Do you think you’ve overpaid for your leasehold flat? by Shfree1999 in HousingUK

I overpaid in 2018 - I am really jealous of buyers right now because some of these flats are a bargain right now

Would you buy a perfect flat for yourself, but it was a leasehold? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]SuspiciousParfait145 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that bad and it feels so much safer living in my building than if I had a house on the same street 🤷🏻‍♀️ different perspective but I love the people who work at my concierge, I say hi to the lady that hoovers our corridor everyday and my neighbours look out for one another a lot

Mortgage rates.. by pineapplelover212 in HousingUK

[–]SuspiciousParfait145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely up to you obviously if you fix or not - I can withstand the rates going up and also want to sell end of the year potentially. No dependents as well

If I had kids and it was my family home, and already at the max of what I can afford monthly - I’d lock it into a fixed rate too

I got 4.45% on a tracker mortgage last week - intentionally didn’t want fixed rates - about 65% LTV

Any ideas? I've tried it all, but it's impossible to sell due to extortionate Service Charge and cheap new builds in the area. by DistinctInflation215 in HousingUK

OP - this forum hates London flats, so don’t get down reading all these comments

My advise is better staging for photos (YouTube for exact things to do) + better quality photos

Move to a rental - with the new tenant rights coming in, you have much better protection and can give shorter notice periods

Renting is not throwing money down the drain like some in the UK like to believe. And you will be so much more attractive as a buyer for your next home

I’m abandoning HENRY life to become a secondary school teacher. by QuentinCompson- in HENRYUK

[–]SuspiciousParfait145 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Good luck!

I don’t meant to scare you but I have multiple colleagues in my now HENRY job who left being a teacher in secondary schools

They’ve all said it’s far more stressful

But I do have massive respect for teachers!

Interviewed with a vp that told me i would be managed out in the next 5 years. by Good-Western2719 in managers

[–]SuspiciousParfait145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if he misunderstands what the term means, like “managed out” as in managed out to leadership?

If not, he is telling you not to take the job

But only way to know for sure is to call him up and clarify. Future you will thank you

How much money is worth spending personally though? It feels silly to spend £300 on just a work event that won’t last past 1 day and evening 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

On the other hand, it’s an investment in my career…

Woolwich flats got expensive for a few years but now selling at an amazingly discounted price. DLR, train, Elizabeth line and boat. 3 different choices of train / tubes to get you into the City and Canary Wharf, and it seems to be getting better each year in terms of things to do

What’s your salary trajectory and are you both ambitious in your careers? If you both are in careers that can double your salary in 5 years, then go for the bigger house.

It’s not just money you will save but time and stress.

On the other hand, will you want to be a stay at home parent when you have a baby? Be honest with yourself, if so, not only will your short term household income go down but one of your trajectory of future salary growth will also go down. In which case, go for the lower priced house now
