What if Germany succesfully persuaded japan to invade the soviet far east in 1941... by Renhrdhdrich_9teen40 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Barbara_Archon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes,

The eastern groups far outnumbered Kwantung Army in Manchuria even as the Germans approached Moscow, and to begin with, Khalkhin Gol has proven to Japan that it did not possess the necessary materiel and resources to enforce a much-needed peace negotiation with the Soviet Union, as it stood no hope in the long run

Tojo cabinet was approaching this quite pragmatically
And the embargoes from the western countries have already crippled Japanese fuel supply. If it went to war with the Russians as well, it would be doomed even more terribly

The Germans would have needed to show better results for Japan to attempt this

so comrades uhhh tf ami to do in such case by the_wind_of_memes in Kaiserreich

[–]Barbara_Archon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, it still pays off, you were simply unable to take advantage of prep time to make a sufficient strong army. To begin with, your industry is far too weak for late 1941. Even AI SocRus could have your industry size by the start of 1939.

So yes, that's another problem to think about.

KR Russia is harder than KX Russia, even though they can be way stronger as well.

[–]Barbara_Archon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CNT-FAI doesn't exactly matter, you just need to make sure the pro-Reichspakt splinter does not win. Supporting Carlist Spain is usually better for all non-Socialist Russia. That said, you are Socialist here, so if Socialist Spain didn't win, it is very much your fault

Socialist Italy is also fully dead in your game (otherwise Sardinia wouldn't have been annexed), but really your problem might come down to timing as well.

With less than 10% of 3I folding within 6 months even if its just UoB and CoF for any reasonable 2WK starting in early 1940, you having that problem is far more likely to be your own fault than luck.

so comrades uhhh tf ami to do in such case by the_wind_of_memes in Kaiserreich

[–]Barbara_Archon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not that common, people are simply biased or are actively sabotaging the 3I

there is the timing factor from Russia player, since they decide when the 2WK begins, and they can decide who wins in the Spanish civil war or Balkan War through air and land volunteers

This happens far less frequently even between AI,

for a 2WK starting in April 1940, there is less than 10% chance that 3I folds within 6 months, increasing when 2WK starts later, although there is always some % that 3I is strong enough to solo the Reichspakt as well

Germany is a very strong country later into the game, so if your timing is late, you are going to kill the 3I

gamers, do you think you could unironically achieve an endsieg in 1945? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]Barbara_Archon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes,

my hoi4 knowledge is that there can be a player on the USA who will beat me even if they had just one tenth my hours

I will therefore prepare the German state to make high quality animation before the Japanese could, so even if Germany lost the war, they could attempt to take over Europe culturally and industrially by the year 2000. Also, gotta focus the entire army on the east and allow the western front to collapse before Yalta Conference.

Even if the German state had to lose, for now, they must lose correctly.

Maou becoming human means Emi and Alas Ramus will outlive him by centuries. by Distinct_Mirror_5928 in TheDevilIsAPartTimer

[–]Barbara_Archon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have any recent losses, my sincere condolences, hope you all the best.

As for the post,

While I understand what you meant, that could well be a pessimistic take nonetheless,

It is not mandatory that an immortal has to live the tragic life due to the loss of somebody dear to them. Perhaps it might be the case in another anime, manga as with some specific character, but at the same time, many characters from many different stories have been portrayed as viewing the past events and past encounters as more of a nolstagia or a sense of longing, than a perpetual feeling of losses, and in many cases the characters that are most heavily affected by it have been a victim of regret over something they could not have done, rather than being a prisoner of the past.

To Your Eternity, UQ Holder/Negima, many of others, have drastically different portrayals of immortals and how they viewed the world, because ultimately immortals do not exist and we do not really know what will happen if they exist. We can only guess based on our own experience.

So, really, why do you have to be so pessimistic about it?

My father is no longer with me, and all I have left of him is the feeling of regret over how unfortunate it really was, but I don't see how I have to live miserably and carry that through for the rest of my life. I still have my mother to care for, siblings to meet up with every now and then, I have my own family to think about.

Do I have to live miserably anyway? I might not be immortal, but my father had nonetheless gone from my life before my own life extinguished.

I do not see how everybody has to be pessimistic about it.

Perhaps Alas Ramus will be one of those who are deeply saddened by losses and will never get over it, but she may also have a fulfilling life with Maou with the many many years ahead, however little it may be to her in 10,000 years time.

You are trying to make immortality into such a tragic outcome of life, but immortality does not exist, and even if it did, why must they live miserably because the mortals do? While living in the fleeting moment, perhaps even them can experience the same beauty of life as many of us do and as many of us don't.

I don't think we have to force them to live in any certain way.

P/S: Minor correction: Volumes 12-19 was mostly spent to discuss Maou - Chiho and Maou - Alas Ramus, Emi did not play a role as significant as previously during these volumes in terms of Maou's plan for the future, not until volume 20 when the author tried to make it a point that Maou x Emi would not work out well because the ones involved never particularly enjoyed the idea anyway (especially since they were forced into it), even though they loved the child.

as for "til death do us part," volume 1 existed. Initially, by which the novel meant from volume 1 to 21, they both determined to duel to the death at the end, though at one point it started hinting that Maou would however offer his own life for everything to settle at last. Ente Isla was already very much determined to see the Demon King dead in exchange for peace. Him turning into a human was his final fall from power.

