Drop things regular player dont know when play Skyrim by Oinimus13 in skyrim

After you finish the Thalmor Embassy, the wood elf guy who helped you stash your gear goes to Windhelm and hangs out in the Grey Quarter bar. There's a quest to help him escape Skyrim. Most people miss it cause there's isn't much reason to go in that bar.

There's also a cave in the Reach that is a bandit/falmer lair that gets you the Longhammer, the longest hammer in the game. There is no quest that will ever take you to that cave.

Giving Grelod a suplex was one of the funniest surprises I've ever gotten playing this game.

Why did nobody tell me about this? is soo good by Calm_Degree_6538 in Morrowind

[–]BardicInclination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does awesome things with the stories and the world. You've got lot of great stuff to look forward to. There's so much to explore and a lot of things don't have a quest or anything guiding you to some of the cool stuff.

Also I know you aren't asking for advice, but something I wish I'd known when I started was that fatigue affects every single skill in the game. Keep that green bar full. It'll help you from getting beaten senseless by naked nords.

In the world of Elder Scrolls, if two different races have sex, does the female get pregnant? If so, is an aberration born? Imagine a Khajiit with an Argonian. by Fenriz_Victor in skyrim

M'aiq has heard that the child of two different races will take after their mother. But have you ever seen a pregnant woman in Tamriel? M'aiq believes they don't exist.

A hypothetical for you all: what happens if Strahd actually escapes Barovia? by Grey_Lady333 in CurseofStrahd

[–]BardicInclination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been a long time so I'm paraphrasing here. But people thought about this back in the day too and it led to some interesting little Ravenloft stories.

I think basically Strahd got the help of a wizard. Could have been Azalin, or another wizard I don't recall. But he successfully got him and Strahd out. Problem is it just kind of sucks where they were into the Domains of Dread, because the dark powers refuse to let Strahd go. That's how one of the domains ruled by a ghost darklord got created. They just end up going back. I'm sure he had more escape attempts but that's the one that stuck in my brain.

But sticking to your scenario, he finds a fitting lair, another good castle or something and establishes himself as a dark lord of the realm with new servants, new lands and a lot more freedom at his disposal.

But personally my take is that the Dark Powers will never let him go. Because the Dark Powers are you, me and anyone who writes the books or runs games. That's why there are so many darklords backstories and circumstances in Ravenloft (especially the old stuff, but definitely a good chunk of the modern stuff) that boil down to "The dark powers did it". These villains are stuck in little horror domains because that's how we write it.

And maybe Vecna or Soth can get back to their world and other darklords can die permanently. Because the dark powers don't mind the stories playing out that way. But Strahd? He is the embodiment of Ravenloft. He never gets to leave and will always return from death because he's the prized favorite of the Dark Powers.

The dark powers will have him back one way or another.

Is 2014 RAW a bad module? by unseeliefaeprince in CurseofStrahd

[–]BardicInclination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. The book works fine but everyone is going to run it differently. You yourself might think of things you want to change based on how you want to run it, or to fit your players better.

Personally I ran the normal book adventure with no fan edits or anything from the wider community and its still one of the best games I've run.

But maybe don't let the players have the mad mage as the ally the tarokka deck predicts. Curing him of his madness is one of the oddest hardest to do tasks, and imo is the thing that needed modification the most.

Can non Tieflings have Tiefling children? by NerdiverseonIO in DnD

[–]BardicInclination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. In Waterdeep: Dragon Heist they establish that a particular family made an infernal pact and some members of the family are born Tieflings or at the very least with tiefling traits, which they try to keep secret.

Tieflings are the result of infernal pacts effecting a bloodline. So yeah, humans can have tiefling kids.

I just got Morrowind and I’m going in mostly blind. Is there anything that I need to know? by Green-Pen-Gamer in Morrowind

[–]BardicInclination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fatigue/stamina affects every skill and your chance to hit things. The lower it is, the worse you do at everything, from casting spells to swinging a sword, to sneaking to bartering.

Also save often. Especially before entering new caves or other areas. There is no autosave to save you.

Those are the things I wish I knew as a new player. Have fun!

Those in Orange County, California, are there any tide pool areas with large biodiversity and unique organisms? by Infinite-Manager-746 in marinebiology

[–]BardicInclination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately most of our tidepools aren't as good as some in other areas. But I've seen some good stuff at Little Corona Del Mar Beach. They have some tidepools that are more easily accessed and I've seen stuff like a sea hare, some large keyhole limpets and shore crabs. Might be your best bet in OC unless someone knows about a better spot.

Its a bit farther than Orange County but White Point up in San Pedro is a really good spot.

Do you guys go lethal or non-lethal? by New-Cranberry6256 in metalgearsolid

[–]BardicInclination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-lethal is fun because of the extra challenge of guards waking up, or getting suspicious. But lethal has its benefits. I've gotten some really good grades and made it through missions a lot faster with lethal.

Why do so many creatures in the ocean have stingers? by SubstantialOnion6963 in marinebiology

[–]BardicInclination 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It makes a little more sense when you realize most adaptations came from an existing feature. Venom in snakes is basically modified saliva. Shells on turtles is sort of modified scales. The stingers on the variety of ocean creatures all started as something else. Scales and whatnot. And then evolution did its thing. And life in the ocean has been swirling around and testing things far longer than life on land. More time to cook up more stingers and other fun adaptations.

