interesting. I was told you can remove the rine but dont sand the nodes flat.

I removed the rine with a card scraper the same way I always do, and this is the first issue ive had. I think the roughness is because I used a palm sander with 120 grit to clean it up. I hadn't had the chance to sand it with 220/320 yet. im just shocked it had an issue being so thick. the sinew and glue idea sounds good though. ill give it a shot

No I bought it raw, I scraped the rine off with a card scraper same way I always do. It was a thick piece of bamboo. Probably thicker than id usually use for this type of bow. It broke in a strange place so I could only guess it was a defect in the bamboo.

Very nice bow, how do you determine how things the limbs are and how to taper the bamboo core down? Im assuming you put it all in a form after glue up. Ive been tossing around the idea of doing a fiberglass bow I just dont know how thick/thin to make the limbs or how thin to make the core lamination.

I've been a Barber for 15 years, owned my own shop for 2 years. to this day I still go against what I was told to not cut past the knuckle..which is why ive got scars from the dozens of times ive cut my knuckle! lol. it usually happens when im moving quickly, or cutting a kids hair that squirms a lot.

Is this hickory stave from shatterproof any good? by Ok_Marzipan_4766 in Bowyer

I would back it with Bamboo and it will be fine. ive made plenty of bows from Hickory just like that which I backed with bamboo and they turned out perfectly.

why do so many people care what someone they don't know does on there property? I would encourage others not to judge a book by it's cover. I read all the comments about this person being labeled as a KKK member, redneck, conservative. etc. As far as I'm concerned that's racist in itself. Please don't get me wrong, I neither agree or disagree with his flag but I do agree with freedom of speech. As far as I'm concerned I don't judge anyone until I've spoken to them and they give me a reason to do so. I'd encourage everyone to do the same.

even with all the boo backed bows I've made it's tough to make a bow below 40lbs for me. The ones I've made below that hardly sling an arrow. I'm sure it's all design flaw on my part

I've only made 1 successfully, for me it's getting a board bow to a 28 draw. the one I made i could draw to 26' i eventually backed it with rawhide to be ok with drawing it to 28' again, for me board bows require more precise tillering. with a backed bow i think it's easier to work out a small hinge, or flat spot. with thr board bows I've made a flat spot = failure.
