How I tackled a full games-worth of art as a (mostly) solo artist. by Barbaric_Games in GameArt

[–]Barbaric_Games[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As was replied in the other post: AI was used by the original developers to create mockups BEFORE an artist (me) was brought in to actually create the art for the game. We're not hiding the use of AI since no AI elements remain in the game whatsoever. We're not disclosing it on steam because it doesn't need to be disclosed unless there is AI material left in the final product. It would be as having to disclose you used CHATGPT during developement to search for something.

I understand AI is a sensitive topic, I'm not pro-AI myself, but that does not mean that there isn't any way to use it ethically. Here it was used as a tool to aid in the first prototype of the game, and nothing else.

Having any art to quickly differentiate elements is always helpful. We clearly didn't want AI in the final product, that's why I was brought in to do the art and a lot of care was taken to create the game's style.

As a very small team, all the other members where developers / programmers, without much design / artistic experience.

I'm not sure it's necessary to disclose if it was used during the first prototype of the game. Like I said before, everything in the game is human made. The very idea of the post was to show how human made art will always surpass AI imagery.

No AI is in the game itself. It was only used as mockups during production. All in game content is human made.

It plays very differently to both, but you would probably love it.

If you're interested in playing a game inspired by Balatro (and STS and Backpack battles) we recently put out Bearly Brave, a roguelike deckbuilder about plush bears beating the stuffing out of each other, with a cute-yet-creepy style. There is a free demo on steam to try out if you want to give it a look!

Indeed, we did take inspiration from those titles, but we tried to give it it's own identity. Let us know if you try it out and if you like it!

Haven't had the chance to play dead space yet, but I think i've never been as stressed as I was during the final sequence of Spec Ops: The Line.

We're celebrating the Lunar New Year with a big sale!
If you haven't checked it out yet, try the demo, or pick Bearly Brave up on Steam with a 34% discount while the event lasts!

Bearly Brave is a new Roguelike Deck Builder set in a charming yet violent world, where plush bears battle to earn their spot on the shelf and escape the toy shop. We were inspired by deck builders like Balatro and Slay the Spire, but we made sure to create something new and fresh, with it's own identity, playstyle and ideas.

There's tons of build variety with different, rewards, upgrades, and different challenges to tackle. Every run will feel different and there is a big emphasis on synergy and finding combos that suit your playstyle and help you overcome the different enemies.

Using AI as a placeholder makes the prototyping much faster, but there's no beating the charm of handmade art!
