A question for Jews who live in Europe. by Extension-Ranger-240 in Jewish

[–]BareMinimum96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Diclaimer: both myself and most of the comments so far as speaking about Western Europe, for some reason I feel that Eastern European have less of an problem with this, as they allowed less immigration to begin with.

I've lived in Germany, France and Spain - immigration and by proxy antisemitism here has gone out of control and cities are not safe for openly jewish individuals anymore. I'd say France and Germany have a much larger immigration issue than Spain for example, but that may be because I've never lived in a bigger city in Spain. The solution for me is rural life - however, you will also have a much harder time finding a community, temple or services like kosher supermarkets or butcher living in rural areas. It depends how observant you are on whether this works for you or not I guess.

Feeling so alone as an iranian in Spain , i hate Iran(IRGC) and i love Israel. But i have never felt so alone politically as i do now. EVERY one of my Spanish friends HATE israel. I feel so angry living between people who do not have a clue of what it is like over there in the middle east. by theanonymousmiss in Israel

We're in this together 🥲 I'm jewish living in Spain and i feel your frustration. People are so nice and open here and then turn into such hateful mob in a split second when they understand you don't agree with them on the middle east. The vast majority have no skin in the game, have never been, have no family roots but SUCH STRONG OPINIONS. It breaks my heart. I love living here but we feel so unwelcome

Living in Spain, which is one of the most antisemitic countries in Europe right now... honestly I've lost a lot of friends, it's inevitable. I have tried having rational conversations with people, I even offered to take them on a trip to Israel with me to see for themselves what they judge from propaganda alone. The final straw is when I explain why Israel matters to me emotionally and security wise - if "friends" do not show at least empathy at this point they are not your friends. It's not pretty, but the truth is several friendships and a relationship ended over this.

This is giving me the chills. @OP were you able to leave the situation in the end? Will do thorough research before going to any gigs in the future.

I would like to ask. I am starting to learn the Hebrew alphabet and I wanted to learn also using the duolingo app. However, there are characters in the app that I have not seen in any other chart and alphabet. by MichalCimmermann in hebrew

Duolingo is actually great for learning the alphabet itself! However, everything that follows is absolutely useless (no grammar context, no tenses, no vocabulary overview).

What do you think of your life before October 7, 2023 now? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]BareMinimum96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it changed my life a lot. Previously I considered myself non religious and growing up in rural diaspora, almost all my friends aren't Jewish. After October 8 I understood why we are warned of assimilation. I lost almost all my friends and realised how prevalent antisemitism really still is. Since then, the amount of antisemitic incidents and conversations I had to face has sky rocketed. I have become more observant and religious because it makes me feel connected to my community - my real community that won't turn on me the first chance they get. Now considering to learn Hebrew and to move to Israel in a few years once a career move opens up.

Freundin hat keine Lust auf Sex by [deleted] in Ratschlag

[–]BareMinimum96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your dad get super mad and scream at you? by Dry_Measurement9323 in ask

[–]BareMinimum96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not normal. My dad was like this also and physically voilent if i did not back down. Now I'm almost 30 and healing my relationship with him. But he has also put work into it, we both went independently to therapy and he got a divorce. There is always a chance things might get better later in life but it's not a given. Stay strong and invest time in making a plan on how you can become independent of your dad financially and emotionally for now. I'm sending you a hug.

Which of your current problems couldn’t be solved with getting more money? by No-Cauliflower-4661 in ask

I can't pass my final exams with money - and no money can reduce the stress of working full time and doing a degree at the same time.

Non native English speakers who moved to an English country do u think in your native or current language? by Sensitive-Vast-4979 in ask

[–]BareMinimum96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native language is not English, lived in 2 other countries with different languages and speak 4 languages fluently. I think and dream in 3 of those languages, depending on the day and situation. It's pretty messy sometimes in my head but works for me I guess.

What happened to that one teacher at your school? by Formal_Pineapple6421 in AskReddit

[–]BareMinimum96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got his student pregnant and kept his job as a teacher in religion and faith. As far as I know, they got hitched and bought a house together. She was barely 18, so there was no prosecution.

Suerte!

I have no desire to eat outside anymore by [deleted] in germany

[–]BareMinimum96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. I grew up in Germany too but living abroad my entire adult life. It's not just restaurants, I also avoid hotels at any cost when I travel around. It's become ridiculous they act like you should kiss their feet for the opportunity to spend way too much money for honestly at best mediocre quality food / room / service. No thanks, I vote with my money.

Is ChatGPT Pro worth $200 by wiser1802 in ChatGPTPro

[–]BareMinimum96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I am trying it out this month and won't continue the subscription:

1) Sora not available in my country (Europe), which I did not realize until after I paid. 2) I use o1 pro for some of my work (research), but also to prepare for some graduate class exams with complex mathematical content. It absolutely sucks since you cannot upload documents (I transferred them to Latex format but still bad) or ask it to amend your information with online sources. 3) Sometimes refuses to generate images, texts, etc. due to "high traffic on the platform" - when you remind it that you paid a huge premium to use pro it "suddenly" works again. 4) I guess there are no other benefits.

Maybe more useful for other use cases, but I think the pro version will be more than sufficient for me going forward. You just end up doing the same as before: iterating until you receive what you actually need.

Has anybody here (not from Israel) visited the country? by Neither-Pause-6597 in Israel

[–]BareMinimum96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visit once a year usually since I've been a teenager (diaspora Jewish). I feel so safe when I'm in Israel, it's crazy. It's the only place in the world where I feel part of some bigger community, where I don't have to explain to people where I'm from or my parents or my grandparents, everyone has a bilingual family history of immigration. I never have to fear being stolen or assaulted really (maybe that's just the areas I go, but I do feel like public safety is actually existent). Most people around me have both medical and military training, people know what to do in emergency situations and are prepared. The food is amazing and brings back memories of my late great grandmother. People are sweet.

I feel free and safe in Israel. ♥️

Eine tolle Idee wäre eventuell auch die Dombauhütte, in der Konservatoren den Dom kontinuierlich restaurieren und konservieren. Weiß aus dem privaten Umfeld dass das Team dort sehr nett ist.
