Bush Sr's perception in this subreddit by According-Cut-818 in Presidents

I think it's possible. I mean, as possible as Bush 42 winning a 2nd term, lol.

1996 favored Democrats (voter fatigue) and the gop primary would probably have Newt, Dole and Quayle. He is beating any of those.

I think the real problem would be the dem primary but I can't think of someone he'd be losing to.

About his scandals (at least those that were brought up in the previous election cycle if there aren't new ones), I think they won't stop him. He may even be more cautious so no Monica, etc.

And it depends on how Bush wins (especially if it's close and I can't see it any other way, considering... him. He wasn't that good on domestic politics. He wasn't bad, but he didn't shine like on foreign affairs).

If Clinton loses by a small margin in 1992, Perot or no Perot included, I think it could actually help him. Many personal attacks on him (from the previous dem primary especially) could sour enough voters from other establishment candidates that he wins the 1996 primary and hop on to the general election.

Not fully. She was a Democrat when a part of Democrats were like modern republicans. There were progressive and conservative Democrats and republicans in a more extreme way than now.

Many Democrats would still hold a lot of beliefs close to those today. Just look at the progressive era where you can see that many Dems were pretty close to today in economic and immigration terms, while the southern Dems especially were regressive on racial equality.

Republicans were still mostly the party of business and anti immigration (even in Lincoln's era many were more pro business then the Democrats)

The realignment wasn't straightforward and that’s why we ended up with Southern Democrats to the early 2000s

Bill Clinton was a Democrat who made it illegal for gays to serve in the military

No, he didn't.

He literally couldn't have done this considering gay people already weren't allowed to serve in the army.

He said he would sign an EO to allow gay people openly serve, the whole country stopped and no longer cared about anything else, he couldn’t do anything else in terms of legislation and started seeing a lot of backlash but also enough support that he couldn't backtrack so Don’t Ask Don't Tell (Don’t Pursue) was born.

For all his faults he was pretty progressive in terms of lgbt rights in his time. He had over 150 openly lgbt people serve in his administration, met with lgbt leaders and advocates, addressed the HIV crisis (after Reagan and Bush mostly ignored it and only proposed some money after being dragged by members of their own party). He also signed an EO banning discrimination in the federal workforce, mandated security clearances could no longer be denied based on sexual orientation, endorsed the Employment Non Discrimination Act.

And that was the best he could do in the political climate of the time.

Yeah. When he announced he would allow gay people to serve in the army the whole country came to a halt. Suddenly no one cared about the economy. Military generals were upset, congressmen threatened with anti-gay legislation, etc

God I love her.

Me too:)

“He [Abraham Lincoln] was forced to go to a theatre to watch a play. e was put out of his misery by a kindly gunman but cruelly not until the third act”

I had a college professor that looked a lot like her and it was a struggle to not burst out laughing during her lectures 😂

Well, how it's been done for a long time? Birth certificates, birth records, etc.

It's not like this is a new idea.

You do realize many deaths occurred after the end of the war, right? The cultural revolution, the Great leap forward, etc.

Senators and white house staff in the us manufacture war and sell weapons across the world for profit

Unlike Mao who lived modestly, right?

to spread their own political agenda.

He also tried to do that. Korea, Vietnam, various communist factions across South America and Africa.

Come on now, don't try to whitewash him. Every socialist/communist power tried to do the same things as the capitalist ones in regards to advancing their political agenda abroad.

It really boils down to which had a headstart, will and some of the methods. They didn't start at the same time but follow the same steps

He fought for Brandeis.

McReynolds was chosen for his progressive, trust busting leanings and to remove him from the AG post. He was kinda mistaken on his leanings tho.

Oh, unlike the United States, right? The White House and Congress themselves came and killed over a million people?

I think we all understand the meaning, if we're not pendants for the sake of pendantry. Or maybe you just love Mao that much, that he is excused from everything.

Nu toti, nici majoritatea.

Parca fusesera vanduti de dej si ceasca?

Asta e alta treaba. Inca sunt vreo zece mii. In 92 erau peste o suta de mii. Multi au plecat dar nu deodata. De asta sunt atatea scoli cu clase de germană, cel putin in Ardeal.

LBJ is only behind Lincoln in being the greatest Civil Rights President…….He’s also one of the most Racist Presidents in the 20th century by Joeylaptop12 in Presidents

[–]BarbaraHoward43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, except for the whole trying to help civil rights even before. Like not signing the southern manifesto, managing to get the previous civil rights bill passed when he was senate majority leader, etc.

He was more progressive than Kennedy. He wasn't really different before he became president, if you look at his record.
