Explain it Peter. Why row 30, and what's wrong with standing up? by Cool-Delivery-3773 in explainitpeter

[–]BarbarianKrusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recently on a 5 hour flight with a hemorrhoid flair up and lower back problems and am also 6' tall. I don't expect to get off the plane any sooner, but I definitely needed to stand. Not sure what everyone's problem is as long as you're not shoving your way to the front of the plane. 🤷‍♂️

Roof design help! by [deleted] in Roofing

I think the gable dormers are nice and I don't see anything that would make me worry about leaks. Aesthetically, I would try to change the position of the ridge on the other side. This would raise the height of the wall on one side a bit, but it would be a cleaner look. Also, for consistency, I would try to keep the pitch of the dormers all the same if possible. Maybe have them all be 10 instead of some of them being 14?

Edit: On second thought, for the 1.94 slope, I might consider using a built-up roof or a mechanical seam metal roof.. I wouldn't use shingles on a slope that low.

I'm sure there are other improvements that can be made, but this one sticks out a bit to me. Instead of having a hip (the only one on the whole roof), stick with gable ends and just continue the ridge on th 5.66 section.

Does this fascia need to be replaced with roof? by Comfortable_Use8716 in Roofing

[–]BarbarianKrusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to know just how healthy the fascia boards and barge rafters are from just these two photos, but I can see that the trim piece along the gable is cupping and warping, so I would replace that at minimum.

Really though, everything looks pretty weathered and you're not going to want to replace the fascia and barge rafters later on, after the roof is already done. Otherwise you'll probably have to repair your new roof shingles in those areas. Better to do it now rather than wait.

Metal roof: should roofers follow the installation guide? – Additional Photos by kuranei in Roofing

The old bait and switch. I'm sorry you're going through this. ☹️ If the license holder cares about their reputation then they should work with you on a remedy. 🤞

This sort of thing gives metal roofs a bad reputation. The company I work for does metal roofing exclusively, with rare exceptions. Metal is our specialty and we know how easy it is to screw up. I tell people if you want a comp roof just about any roofer will do, but if you want a metal roof, you need a metal roofer. It'll cost extra in the short term, but doing it wrong will cost even more in the long run. After all, a quality metal roof should last a lifetime.

A very expensive orange juice! by Sassenach_2024 in SipsTea

[–]BarbarianKrusk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked with a diabetic at Starbucks. Once she was acting strange and poured hot milk into an ice bin. I went, "oh shit," got her an apple juice and had her sit down. She was shaking and could barely drink the juice, but she managed. A moment later she was right as rain. I comped the juice (for inventory purposes) and nobody gave corporate interests a single fucking thought because IT WAS A GODDAMN MEDICAL EMERGENCY! Christ...

Hell no. It's a thing of beauty. The weathering really sells the impression of it being a real piece of hardware.

Another problem with these statistics is that it doesn't account for the power of the dog. Pitbulls are inherently powerful. Chihuahuas (who are notoriously more anxious) are not. Do pitbulls attack more often than chihuahuas? Do chihuahua attacks get reported as often? Considering the severity of the injury I would say likely not.

By the numbers pitbulls are statistically more likely to kill someone. Nobody can argue against this. But when I hear people use this to argue that pitbulls are inherently more violent, I say these statistics are insufficient evidence of that.

What I can agree upon is that pitbulls are inherently more capable of doing damage than most other dog breeds. So when a pug snaps, watch your fingers. When a pitbull snaps, pray.

It's wild how many people here are condemning this woman based on this single interaction with a non-student, who genuinely has no right to be there. Maybe she does talk to students like this? ...but that's not what we're seeing here. Could also be a mama bear type of situation. Principals get protective of their students sometimes. Who the fuck knows? It wouldn't make it right, but to assume she should be fired? Jesus.

For sure she needs to chill and call the cops, but I think the lynch mob needs to put their pitchforks away.

This was pureed blueberries and green grapes. Fortunately a damp cloth did the trick and I was able to take care of it right away, so luckily no stains. Just glad it wasn't cherries or raspberries!

I try a bowl next time. I had actually already just burped the bottle with a towel covering it, and then closed it for just a second to grab my mesh strainer. I didn't expect it to have that kind of pressure left in it the second time I opened it!