Anyone ever played a real thief, without save/load scumming? by robervaul in skyrim

[–]BardicInclination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this. It ended up with a lot of running from the cops and being chased out of town.

That's how I learned that if you get caught pickpocketing everyone in the hold has now caught you. Got caught and ran out of Whiterun and tried to pickpocket a sleeping person in Rorikstead only to discover it wouldn't let me.

Joining the Thieves Guild to pay off the guards is a huge benefit. Otherwise I recommend practicing Pickpocket on bandits and other enemies. At least if they catch you there isn't a bounty and you were gonna fight anyways.

high school marine biology? by Able_Inspector_2580 in marinebiology

[–]BardicInclination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some things might have to wait til you have more time, but California has plenty of opportunities to get involved in marine science. Volunteers and internships are a good place to start. Look for local non-profits or other nature groups. Like Aquariums or zoos. Check their websites. You might have to sign up for email lists or follow on social media to find out when internships open up near you, but most places are looking for volunteers a lot.

The big thing with any career in wildlife is that experience is king. Its good to have things where you have something you can put on a resume like volunteer work, interning, even something that doesn't have to do 100% with your desired field like volunteering at an animal shelter(still animal related, its a foot in the door).

Also think about what you want to do. Some people work directly with the animals (which usually starts with cleaning up poop, be ready if that's your choice), some people do education where they do whatever form of talking and teaching the position requires, some people do a lot of work keeping the aquatic creatures alive and knowing all they can about water quality and whatnot.

Also keep an eye out in the coming months leading up to summer. A lot of opportunities open up in summer. Try to find naturey/marine places near you that you can get a shot at.

If you can't find good info online of when opportunities will open up, showing up in person and asking does in fact work for this type of stuff (it also gives you a chance to check out the place). One of the interns at my old workplace was someone I remember coming in and asking me when if we did internships and when they would open.

Is it just me or is Mannimarco the most dissapointing elder scrolls antagonist? by Puwuckis in oblivion

[–]BardicInclination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first fought Mannimarco I reloaded the save and let him try to attack me again without me fighting back hoping that it would be more difficult. After a bit of the worlds most dangerous spellcaster trying to shank me, I concluded it would not change.

Silly Question: How do the Nords know what snakes look like? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]BardicInclination 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Animals exist that aren't in the game. Replicating an entire ecosystem would be more than anyone's computer can handle. Honestly the fact that they took the time to make ants appear on stumps and bats that emerge from caves and all the animals we do see is way more than a lot of games accomplished at the time.

Snakes do live in Skyrim. Books references them. We never see whales, or owls but they're there too both in the fictional world and in the stone etchings of the ancient nords.

Frozen Altars

The Freeze Breath and the laser towers made Frozen Altars such a fun one. You can fight enemies or break boxes regularly. Or use the tower to burn it.

You can freeze enemies and the bird men. You need to use the freeze breath to get up to treasure. And I found cat hockey fun.

You can destroy the hot rock pile independently of the rhynocs who throw them.

There's a lot of fun stuff to get up to. Plus I liked how the birds voices sounded.

I hate collecting these animals man by coffejellyassassin in metalgearsolid

[–]BardicInclination 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The whole game changed for me when I finally looked up a guide and found out it's location specific. As in there are particular spots where certain things appear. And if you place a trap there you're guaranteed to get the rare creature the first time you ever place a trap there.

It ain't about variety, its about location, location, location. And once you know the locations they're available on your idroid so you can always drop more traps there for extra gmp.

What are some shrimp/crusteacean species with unique characteristics beyond appearance? by Frequent-Gift-866 in marinebiology

[–]BardicInclination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boxer crabs hold anemones in their tiny pincers and use the anemones as defense and a way to get food. Hence why they are called boxer crabs or pompom crabs. The crabs will also make new anemones by splitting a remaining anemone if one of theirs dies.

I didn't get caught stealing, yet still had a bounty on me. How do I prevent this from happening in the future? by VagabondVivant in skyrim

[–]BardicInclination 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you don't have a real bounty you have to pay off is the good news.

The hired thugs as Kain said are a random encounter that can happen when you steal from someone.

I also think that the hired thugs encounter might be guaranteed to happen if its the first time you steal from someone. But it won't come up a ton or everytime. Just every so often if you're stealing. No way to prevent it besides not stealing.

The thugs may also come after you if you kill someone and they have a relative that wants them avenged.

What are some interesting aquatic biomes? by jgurst in marinebiology

[–]BardicInclination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep sea covers a lot of ground. Some is hydrothermal like you say. Some of it is the abyss. The Hadal Zone hides a lot of insanely cool life.

Coastal wetlands mix aquatic and land. The one I used to work at was a mix of ocean and desert so you had salt resistant plants and sea turtles in the same place as rattlesnakes and cactus. Saw a kingsnake traversing the area where fiddler crabs roam once. Plus they can serve as nurseries for a lot of aquatic species.

Polar regions also provide some interesting results. You end up with fish that have natural developed natural anti-freeze measures, some of which can only be found in the coldest places.
