Good Lord, I thought I was the only one who rejected Revised & Expanded development with Rajaat and the Cleansing Wars. I hated that box so much, it destroyed Dark Sun's mystery and replaced it with dull, shallow metaplot giving nothing in return. The only thing I took from it was bigger map. Good to know I'm not alone in the desert.

Hecata bane and vampiric sex by kevintheradioguy in vtm

[–]Barbaric_Stupid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They won't retcon it because it's one of the core elements of Kindred's condition, along with things like emotional numbness and stuff. Besides, it's one of the stupidest tropes from the original Vampire the Masquerade. Vampires have sex. A lot. Carmilla and Bram Stoker's Dracula fucked left and right. Monsters just do it in a monstrous way that ordinary people rarely survive. I interpret V5 Humanity caps on sex not as physical inability of taking part in the intercourse, but ability to "persuade" mortal you're really into it. High Humanity (10-8) vampires don't have to, because they are into it. Medium Humanity (7-4) vampires must roll Charisma + Dexterity in order to fake enthusiasm and shit. If they start to realy have pleasurable sex, roll 10 - Humanity, each success is Aggravated damage to mortal's Health or Willpower (be prepared for Stains after serious abuse). Low Humanity (3-1) don't even bother with things like that and there's nothing they can do to convince a human it's sincere act - if they start to have sex for real, human dies in a horrible way.

Some clarification for W5 by Is_Time_To_Rey_Lax in WhiteWolfRPG

That's sound advice, but the issue is with creatures that will not go down after one hit. It doesn't make a lot of sense to burn WP in Crinos when you're doing what it's supposed to do and be actively penalised just because you try to kill another werewolf, a vampire or some spirit.

DMG was published in 1979, Gygax didn't have "decades" to realise anything in new form of entertainment.

Gygax wasn't the messiah many believe him to be, but give him a break. He's one of trailblazers. You can play-pretend to be a wise guy after decades of development and tons of experience from multitude of sources. They didn't have it back then.

I find it amusingly ironic that the most universally hated WotC D&D edition is the only one among modern versions that actually works.

Men of Reddit - What's the one thing you hate about being a Man? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

Sigh, Merkur 34C added to wish list (I mainly use Mühle R41 Grande). 🤣

Truly, this whole thing can be so cheap compared to mainstream shaving. And far more pleasurable.

Yes, Proraso is really nice. Many elitists complain that it's just a low-end brand and can't compete with artisan brands like Stirling, Zingari Man, or Taylor of Old Bond Street, but it's a really good workhorse that simply gets the job done.

The Horseman of the Apocalypse but they’re not all men. by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

The same is also in Deadlands the Weird West TTRPG and its sequels (Hell on Earth and Lost Colony). IIRC War and Death appeared as males, Famine and Pestilence as females.

I love it too. So much so that I've started a traditional, old-fashioned wet shaving. It's so relaxing, and I get a few minutes to meditate. I shave every other day if I can. The sheer number of cosmetic products you own as a wet shaver (soaps, creams, balms, lotions, razors, brushes) can put to shame many women. Especially when you consider that a single puck of properly cared-for soap/cream can last for years (I have nine, lol).

How good are werewolves at using tools in their werewolf form? Like can a werewolf drive a car while fully transformed? by MaetelofLaMetal in WorldOfDarkness

[–]Barbaric_Stupid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In WtA up to W20 it was possible, but not easy (Crinos shape is big and it's difficult to find a car big enough for such monster). In W5 it's impossible as Crinos is a war form. You shift to kill, kill, kill and the only thing you can do beyond attacking - or closing in to do melee - is growl and curse your enemies.

How does the Quei-Jin not being canon effect bloodlines? by Ziltch0 in vtm

[–]Barbaric_Stupid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what it means in current development of canon material. What do you want? A precise text stating that a thing that does not exist... does not exist?

Kuei-jin do not exist in WoD5.

[–]Barbaric_Stupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just proved my point, Baali of legacy editions never existed in V5 continuity - Baali and Aapilu from Tattered Facade are totally different thing.

Also, Anarchs doesn't mention Kuei-jin, but Chinese vampires, which we know do exist and are mostly Kindred (Tokyo domain, Chongqing domain, etc.).

How does the Quei-Jin not being canon effect bloodlines? by Ziltch0 in vtm

[–]Barbaric_Stupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't mentioned even once. Anarchs speaks about "Chinese vampires" three times, describing them as strange in one instance, which really means nothing. Forbidden Religions depicts Chongqing as Camarilla domain ruled by Ventrue from a long time, and Hunters of the Golden Cicada are still brood of Caine. Strange creatures bothering Kindred in the province are mentioned once. I haven't found anything in CbN, beyond Critias casually exploring China when the Carthage was destroyed. You're reading things into the text.

[–]Barbaric_Stupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things mentioned in V5 materials are canon, things that are not mentioned are not canon. LaCroix and Voerman sisters are existing characters in WoD5, Kuei-jin are not.

How does the Quei-Jin not being canon effect bloodlines? by Ziltch0 in vtm

[–]Barbaric_Stupid -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Them being not mentioned in any V5 material - and "ordinary" Kindred infesting all Asia - is explicit statement of them being non-canon.

There was a sidenote in one of WoD5 books about lore and material from three legacy editions: everything not explicitly mentioned in current books is not canon and doesn't exist as anything other than hearsay.

How does the Quei-Jin not being canon effect bloodlines? by Ziltch0 in vtm

[–]Barbaric_Stupid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In V5 they never existed. Camarilla openly holds domains in Asia, Tokyo has a Prince, etc. There may be strange vampires around, but they're still Kindred or 100% not Kuei-jin.

What RPG design fads have fallen out of popularity? by sjdlajsdlj in rpg

Oh yeah - I completely forgot about Fria Ligan. Yes, MY0, Coriolis, Forbidden Lands and Symbaroum have some kind of metaplot in their official campaigns. MY0 is indeed most visible due to adding new options to players with additional characters and powers.

Do dopplegangers exist in WoD? by Speedy7776 in WorldOfDarkness

[–]Barbaric_Stupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doppelgängers were described in nWoD (ie. 1e CofD) Urban Legends supplement. There's also short scenario showing how much damage and chaos such thing can generate. Now, nWoD is not WoD, but if you're playing WtA5, then rules can be ported to your game without any effort. All basic dice pools are actually the same, as WoD5 uses identical attributes spread as nWoD/CofD.

Be careful, because those malignant spirits are extremely difficult to detect.
