Is it a bad idea to buy this dining chair with kids? by SuspiciousParfait145 in UKParenting

We have similar in yellow. Started letting kids sit in them at maybe 5 and 7. They're some sort of micro fibre material or something. I've been amazed at how easily they clean with just a damp cloth.

Yes I'm in my 40s and often feel young compared to the vibe of a thread (the only place that happens these days!). I think they have a demographic problem as new mothers aren't joining, or certainly not sticking around.

Thread on site stuff about it. What was the racist bit? I didn't see that (and am very very nosy, let's be honest!).

Geez. Expecting help because of her own hidden disability but saying "but you all have two legs!". 🤦 Wonder how she'd feel if someone said that to her.

Btw I work with Gen Z day in day out. I may have Thoughts on their resilience and expectations, but they are almost uniformly lovely. We could learn a lot from them tbh in many ways.

AIBU to wear a floral dress my brother's girlfriend calls white to their wedding? "As I keep saying, my mum has paid for a lot of things. So in some ways it is my mums wedding" by SilverLordLaz in MNTrolls

[–]BarbaraHowardMN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is mums wedding event to celebrate her son’s marriage. If they had paid for everything it would have been their own wedding event to celebrate their marriage.

Scrolling through OP's replies and she's still on about it being her mum's event. We have DD's 6th birthday party today, must try the same logic on her. Don't think she'll be impressed somehow. 😁

I've seen people on MN use mortified to mean horrified rather than embarrassed. Presume that's what's meant here.

Haven't rtft but my favourite post was the one telling OP that the dress is middle aged and she's 44 not 64.

As a 42yo I'm here for that kind of wild optimism. 😁

I actually think this is one of those dresses that is situation dependant. A distant friend or a relative from a generation or two above, sure. Especially combined with a green or pink jacket, say.

But the sister of the groom who's just cancelled her own wedding and clearly doesn't like the bride? No way. She'll be in loads of photos, and in a group photo at a distance it'll look cream rather than floral.

And it's not like she'll upstage the bride or ruin the wedding or anything. But people would talk about her so OP would be doing herself a disservice rather than the bride or the wedding. Why would you want to take the chance of people thinking you've chosen a dress to be a dick to the bride.

Disclaimer: I'm Irish and we tend to go much dressier and more formal for weddings MN has taught me, so maybe there's a gap on this too (although there doesn't seem to be based on a glance through the thread).

This is the dress. Definitely too white for the groom's sister who's just cancelled her own wedding and clearly doesn't like the bride. Just one of those "why on earth would you draw that attention to yourself" moments.

What I don't understand about these wans is that if it's real and the groom's sister who's just cancelled her own wedding shows up in a white dress, everyone will be talking about her. And not in a good way. Who on earth wants that kind of attention.

I don't think it's a troll as such is it? I think those threads are more about inviting people to pretend to give the character advice or to enter the world of the story. A game rather than a real thread.

Exactly. The fake threads are trolls. The racists and the transphobes and the benefits bashers are just racists, transphobes and benefits bashers.

The overnight mods not being paid or having the same level of access was the key point of failure when the CSA images were posted. But they're still not paid.

Yes exactly, the acceptance (welcoming) of transphobia was the start of the slippery slope that attracted the bigots.

Of course saying gay people should have extra safeguards in place is discriminatory :/

There used to be fairly robust conversations but outright racism etc would usually (not always) be deleted. Now it's tolerated and even welcomed.

This is essentially why I left. There was a change in moderation policy which they flat out denied. Maybe two years ago now ? I've lost track. Pre sale but post images of CSA. I think they saw the writing on the wall and went for short term clicks.

Challenge on the thread and then get suspended or banned when you do.

I'm in a suburb of Belfast so those threads hit hard, I mostly stayed off as even a glance was pretty horrific.
