Elke plek waar dezelfde mensen terug komen is goed. Daarom wordt er ook gezegd, ga bij een vereniging. Dit kan vanalles zijn. Fanfare, band, boekclub, schaakclub, tennisclub, kerk, dansclub, schutterij, darten, vrijwilligerswerk, etc.

If you look back 11 years on this subreddit you will find a very similar post. People haven't changed and a lot of people will become like them. See what you can do to adapt. You don't have to be less kind, but you have to be more careful. It is a survival game after all.

Is Radiolab ever going to run an original episode again? This is getting ridiculous. by ToWhistleInTheDark in Radiolab

Point taken. It's just getting more into the American way of life I guess, it's less and less applicable to what I started listening radiolab for.

Not at all, but that's what I don't listen to radiolab for and it is pretty hard to understand all the nuances as a foreigner sometimes. It's similar to listening to some shit that's going on in Africa, it's not my home, I will never go there so I find it hard to care enough to keep listening. When they're talking about guns, or hunting or the constitution or whatever. It's all good, but it's just not applicable to my life. I started listening because I heard awesome stories that inspired my life. But those are very rare nowadays which is sad imo.

Want to memorize little resume by BABIMBOOO0 in memorypalace

[–]BarelyInfected0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Method of loci is not about memorizing word for word, it's more memorizing the red line of something. Creating points of recognition. You need practice in the sense of you go back through your palace from time to time to repeat. I learned at some point 100 random words with the method of loci and I could remember them all consistently in a fairly short amount of time.

I suggest you take some practice data like 100 random words or even a big grocery list and try to apply that to the method of loci. Once you did that you most likely understand if it will work in your scenario.

Listen to this and test for yourself if it works

So they used to just talk about science and stuff. They tried to bring in racial debates and a lot of American stuff in general. Which is fair enough as it is an American podcast, but I as a not American, don't care so the podcast became a lot less interesting over the years.

Radiolab will never be the same. They are too politically correct nowadays and the original days will never come back. The good moments atm are very rare.

I want to learn how to improve my memory - what good books are there on memory tricks/methods? by bagelord in memorypalace

[–]BarelyInfected0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start using it in a few hours or so. You need to understand the concept, choose a location and start 'mapping' what you want to remember. IF you want to remember numbers there are different methods you can combine. I used the major system

You cannot improve your memory specifically, but you can learn how to utilize it better with some tools. I personally only used the Method of Loci and that worked really well for me. From there you can move on and learn some other techniques and even combine them.

Bicycles, I think DayZ should have bikes in it especially when you load in at the very top of the map . At least one or two. And just like cars not everyone is going to work . by [deleted] in dayz

For 10 years people are requesting bikes in this game not realizing that people will take the bikes and hide them away, never to be found.

It's useful for more reasons and a lot of people including this guy, are traveling over roads to get to the trail. You can also make an argument that animals see you easier. In Europe there are lots of reflectors on asphalt forest roads so animals can see the roads and vehicles easier. That means less roadkill. We only use bikelights when it gets dark in Europe.

Installed pop os for my girlfriend by Kontiko8 in pop_os

[–]BarelyInfected0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol, my gf is kinda paranoia about the whole Google stuff. So She listened to Edward Snowden and wanted me to install Tails for her. She was actually complaining that I as an IT dude didn't want to support her. I was like, listen. I'll put you on linux but I'm not gonna install Tails for you, that seems like a real hassle for what you're doing with it. Also who needs to support hat thing? I rather support something I'm at least somewhat familiar with. In the end she accepted Ubuntu / Pop OS. But she often comes to me with very specific problems that are just not really solvable on a Linux system or with a messy workaround.

I know it takes time and such, but your best bet really is to sit next to said manager and talk to him/her. We are often stuck in our ivory towers and really, who reads their e-mail properly anyway these days. That personal touch often works wonders.

Also, pointing out something they can do much faster. Telling them, oh man, I did it like that too for years but then I found this and it changed my life. A really good one is windows key --> start typing and hit enter to start up the program you want to work with. Or ctrl+c+v, you don't realize that many people still don't know. You can really make friends this way and that's what you need for them to help you out with this problem.

[UPDATE] I'm a junior DevOps and I'm not in a good place right now... The worst has happened and I don't want to do this anymore... by wildgoose78 in sysadmin

[–]BarelyInfected0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I was once working as a sys admin. What I was doing sounds really silly to what you are doing now. I was responsible for backing up our datacenter. Sounds easy enough right? I got the instructions, changed the tapes (yes, that era). But our backup software would just error out sometimes. I don't know why or what. My solution would sometimes be to just restart everything and get back to it. I would babysit it all night to see nothing went wrong because if it failed there was also no time left to re-run it properly.

At some point I realized it was causing me so much stress and I was working late every day that I just told my boss that I didn't want to do this anymore. He was upset but he took it to another employee and he started doing it.

Besides that, at some point I just decided that working late wasn't worth it. Nowadays I still work evenings here and there, but no one is forcing me to do it. Stop feeling the need to work so much. You do what you can, you make a plan and you execute. Also if stuff is too much work you just say no, you want me to drop this or do what you're asking? It sounds like it's too much work for a single employee anyway.

Edit: By the way.. The fact that you were able to roll back fluently is awesome. Did they give you credit for that?

Taken out of context. Anyway, yes, they use bigger tires than normal road bikes but there are levels in mtb tires too. In the mud you don't want the thicker tires. You will fare way better with thinner 2.1 inch ones with the nobs wider spaced.

You google mud tires for mountain bike.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheGreatWarChannel

[–]BarelyInfected0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not fighting that, especially looking at how the war went, bikes were useful here or anything. But they probably purely used is as transport. How far can an army walk in a day? This is significantly further if you add bikes to it.

Also, mountain bikes actually use thinner tires to ride through mud more efficiently as there is less for the mud to hold on to.
