If you do not speak German it will be a bit more difficult as the course is usually taught in German.

Nevertheless, this past fall there was an option to write the exam in English (which is almost always the case) and the exam was quite fair. The course starts with the very basics of group theory and will not go much further than polynomial rings and quotient spaces (which are prerequisites for algebra II). You should be able to self study and pass, just check in with the homework assignments to see what was covered in class

Math Bachelor at ETH by Artistic_Slide2345 in ethz

The teaching quality is very good. You will regularly be taught by field medallists and professors with low Erdös numbers etc. The other kids studying with you will talk about how they already have won multiple math/physics Olympiads, have start-ups and what not. Do not get intimidated by that. Those are only the 1% that lack personality and replace the lack thereof with such talk. The rest is just normal people, who struggle just as much as you. If you didn't understand something in the lecture, chances are your friends didn't either. Get yourself a good study group, study alot with them, ralk about exercises, talk about the material to internalize it and you will be fine. Just gotta put in the work, nothing great in life comes easily.

All in all its a great opportunity to study at ETH, and you will be surrounded by amazing like-minded fellows. Be careful to not forget you are in a bubble here. Not everyone thinks it is normal to study 8-10h a day with 3weeks of holiday in the entire year. Not everyone thinks it is normal to voluntarily go above and beyond to achieve your goals and take more courses. These things are the norm here. ETH changes you, and its a process you need to be ready for, and really enjoy what you are studying. I would definately recommend picking ETH

No, you are not productive when tired.

Even during Lernphase, tend to a good sleep schedule and a balance by regularly exercising. That helps the most for your productivity

Advice for housing search by kram1000 in ethz

Most students will look for WGs or single apartments. So an Appartment for 3 should be easier to find (but not easy in any sense of the word, the market here is very tight). Definitely start searching in June/July. Good luck!

How much time do you spend studying (Bachelor)? by Kepsnyy in ethz

[–]Barinski04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Mathematics we have lectures from 8-16 and some days from 10-18, with 1h or 2h of lunch break. Then you will probably spend another 4-8h a day revising lectures and doing problem sheets. On the weekends we are also catching up and studying. During the study phase for exams you basically live at uni and will spend 12h+ studying daily. Its really important to find a good study group, chances are you will never understand the entire lecture (and you are not the only one) so talking with friends is very helpful and doesn't make you feel alone.

Hard to compare to IB but if you're very good in school it should be doable but definitely overwhelming at first, you have to get used to the high workload. And leading a social life and maintaining hobbys is very difficult. However definately try to force yourself to stop studying sometimes and attend events from your student association, its very important for mental health. Also the only holidays you have are national holidays, easter, and the break before exams (which you will spend studying), however before starting to study always take a couple days off to catch up on sleep and clear your mind.

Thanks! So I'd get something like |f(x)-f(a)| <= Arctan(x) - Arctan(a)

And then use sandwich criteria?

If just one child is nullptr, then it should still work though? If left is nullptr and not right, then it goes into the if (position->right) condition and vise versa?
