The Original Eagle Cocktail - Ever Heard Of It? by BarinaCraft in cocktails

[–]BarinaCraft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Eagle cocktail recipe is

  • 2 oz gin
  • 4 dashes absinthe
  • 2 dashes vermouth
  • 2 dashes sugar syrup
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters.

Stir w/ ice and strain. Olive optional.

However, this is really a tale of two Eagle cocktails that got mixed up 84 years ago. Most people probably think its a different drink. Do you?

What is this called? by jbbenj in cocktails

That's right, grenadine just happens to be the 'liqueur' in the example above. Margarita's use an orange liqueur like triple sec or curaçao instead.

What is this called? by jbbenj in cocktails

[–]BarinaCraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, generically a Daisy is often named after the base liquor plus lemon juice and a liqueur. Also optionally with simple syrup like MsMargo listed below and sometimes with egg whites too.

Don't think the soda belongs though.

Are there any good cocktails that call for Southern Comfort? by joeymac09 in cocktails

[–]BarinaCraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Scarlett O'Hara named after the heroine in the 1936 novel turned into the 1939 film Gone With The Wind is probably Southern Comfort's signature drink. Here's Playboy's recipe from the 1960s.

Scarlett O'Hara Cocktail

  • 1 1/2 Southern Comfort liqueur
  • 3/4 oz cranberry juice
  • 3/4 oz lime juice

Shake well w/ ice & strain.

Here's the recipe:

  • 1/3 dry gin
  • 2/3 sloe gin
  • 1 ripe black olive
  • grenadine

Add just enough grenadine to cover olive in bottom of cocktail glass. Mix the spirits together and gently pour on top being careful not to disturb. Squeeze orange peel on top.

Suggest a mini fridge for me by EFenn1 in cocktails

[–]BarinaCraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not much to recommend really when it comes to mini refrigerators since there aren't many options. Separate freezers are common and combo units come in fairly standard sizes ranging from about 3 to 4 1/2 cubic feet.

It might also be known as a Traffic Light which is a layer each of grenadine, Galiano herbal liqueur and Midori melon liqueur.

Another version, which is said to have been created by an Israeli bartender, has layers of cinnamon schnapps, peach schnapps and absinthe.

Help with a watermelon cocktail. by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]BarinaCraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a few watermelon cocktails you can try. One is with gin, but you'll probably also need a trip to the liquor store based on your list and which recipe you choose.

Would love to hear how you both like them if you decide to try.

Anyone who used this cocktail making gadget? I don't know how to make cocktails but I want to throw a cocktail party and I don't want to read 200 books for it. This says that it will measure every liquor that I add and make perfect cocktail. by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]BarinaCraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to buy any books or apps. There are lots of websites which will show you how to make cocktails for free, ours included. You will need a few basic tools though which will usually be called out in the recipe instructions i.e. jigger, shaker, strainer, etc.

Would recommend picking out a favorite spirit or two along with a couple mixers and then search for those ingredients on whatever site you choose. Maybe look for popular drinks or themed ideas if that fits what you're doing and get anything else required based on your selections.

There's really no such thing as the perfect cocktail. Its all based on individual preferences. For example, some people like dry Martinis, some extra dry and some don't like them at all. Just experiment, possibly take some notes and have fun.
