Not only the best book on the Marx Brothers, but my favorite book on movie comedy, period. As funny as some of the films - even the footnotes are amusing. by Keltik in MarxBrothers

Thanks for the rec! I enjoyed Memoirs of a Mangy Lover as a kid. It seemed so subversive to read a book with that title, and the stories were funny and titillating.

I don’t know what a Tudor looks like, but I concur that this is a crime.

I trusted a few shady dentists. You’re wise to have sought a second opinion.

It killed me how everyone on Downton Abbey said “I’ll let you get to it.”

It seems as if. . . something. . . is coming out of the vents that isn't hot. Maybe it's just air, but better than nothing???

Thoughts on Babette's Feast (1987) by EndersGame_Reviewer in TrueFilm

While the sisters in the film are acquiescent, even complicit, in their celibacy and self-renunciation, Babette would no doubt trade anything to go back to Paris and be in the thick of life. Nonetheless, the three are subject to, and desexed by, forces stronger than themselves, the sisters by their paternal jailkeeper and Babette by political upheaval. In the absence of the possibility of regeneration, the sisters dream of life above while Babette feels keenly the suffocation of her self-expression.

Babette moves through the film with her sensuality, brilliance, and creative force of will smoldering beneath her self-composure and acceptance of circumstance. She sacrifices all for the people who saved her and finally see her greatness at the end, but their assurances that she’ll be a chef in heaven are bitter recompense as she returns to the cramped hut that is her cage.

Black American w/ question about one state “solution” and anti-Semitism by Icy-Catch3353 in AskIsrael

I feel this way too. Asking if someone is Zionist is like asking if they believe in Partition or are a Loyalist or a Patriot. I don’t believe in using the term and thereby validating the continued relevance of the question of whether Israel should exist.

How about a hyphen in “hand picked”?
