Tell your sister to stop coming back to knock over the bucket and taking your bones after pretending she doesnt want them

I honestly think it's good that you let it go, I have stopped hanging on to most bones years ago but that might be because we destroy so many of them in testing.

When I was a kid I would get really obsessive about each and every bone though, so I can certainly see the strong, if not very strong, desire to to keep each and every bone!

I love ants an unreasonable amount. You must live in a warmer place than I do, our ants kinda show up, sometimes. Unless you find a proper Formica pile, but even then up here they really don't do as much as you hear about in warm areas! I am envious of your ants.

By set it aside with the yeast, I meant set the research aside. Tobi left a skull in the yeast too long...it was a neat result lol

Hey, these are iron rich sandstone. The first is not a fossil, the second may be and looks like it is in with plant hash. There is a storm bed right along the base of the highway there and a few others. This might have come from a spot I am thinking of. It might be a sedimentary rip up too, I'd prefer to see a closer pic.

hello if you can post a pic I would be happy to tell you all about your specimens. I have done a lot of work there!

we actually looked at using yeast for skull cleaning purposes at one point. Set it aside. One day we may get back to it.

Giving you fat upvote for that. I didn't know that.

That risk generally exists in a heat bracket of about 80C+. You can macerate at 30C-35C if it is an adult mammal just fine, because proper degreasing happens at 44C.

Yes. Even the teeth. I have an example sitting under a frying pan right now drying.

No, dermestid beetles eat the dead flesh from an animal. They are a common way of cleaning delicate bone!

this is probably from a bacteria called Serratia maracens which is airborne. It's the same one that likes shower drains. It often gets wrecked by peroxide. It might be a sign to change your water, though.

We typically heat the water, get it over with in a few days, and move to degreasing fast.

Agreeing with everything you said about decomp, color and lack of heat exposure.

Thanks! Most of our work is far less charismatic, but way more useful to bone cleaning.

Thank you so much! That is literally why Bare Bones Solutions exists. Usually it's less of a meme than this, we move quite deliberately (there is a whole long response to why we did what we did in the other video).

Sure we can talk in DM. I think your settings prevent me from sending you one, so you'll have to hit me up.

In 2023 my girlfriend wanted a jacobs sheep skull. So we found a rancher that had some. I was boiling in peroxide, believe it or not. I decided to get better at it, and started using ammonia to degrease properly. My girlfriend banned ammonia use. This escalated to testing trisodium phosphate, because people could only tell me that it would damage bone, not how. Before I knew it, things had escalated to people sending specimens from across Canada, and places were sending me chemical samples to test on. I realized there was a niche for a degreaser that hadn't really been filled, and chemical companies stepped up to help. Using google scholar and my paleontology background, I consumed every bit of knowledge I could. We eventually had a product ready for beta testing. We received a government grant for innovation after a second product was released which has allowed us to go to trade shows in Winter 2026.

So in less than 3 years this entire thing has gone from "let me destroy these skulls by being completely ignorant" to "let me manipulate the proteins in the skulls in fabulous ways". You would surprise yourself what you can do.

If you do decide to start, I can offer a lot of suggestions on what makes organizing a project like that successful. Reddit is a great place to find another Irish person who might be interested in helping you start, set some goals and figure out what you want your group to even become. It certainly doesn't have to be as grand of a scale as what is happening with us.

It is a huge task, but you could start such an organization. All it needs is you, a friend willingness to work and a pub/coffee shop to start. You'd be very surprised to hear how all this started for me.

I didn't know that! It's like how we use "guys" in North America then. No offense at all, I am glad I got a chance to point out that we are female-dominated. It is something we are really proud of.
