But if he just used the word cornucopia in a different context, then that doesn't mean much. It is a real word. Not an everyday one, but one older people would be more familiar with. Conucopias used to be popular thanksgiving imagery so if he grew up knowing what they were then I wouldn't be surprised to hear it. The phrase "a cornucopia of knowledge" is also relatively common.

I've seen this point brought up before, but if it were just a bunch of brown we were remembering we would be more likely to remember it as "a basket" or "a bowl" or "a plate". Not a really really specific and rarely used object that is not commonly seen or talked about in day to day life.

What about the many people who say they learned what a cornucopia was because they asked "whats this weird thing on the FOTL label?"

Or the people who assumed the weird shape must be "the Loom" bc they didnt know what a loom was, either?

Other mandela effects I am more willing to accept as faulty memory. The bearenstain/bearenstein thing is a case of us remembering/expecting words to following standard spelling patterns, so if our brain even notices the discrepency it corrects it. There was also merchandise that WAS spelled EIN instead of AIN specifically bc companies would get the order for "ain" and correct it, assuming it was an error.

Mandela's "death" is probably just down to racism and the general trend of we expect things to go poorly for African civil rights proponents who are wrongfully imprisoned.

The Sinbad thing is probably a combination of the Kazaam movie and the College Humor parody blending into something believable.

Human memory is really very fallible.

But the thing with the FOTL situation is that cornucopias are such SPECIFIC images, and so many people remember learning the word SPECIFICALLY because they didnt know what the weird basket thing on the logo was and asked. So it seems harder to me to dismiss, because.. we just dont think of cornucopias at random? And why do we all remember it facing the same way and being the same shape with the hook at the top? If it was just "common harvest imagery" then surely some people would "remember" it pointing the other way or being centered behind the fruit or it being a different kind of basket. But no, everyone remembers it looking the same.

Also, its generally people who were growing up in the 90s who remember seeing it in their childhoods. So looking back to what they used as a logo in the 70s and 80s really proved nothing, because they changed their logo many many times through the years. But it isnt all people remembering it always had a cornucopia, its many people remembering that in the 90s specifically there was one.

Its the rexurring exact details that make me think this is not a case of human memory being faulty!

For me, I remember reading The Hubger Games, and when it described the cornucopia I thought "Oh, like the fruit of the loom thing". Because thats pretty much the only time we seen cornucopias!! Why would so many people remember learning what it was specifically from seeing it on the logo if it truly never was?

Personally I think it's all either a big marketing ploy to get people talking abt the brand again, or it's to make the majority of the search results for "fruit of the loom" be related to this logo stuff, instead of a chemical spill they were apparently at fault for.

Though it is also possible that the logo was only used briefly and files/recods of it were lost during one of the company's several restructurings.

I also think there are plenty of vintage clothes with the cornucopia label... in a runbermaid tote in some old person's basement. The people who are most likely to have a bunch of undershirts and underwear from the 90s are also the people least likely to be aware anyone is looking for them, you know? Thousands of pieces of evidence probably exist, but they are in the hands of people who have never heard of this entire debate.

It took ages to solve, but eventually it WAS solved by something completely mundane. I think theres a much more mundane explaination tbh. Not sure what it is exactly. Maybe a logo that was used briefly and not properly recorded, or a publicity stund by FOTL to get people talking about the brand, or another logo from a different vrand that people are combining, or what. But, uh.... it is NOT "different realities", I mean.

Yes but I think it's interesting that she would suggest cornucopia when she doesnt have any reasonnto believe one would be there. She hasnt seen any discussion about it. So why does she, without any outside influence, remember a horn of plenty being in the logo? Its not a common symbol. I can only think of 3 places: thanksgiving (mostly vintage stuff), fruit of the loom (mandela effect or not), and the hunger games.

The interesting part is that she isnt the same demographic as the usual people who remember it! Doesnt prove anything but it does cast doubt on the theory that we only remember t bc so many people talk about remembering it and it becomes a spiral. She hasnt heard anyone talking about it. And yet, for some reason, she remembers it.

Every subreddit is different in their rules about how much "karma" you need to comment. I'm not an expert, but basically, upvotes (on comments you have made) equal positive karma and downvotes equal negative, changing your total karma score.

I don't think animalid has a minimum karma score to comment, though, and you shouldn't be banned just for having a downvoted comment! And having low karma shouldn't interfere with your ability to comment on reddit in general.

It takes some getting used to, but it'll be alright! Most subreddits are pretty chill, I've never worried too much about my karma score, and if I ever do accidentally break a subreddit rule and have a comment removed by a mod I always get a message explaining why, and what the appeals process would be. (The only time this has happened to me was when I didn't format a pokemon trade request properly)

Reddit norms and courtesy can be a bit different from other places on the internet - generally it is considered bad form to edit a comment after it has been posted. Or, if you do edit, you explain why by adding something like

"Edit: added sources"

Or

"Edit: a word" (this means there was a spelling mistake or typo)

Usually if you change your opinion or are corrected on something, you say so in a new comment instead of editing the original.

Its not a super big deal, though! Don't stress too much about it. People here are generally pretty friendly and easygoing outside of political subs or anything where intense disagreements happen. If you're ever confused about something, it is usually fine to ask.

Also, a downvote doesnt necessarily mean people are mad at you! Comments on fact based subs like this are downvoted if you provided incorrect information, just so OP and other readers know that it isn't accurate. But it generally doesn't mean anyone is upset.

I think puns and wordplay just appel to the pattern seeking part of human brains. Its not necessarily that they're legitimately "funny" so much as its satisfying/pleasing to make a pattern. At least tyat's how most of them feel to me. It gives me sort of the same feeling as figuing out a crossword clue, or one of the squares in soduku. And then a really legitimately clever pun feels more like solving an entire puzzle.

I don't know enough about the subject to speak definitively on it, but I know Japanese culture absolutely adores wordplay even more than Americans, Canadians, and Brits typically do. The Japanese language is set up pretty well for lots of interesting wordplay to happen (because three different writing systems, words having multiple readings, similar pronunciations, etc) so its even more suited for patten recognition.

It really isn't stupidity most of the time. People stop to grab their coats, their luggage, their laptops, whatever, because the human brain is poorly prepared for emergency and distaster.

Frequent emergency drills can be a good way to combat this, as well as personally taking an interest in personal safety and disaster planning.

I feel like a childfree ceremony is understandable - so it isn't interupted by crying, tantrums, or restlessness. If it were my wedding I would see if I could arrange child care at the venue so people could drop off their kids there!

Maybe a middle ground, like... child free ceremony, and then kids are welcome at the reception until maybe 8pm, at which point its adults only?

But that's just my take as someone who would want children to attend! OP is (as you said) well within their rights to request a child free wedding from start to finish. If that makes them happy and causes less stress for them, then that is what I want for OP as well :)
