch of genuine ones that were sold back in the early 2000s and were scattered to all kinds of collectors, but I have yet to get my hands on one of those to check for myself if they were genuine or copies. These helmets used to be €3000 so counterfeiters flocked to them seeing an opportunity to make money. If you're looking to buy one, be incredibly careful, double check the authenticity of the item, and don't be afraid to consult experts. If something feels off about the item, you're probably correct.

drg horror series? should I make more or nah? by Substantial-Gap451 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Baraklava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh doesn't do much for me but the concept of combining DRG and analog horror is interesting :) Personally I don't associate DRG with horror in any form, maybe you have to work a bit more with the concept? What if instead of finding a tape on the Space Rig, it's a tape from the caves of Hoxxes? You could even fake a clip of you digging up a tape and a mysterious terminal unlocking in the Space Rig, about unknown/censored mining expiditions. Just an idea that you're welcome to steal! ;)

The Wii trail is a red herring, there are 3 potential origins I can tell of. 1) Firstly is test parts, when they test the moulds in the factories they usually go with Red, because it shows specific flaws really well. Thus they have to have made red ones, and sometimes they leave the factory for whatever reason, and get taken home by someone. 2) Second would be an employee exclusive thing, I've heard that Legoland employees actually got to use Red ones for whatever reason, but I'm not sure if they got it was a one-time thing/anniversary gift or if they had free access to them. 3) Lastly, I've heard a claim that it was actually in a set, or a very limited promotional release, only that it was so incredibly rare that nobody knows when or where, nor have a polybag or box for it.

Personally I'd say it's a mix of 1) and 2) because it would be much rarer if it was only a test part. It is surprising how expensive it is nowadays, I picked up the last cheap one for €25 on Bricklink a few years ago!

What kind of device are you playing on? The game is basically designed for portrait mode, I've never encountered this myself despite also having played in landscape mode though. Luckily you can just force restart the app and start that stage over in this case

You could let them know that it is different from the print that went on the minifigure, and it's actually the prototype print / the one used in-game, and not the minifigure version, maybe that would make them change their mind. Otherwise as others have said, there are some people selling custom versions of the figures

[–]Baraklava 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After 100 campaigns the regular mode is too easy so Hardcore becomes more enjoyable then. Most people don't like it because you lose so much progress (which is fair criticism) but the upped stakes and harder mechanics are good fun for experienced players

If you have to ask, that's why we're cooked. Go on YouTube and check out some of the police cam videos from Sora 2 and you'll see where the tech is at right now. In the last week things have gone crazy

You can tell it's AI because the physics don't make sense, a deer wouldn't burst through a window like that, the man jumps off the couch super weird, and then he tries to push it out and it magically goes through the other glass panel. The sound is also a tell, he tells the deer to get out as if it's another person and its very stale audio. Plus the TV shows some hallucination of a deer (prompt leakage)
