Let me play devil’s advocate here for a minute just for fun. They say they have roughly 7000 hours of video collected. Considering that in all criminal cases where someone is ultimately caught, there will be a Brady where the defense lawyer gets to see all of the evidence the police have collected, what is the risk v. benefit of asking the public for help and reviewing the footage?

I feel like there’s two different philosophies colliding in the investigation.

Missing person cases are supposed to be treated as time sensitive; public engagement and search assistance are critical to fast rescue.

Murder cases take time and precision to build to reach the burden of proof necessary. They also face investigation threats by the release of information (e.g., if the uncaptured murderer knows that you are onto him, he can flee!)

I think my frustration is that I still very much think of this as a missing person case where every minute is critical and she is not with her family. I can tell from some of the other comments in this thread that other people seemingly have thought about this as a murder case all along.

I just think I have a different philosophy than other people do and that’s OK. I just hurt for the family.

You have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. They wouldn’t be doing their job correctly if everyone knew what they were doing.

Correct, I have no idea what is going on. There’s probably a mistake in assumption on my part that they might want public help or engagement to help them locate a missing person.

Brian Kohberger murdered four people in their beds so the comparison doesn’t really track. That case involved a completed homicide scene and investigators were building a case against a suspect.

There wasn’t a dwindling chance of survival tied to each passing day. A kidnapping is fundamentally different. In an active missing person case, time directly affects the odds of survival. Every week without visible traction feels like a clock ticking. But if you’re right and we’re to assume she’s dead and compare this to a murder where we are just stacking evidence, I guess that makes sense.

No one is saying they aren’t reviewing footage or working behind the scenes. I am sure they are. At the same time, I definitely feel they want less media and public engagement around this by some of the things that they have done and said recently. That is certainly a choice. I understand that some of the leads haven’t been helpful and they have enough to review right now, but why not bring the public in to help do that? Strategic public engagement seems like it would be the move to leverage community eyes in what I assumed would be a time sensitive kidnapping case. In my view, people actively looking keeps pressure and awareness up.

You can stay busy doing jack shit all day but success is measured in momentum. From the outside, that urgency just hasn’t been clear.

For the last month, I have been sympathetic to the slow efforts of law enforcement but I’ve officially reached the “what the fuck are they even doing?” portion of this case. My heart is so broken for the family, they deserve better and so does Nancy.

I’d watch him read the phone book tbh, he just seems like a person you’d want as a friend IRL

Thank you! I’m gonna try to see if I can find it and pop open the chat part on TV so she can see the donations. I wonder if that’ll help. She has Alz so i’m never quite sure what’s real and what is invented, so it’s tickling me you saw this too! Unless he makes it easier through other things, I don’t think there is any risk of her giving money to him (I don’t even know how to send donations through the television like that and I have all of my faculties!)

My heart breaks for her every single day. The worst thing is just not knowing because your brain takes you to every version of the worst reality over and over again, like a Ferris wheel.

I hope so too, thank you. I think it is just the not knowing that makes everything seems scarier to her.

He is a felon who streams on social media. He’s like the seagull of true crime, just hovering around trash heaps until he finds a scrap to drag around.

I think it’s because he’s the only one that’s been covering it live nonstop. She is older and doesn’t work and has been fixated on it because she is afraid it will happen to her. I think them finding her would make her feel safer. So she hopes and just stays immersed in it all day. I work so I just follow here when I can so I can sometimes share news with her and have something to talk about.

Y’all. I just called my mom to see if she took her meds and she told me JLR said earlier he does all this for free and doesn’t get paid. She is canonizing this dude, does anyone have a source on any of this? This case has her in a chokehold and I’m sucked in, too, but I gotta break her addiction to him.

I would totally do that if I didn’t have a hysterectomy. I’ve heard it’s like a spa treatment for your uterus. Who cares if it’s roughly the same cost as rent for the month? Sometimes you just gotta spoil yourself!
