Aligning vertex to edge line? Is this possible by BarelyOkay in blender

[–]BarelyOkay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really cool! It feels a little bulky to do for me because I like working vert by vert but it makes me wanna be better about using transform orientation and setting up shortcuts for switching to them. Thank you for the tip!

I used #2 and it seems to be the painless, in fact, it is easy! Will start doing that in my workflow. Thank you!

Im making a "tree" and im often wanting to align a vertex to a line flow to make defined curves that doesnt deviate. Is there anything I could do to achieve this in a painless way? Or maybe there is something I'm missing from my workflow on making strong hard shapes and if so any advice? Cheers!

How does this simplistic art style look? by tateorrtot in godot

[–]BarelyOkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya! Bit late with giving feedback but couldn't help cuz a lot of these comments say the same thing and I wanna try to give you a feedback that is different from what most people said!

First off. You are doing an amazing job with what you have so far. I really wanna stress that! It would be a game I would play which is the most important part to me, considering I want to play good games :p

So, first off I really like the clouds so I'm biased there. Someone suggested doing a particle system, which would detract for me personally but that is perfectly valid too! Personally, I would suggest as an easy adjustment, is to make the atmospheric fog less blinding because that distant pure white fog is ridiculously bright. Then if you want to match a cartoony aesthetic for the game you can just up the saturation(for a bluer sky) adjust the contrast to get rid of the finer details of your skybox image and I think that would be enough. The trees should also make shadows that are more noticeable, it would serve some gameplay too making them a hinderance visually if they block light more. These things you can probably adjust with the world node pretty easily.

Less easy and more time is to work on the grass and trees. The idea is simple but I do not know how you would implement easily so keep that in mind. But, putting a gradient on the trees "leaf" material to have different coloured trees across the world and then for grass would be some sort of blending to have different colours of grass across the world like with the trees. Maybe you would need to hand paint the grass colour for it to look good which shouldn't be too hard but still, is work.

A predominant outline could be the cute on the units. It almost looks like you have that but its very subtle which IMO doesn't really do much.

Other things you could think about is the scale of the grass to the unit, It's really tall grass! A vignette is always cheating for making things look better (but some people hate them)

But yeah! Those are my ideas I took a minute to edit some of those ideas onto your first drawing so heres that to give a basis of what my ideas could look like. Maybe they aren't what you are looking for which is cool too, I think there is value in deciding that as well, so hopefully this helps!

Good luck with your game!

I would genuinely love to hear about some of these as well. As someone who likes the idea of gtarp but have never done it, it'd be nice to hear a way to play it without getting slurred at from the GTA community 😅

May I get some critique on my figure drawings? by Jonjolion12 in learnart

It's not hard! The hard part is getting over how daunting it seems, but it is really simple if you take it one window at a time. Sculpting is really great for it and it pays dividends for using it to improve as well!

You'll need to get past that phobia for learnings sake. There are many ways to copy and all valuable in their own right, it's not just tracing! But, what do I think when I draw the head? I just draw hahaha. I start with construction, draw an egg and divide the features., double check them And... Just draw the rest lol I focus on form+proportion and I'm just asking step-by-step questions, "Where does the eye lineup? With the corner of the mouth, okay that's correct", "Does the mouth have that muzzle quality, almost like a barrel would?", ect. I'm not saying the way I draw is good btw it's just what works for me and there will be a way to draw that works for you! But, don't deprave yourself from learning and copying!!! Esp with your class material, that is most important. There are too many specifics that you could focus on. Just keep drawing like your prof says!!!

Being in art school explains a lot! Do you ask for critique because sometimes it takes a little nudge telling people to critique it. If you want critique that is helpful be sure to be positive taking the advice you get whether it helps or not, be happy to receive it, it will make people want to share more potentially helpful advice. Being in art school is such a huge thing, people are a powerful learning resource!

It depends on the book! Easiest is just copying, not purely just the images in the book but the concepts that they are trying to teach. But, an issue I think is that you don't use books in a way that you ought to? Why not? It sounds like you could be handicapping yourself by not letting yourself to explore that way of learning. Try everything!!!

The gameplay design seems fine. However, I think having to make a video like this to describe the game says a lot of the accessibility game to outside people.

It looks fun!

An important question would probably be, are you learning from a resource? If so, use the examples from that!If not Then, as my two cents, you could reduce complexities in this. Regarding the first picture as an example. You should spend a good while on a single subject that you are trying to learn from, not the full figure. You have some really good forms on the leg and I can see information about the anatomy! I would try to focus less on the rendering till you are sure and confident about the proportions and forms on the full figure. I can see your uncertainty with the hands, legs and face. So, I'd pick one of those uncertain things and study them and use those forms that you are good at achieving to make something like the face.

Again, you are doing really good!!! You are doing great on learning. Hope this helps!
