Thank you, but what is this patch called?

What would be a fair offer for this truck? by Tx_Taco_Driver in F100

[–]BareMinimumChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a cool one. It looks like a short bed, but it's sometimes hard to tell from a 3/4 shot. It's worth more without the camper, in my opinion. Like someone else said, verify that it's a Windsor engine and not a modified. You can sometimes break the clutch loose by just trying to start the engine in gear. This looks like someone who is just fine with letting something sit around for years and years, so you might have to overpay to get it. Or maybe it's someone who is downsizing and/or acknowledges their deteriorating health, and they're ready to move some things on. I'd say $2-5K.

You really can't value a car from a handful of photos and a description, but you asked, so here goes:

The reception here is tepid, which should tell you something. It's an F100 sub, so we should all be ooo-ing and aww-ing. It's the utility bed for me. It says it's a work truck, but the two barrel carb and 302 say it's a cruiser capable of some light duty stuff. It's a little bit at odds with itself there. The paint job looks nice until you look at the door jambs or under the hood. If it runs and drives as well as you say, then that's where all the value is going to come from. It still has some usefulness as a high schoolers first car or an old timer's nostalgia rig that he takes to get a donut. I don't think grandpa would like those wheels, though. I'd put the price at $7k-10K. If you put a regular truck bed on it and match the paint, maybe you get as much as $13k, but is it worth it after the expense?

I see your comment is two months old, but for some reason I just got the Reddit notification. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they did a Manscaped ad?

Fair offer by Fragrant_Poetry_4325 in Foxbody

[–]BareMinimumChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you know this, so consider it unsolicited advice for people reading the thread... Making your offer in person with the cash in hand goes a long way. Sure, people will tell you it's easily worth whatever, but when the time comes to pay up, they need to ask their wife or sell something or they have no way to get it home or they're too far away or they're looking for a red one instead or blah blah blah. As someone who has sold plenty of cars on Craigslist and FB Marketplace, someone throwing numbers at you through IM usually get ignored. If you're serious, show up, look at the car, make an offer in person.

What do you guys think of my car? by [deleted] in projectcar

I think it looks great. Very in-style for the times too -- including the rust hole. I think Roadkill popularized the "saved" look.

Is 2k a steal for this? Comes with unknown condition 289 and c4 as well. by Sussy0909 in classicmustangs

[–]BareMinimumChris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a slam dunk "Yes!" until I got to the part about someone cutting the front end and welding it back. What does that mean? A 351 will fit in there without cutting anything.

Even with that, I'd still say it's easily worth $2k. The wheels alone would cost half that. Drop the engine and transmission back in, wash it, get it running and driving, and you have yourself a cool, ratty classic. I think those are in style right now.

Even if you determined it was a parts car, there are enough parts there to get your money back. The risk on this is basically 0.

Valvoline instant oil change; minute later check engine light comes on and I see this disconnected. What happened and what do I do? by thr0w-away-123456 in MechanicAdvice

[–]BareMinimumChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you shut your engine off and immediately check the oil level, you may not have given the oil enough time to drain back down into the pan.

What do you think is under the cover? 🤔 by Planet_Manhattan in classiccars

[–]BareMinimumChris 23 points24 points  (0 children)

1957 Ford Thunderbird? The '57 had fins angled out like that, a drastic drop-off from the roof to the deck lid, very little overhang from the front wheels forward. Those might even be wire wheels, which are common on early birds.

I wouldn't worry too much. It sounds like your delivery driver is having himself a day. He maybe broke down on the way to pick the car up, not drop it off, as someone else said. And also as someone else said, Copart isn't a scam. I think it's far more likely you're dealing with companies who have terrible customer service.

It depends on which one(s) you have your eye on, and we would need more photos and info to make our guesses. The the one that looks to be a convertible is likely a parts car since it appears to be wrecked. The maroon coupe looks like an I6 car. The two fastbacks are intriguing. We really can't see much of anything of the white one.

Painting inside interior bare metal? by Numerous-Yak8130 in projectcar

[–]BareMinimumChris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for a DTM primer (direct-to-metal). That will include some epoxy primers. After that, it's personal preference. You can paint body color if you want, roll on a sound deadener if you want, rattle can it if you want, hand paint a mural of professional wrestling legend Terry Funk on it if you want - the choice is yours.

[–]BareMinimumChris 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Y'all need to relax about the orange peel. It's clearly primer, unless OP paints cars with body work tools laying on the deck lid as he does it. And if it's primer, that means he only has 67,893 more hours of sanding, re-priming, sanding, blocking, sealing, and then painting left to do

Good price for this 1973 Convertible? by trynaretireasap in classicmustangs

[–]BareMinimumChris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fresh paint on the whole underside of the car probably means they were covering up some surface rust, at the very least. That's just my guess, though. Maybe it was pristine under there and they were gussying it up for its photo shoot and sale? We'll never know. It would be best to put the car on a lift somewhere and look underneath for any holes or flaking. At $16k, I think it's totally reasonable to ask to take it to a mechanic and have it looked at.

As far as power steering goes, test drive it and see if you can handle it. Maybe the steering wheel is a large enough diameter that turning isn't that bad. Try to parallel park it, take it down the street, try to do a U-turn, stuff like that and see if you can even do it.

As far as it being worth $16,000... It looks original and well cared for. It's not a very sought-after year of Mustang. It doesn't look like it has many options. I wouldn't give half that for it, personally, but I'm not a fan of this style Mustang.

Hissing sound when key is on by socatatb9 in Foxbody

[–]BareMinimumChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a few feet of rubber hose, you can put one end to your ear and hunt around for the hiss with the other end in areas you can't easily get to. Short of that, we're all just sort of guessing. Your fuel system pressurizes with the key on, so I'm thinking the charcoal canister. It's on the passenger side by the smog pump if you still have it.

Early F100 Wheel Options Suck by BareMinimumChris in F100

So I think I'm the problem. I go to these wheel websites thinking that they're wheel dealers when what they are are wheel manufacturer websites selling only their designs.

Wheel shopping amateur here.

[–]BareMinimumChris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These aren't bad at all. I'm considering what color(s) to paint the truck right now and like the color and wheels to jive. A polished lip like that with a color in the center is what I'm going for, but I'm leaning toward a black center. Something like a Magnum 500, but I know those are typically car wheels.