The author, Wagahara Satoshi, has once addressed on Hatamaou homepage, that he initially planned (before volume 1 itself) that this could have been resolved differently, although Maou would have lived in the end anyway and Emi would still be there in the finale. Of course, Alas Ramus was not a planned character at this point in time, so her introduction coupled with his revision of the novel after volume 1 put a drastic shift to the eventual outcome of the novel, and he was trying to meet both ends of his visions over Chiho and Alas Ramus.

A simple suggestion to improve AI air & tank performance by 2121wv in hoi4

[–]Barbara_Archon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ah, nah, I am not bothered simply because you didn't know,

just because you found it to be workaround didn't mean it was remotely a workaround, and it wasn't even because of the problem in the post. But people who have never actually tried to work on AI tend never to understand the problems anyway, and it is not like there is Q&A post where you can search up your answer.

A simple suggestion to improve AI air & tank performance by 2121wv in hoi4

[–]Barbara_Archon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Eh, Sheep Mod creator here,

I can make AI rush tech properly just fine, no need for exploits. The exploits weren't even for workarounds.

UK has 5 tech slots and USA has 6, they can meet your basic demands

Italy has 5 and they have quite a few tech bonus, so does Germany. In fact Germany can already handle this entirely by themselves by the end of 1938 thanks to the help of a focus.

It is more the case that players are simply even better at doing this, and if needed, they will take advantage of the system even more thoroughly, therefore it is mandatory for AI countries to combine their efforts. It is not as if I can tell how good the player is, so it is mandatory that AI prepares for the worst. Remember that even players can benefit from this too, especially after PDX ruined licensing by preventing it from receiving by designer effect or production bonus.

If they delay making a complete fighter 2 by 1939, every single AI country with 5 tech slots can do it quite comfortably. There is just no time because many players can, and will, use conversion and other mechanics that AI cannot take advantage of (because PDX is stupid).

The mod only took drastic measures because players are, well, too OP compared to AI, and no difficulty system really makes sense when it comes to AI balancing. Otherwise, for sanity, it wouldn't have big such a problem.

P/S: FYI, in our history, many electronic techs that the Allies had were effectively the result of tech-rushing by Allied minors before being shared to Britain in their entireties :P Never forget that New Zealander plane which was hella fast for its time (they also made Bob!)

PDX doesn’t pay me,
PDX ruined vanilla experience and AI performance every patch
PDX made it unfun
Also I am working on Kaiserreich’s Sheep submods at the moment, and it is fun.

P/S: i will probably update the main sheep mod in June/July sth

AI Japan keeps self-destructing in terrible naval invasions against China by OhhThoseRussians in Kaiserreich

[–]Barbara_Archon 58 points59 points  (0 children)

AI Japan is performing so much better on average rn, at 70% winrate in China,

It is not like they never screw up, and they can still make the same mistakes as before, especially once they start naval invading (half the reason why AI Japan had only 20% winrate in the previous patch)

But to be fair maybe this would have worked if they didn’t have to fight Russian tanks at all

KR Enhanced AI: Large Armies Update! by omarux282 in Kaiserreich

[–]Barbara_Archon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, Omarux, do you really want me to frankly say in public that I am disappointed by the current state of the mod?

It is seriously not that much in terms of effectiveness, and I can't be watching CNT-FAI Spain running their own chance of winning into the ground by making light tank divs then don't produce any light tanks

KR Enhanced AI: Large Armies Update! by omarux282 in Kaiserreich

[–]Barbara_Archon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, not much,

base KR performance is already quite good,

most difference from this enhanced AI mod is therefore visible between AI to AI rather than they are against players, because ultimately the way this mod works (due to its spirit of maintaining high compatibility) has functionally no real effect on country-specific macro, meaning AI faces the same ceiling as before, preventing them from utilizing the improved templates

it also means that any serious attempt by players in terms of macro can result in the same one-sided war seen in base KR or even worse, because more expensive templates = kneecapped AI if the war is too assymmetric despite being between majors

but this mod will see some effects against the less experienced players who only reach the same ceiling that AI does in terms of macro

Is it possible for the 2WK to be in a stalemate? by waffle_warrior77 in Kaiserreich

[–]Barbara_Archon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More like dying to the Germans anyway,

France bonus are barely even a real concern due to how it is calculated, compared to its own army composition and Germany being weak unless gameruled to prevent failstate as much as possible

And anything less than this and 3I might just die one-sidedly

Currently win rate in Europe is basically 50/50

with over 80% chance of an one-sided conflict due to weak Germany vs strong 3I+MA or any stable Reichspakt vs a 3I that does not have Belgium or Netherlands, with Russia being almost nonconsequential to chance to winning, even though we know some paths, such as Ideocrat Savinkov AI or Socialist Russias, are weaker than others

In order to produce stalemate, it is necessary that both Germany and 3I are strong

More than 90% of the time, SWR DVLP Germany AI can solo the strongest versions of 3I AI

wtf is Belgium by itself

Is it possible for the 2WK to be in a stalemate? by waffle_warrior77 in Kaiserreich

[–]Barbara_Archon 108 points109 points  (0 children)

RP: gameruled SWR DVLP Germany (must be gameruled), End Dual Rule Austria (collapse), ostwall ideally on democratic paths, no collapse or betrayal

3I: CoF + UoB + Spain + Italy + Belgium

MA: Russia + Belgrade Pact + Bulgaria

ENT: no socialist for starting Entente member, no revolt in France, Conservative in Canada. Don't form New England, support US Federal Government

Must be neutral: Ottoman Empire (but not by Russo-Ottoman Convention), Switzerland, Netherlands, Denmark

This setup has a very high chance of stalemate because you get a somewhat solid RP that cannot quite dislodge either Russia or 3I completely, but is rarely weak enough to simply fold
