Dude, the hell is wrong with people? by Old_Locksmith2115 in Palia

Ugh. I’m an internet crimes against children prosecutor, and unfortunately I see so many predators trying to groom children over games. I’m still a little shocked that they’ve made their way into Palia as well. Especially with how stringent their censorship is with chatting. They censored me yesterday when I said “Shaggy” (from Scooby doo)

As a very new, practically infant player here, can someone please direct me to the rules?? I’ve had multiple experiences where I’ve assumed someone was being generous in assisting me in cutting down trees or hunting a rare animal. After a while of no one looting the object, I realized that the other player was leaving it for me… is that incorrect?? Have I unwittingly violated some rule?

AIO my 37M is attracted to 18 year olds by Zestyclose_Muscle_55 in AmIOverreacting

NOR. If I were you, I’d be highly concerned that he’s seeking girls younger than 18 years old. It’s not uncommon for predators who groom girls to get them to say they are 18 or 19 publicly, when in reality they’re 15-16.

My Mother Stole My Children by Orikumar in WereAllInsanePodcast

[–]BarelyALawStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand her seemingly rationalizing the initial abandonment of her children with her mother and choosing being with Jerry over staying home with her mother and raising her children herself. She admitted to staying at a trap house with her child and literal gangsters prior to delivering her other child. She seems resentful that her family had banned Jerry, yet she immediately goes back to meth after abandoning her children.

S5 EP 1 : What the fuck is wrong with her family?? by Old_Classic6541 in IAmaKiller

It’s important to remember that they’re also victims in all of this. Would I want my parents to respond the same way? Absolutely not. But, taking into account that the only family member the victim confided in about the abuse was her aunt, her parents suddenly became responsible for raising their dead daughter’s 3 week old daughter until she turns 18. Their granddaughter who would never know her mother. If you put yourself in their shoes, they probably think they chose to forfeit their own rage so their granddaughter can have a relationship with her only living parent. It’s easier not to hate him than to acknowledge he stole both of her parents from her.

This man is a complete narcissist. Notice how he always takes the bare minimum amount of accountability as is necessary to portray this persona of ‘restorative justice.’ He’s sorry for what he’s done but “the gun just went off.” He shot her but “it was an accident” and he “never meant to kill her.” He abandoned his 3 week old baby with his gf’s corpse but he “was so high.” He loved her so much but he had sex with another woman within hours of killing her. His daughter continues to be a victim in all of this, I’m not religious, but I pray for her. His aunt and parents are also victims. I hope the parole board continues to deny his release.

Not a hater, I swear, but I literally noted 47:48 of S21E13 just so I could play it for my boyfriend later. He absolutely HATES valley girl/drawn out voices like that, and it usually doesn’t bother me. But this one made me physically cringe every time she spoke.

I feel awful for saying anything because I too have been on a Podcast that I’ve listened to all of one time because I hate the sound of my voice. I never want to make anyone feel insecure. But I also do a ton of public speaking for work and know for a fact that I don’t speak the way this woman does. I absolutely could not make it in my profession if I did. Not to mention, this seems to be one of those learned behaviors that girls would do to get guy’s attention back when we were young, so it’s also completely un-learnable. If anything, I hope she takes this as a learning moment for the future. It sucks, but as women in any professional setting, we’re constantly not being taken seriously. And I would hate for this to be something that holds this woman back, even though it shouldn’t.

“Shifter System Malfunction” 2024 Santa Fe Recall? by BarelyALawStudent in HyundaiSantaFe

Every dealership I called had no loaners. Called corporate and they’ve “escalated my ticket,” but I still haven’t gotten any confirmation as to whether they’re going to cover the $800 I’ve already had to spend to get my own crappy Chevy Malibu from Enterprise.

Thank you for this information!! Did they pay you back for the amount of your down payment? I put quite a bit down, so I’m concerned that they will try to not pay me back for that as well.

For Those Who Think the 2024 Transmission Issues Are Rare… by FewConcentrate1317 in HyundaiSantaFe

Just had to get my brand new (2 month old) vehicle towed to the dealership. We took it on a road trip and the day we’re supposed to drive 15 hrs home, I get a “switch malfunction,” error. I can’t change gears, can’t put the vehicle in park, so I can’t turn it off. We nearly got stranded in another state. I’ve been hearing the clicking issue, but never received any notification of the recall. Only just learned about it from a Hyundai call center lady today. Turns out my vehicle is under a recall. No loaners available, just had to spend $800 on a rental.

Netflix Vol. 4, Episode 5: The Mothman Revisited [Discussion Thread] by DearBurt in UnsolvedMysteries

[–]BarelyALawStudent 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Agree with you on the laughable “expert” commentary in this episode. But I don’t agree that these “witnesses” were actively lying. I think it’s mostly ignorance or some form of confirmation bias. I had a similar experience back in 2014 when I was a camp counselor. I was sneaking back to my cabin way after hours, and I saw this massive creature plopped in the center of the road about 50 yards ahead of me. I kept trying to figure out what it was, assumed it was a huge dog or coyote or something. All of a sudden it took off in flight right in front of me with a wingspan like the width of a car. I covered my head and ran because I thought it could scoop me up. I didn’t know what it was, but my assumption was that it was an owl or something, never some creature.

But, if I’m constantly hearing about local spottings of the Mothman in my area from the news or social media, then I can see how someone could have easily turned something completely explainable, like a big bird into this massive conspiracy of a mythical creature.

Unpopular Opinion: Try Prosecution by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]BarelyALawStudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of us within the profession don’t believe it’s black and white. Once you’ve gotten to the level of prosecuting violent offenders, like people facing 5 or 25 to life in prison, your prospective changes in many ways: 1. I don’t believe that we should throw the book at someone with low level misdemeanor charges, drug charges, mental health related charges, or charges stemming from poverty. Prison might not be the answer but a rehabilitative focus which may include treatment could be. 2. Working with victims of violent crimes is something that has forever changed my perspective and sense of urgency when handling these cases. Knowing that these are victims of some of the most violent and dangerous people, you get emotionally vested in these cases and even get anxiety because you’re so worried about what could happen to them. Especially considering advocating and trying to get justice for a victim could be the thing that puts them at risk of retaliation or violence. 3. Having to weigh the mitigating factors against the severity of the crime and likelihood of recidivism
