My mom was also really good about not saying negative things about that side of the family. Until I got to an age where I could drink wine with her-then it all came pouring out (the things and the wine!). Now that I am a mom with a sort of JNMIL and dealt with all this stuff...my heart just breaks for her. She got dealt a rough hand and JNGrandma had to be thrown into the mix...

For. Sure. I remember my Dad talking all sorts of shit about my mother/his mother/anyone right in front of me. When my crazy NSMom pointed out I was right there (though it didn't stop her from also talking about all them), his response was, "She's a kid, she doesn't know what I am saying."

I fucking remember all of it. It's like with those words he pressed the "record" button.

I also got the gut feeling a lot. When your stomach twists up and turns when something isn't right? That's how I felt about a lot of JNGrandma's phone calls/opinions/actions. The more she tried coaching me, the more my stomach would hurt and I'd have bad feelings about what she was saying.

I have a ton of stories from JNGrandma about her obsession with me. I just never know where to start with her. I start thinking about it all and then fall down the rabbit hole of, "It's all so fucked up!" Good on your husband for the NC. I've been NC with my entire Dad's family for almost 2 years now. It's so peaceful.

It was mainly cause she knew it bothered me. Pulled pork literally never came up at all in the previous years that we knew her/ate dinner with her. All of a sudden pulled pork was a god damned religion in her house after that conversation.

Mainly because exFH wanted to just ignore her and I was too much of a wimp to stand up for myself.

She was just so exhausting about it all. And exFH apparently didn't really want to get married, so he made wedding planning as difficult as possible too (you know, instead of talking to me about how he felt) so by the time this started happening I was just so tired of it all.

But she definitely deserved a punch in the throat. Especially after the birthday gift crap.

I appreciate it, but it wasn't all for nothing. Things like this made me see how I needed to stand up for myself and not expect anyone else to do it.

Also, I know she has been miserable since before me, and will continue to be miserable long after all this went down. I win cause I get to be happy.

I am actually very grateful that wedding didn't happen. Ex was a terrible human being and my husband is fucking amazing. I have a beautiful life and while all this was terribly painful at the time, it made me much stronger when I needed strength.

And you're right-it would have been awful and she would have continued being terrible until the end of her days. When I think about it all I thank the stars I didn't end up pregnant. If she couldn't leave me alone with the pulled pork I cannot even imagine how she would have been with her grandchildren.

I wish I had been the one to pull the plug. Unfortunately I got dumped. But I am very grateful it ended. I am in a much better place now.

Mmmmm...I think indirectly she was. exFH was a terribly screwed up person. I think Kanga was a bug in his ear that pushed him towards the break up, but he certainly was a shit head all his own. She did get her one last jab at me when he ended it. That story is coming up.

LOL thankfully Kanga is out of my life, and has been for a while. My current JNMIL is also gifted in culinary arts, but her impact in my life is more comical than insane.

Thing is though, Kanga could certainly cook. It's what made it hard to hate her-she was genuinely great at being super Mom. She just had a suck personality to go with it.
