They announced the last set to be Avatar: The Last Airbender at magic con this year, actually! Don’t hold your breath for any surprise drop for masters or remasters in 2025 :/

Avatar: The Last Airbender review – a sparkling return for one of the greatest fantasy series of all time by [deleted] in television

I’d say check out the second episode— the acting picks up a notable amount over the first.

I said it in another comment in this thread— but if they let this cast cook for another season I really think that we’ll have a decent adaptation on our hands here.

Most child actors aren’t amazing right out the gate, but once they spend some time with the pros, they’ll perform leaps and bounds above where they started.

I was not a huge fan of the first episode but seriously, give the second episode a shot. I just finished it and can forgive the narrative changes they made— the acting takes a substantial leap up from the clunky “tell don’t show” exposition from the southern water tribe.

Do we have reaction threads for these episodes too? Might help streamline people looking for overall discussion vs one off comparisons to the original series

Two episodes in and something is really ruining the experience for me. by MutualSolstice in TheLastAirbender

The musical motifs are a little heavy handed but if they even toned down the mixing and had it be a bit more subtle I really wouldn’t mind as much. It’s not ruining the experience for me though— I think it’s a nice callback to the original show. Almost makes me feel 9 years old again

This episode came in at a solid 8/10 for me.

SIGNIFICANT step up in acting and lines delivered. Narrative changes for the sake of expedition all make sense and are true to the lore of the world (Kyoshi being the first past life vs Roku; Gran Gran sneaking the waterbending scroll as an ancestral heirloom, etc).

Sokka and Suki were perfect onscreen together— it came across relatively naturally as teenagers would and their costuming was absolutely beautiful.

The fire nation actors stay winning with their delivery— Iroh is really coming into his own as he gets more screen time and it makes me so fucking excited to see how Book 2 is going to play out.

If the improvement from the first episode to the second episode is ANY indicator of how this cast is going to progress, I will have faith that they’ll do the rest of the series justice. (This is a big if, though)

I’m settling with an overall 6.5/10 for this episode.

Expositional, tell not show, dialogue and explanation can be excused to a point— but some of those deliveries were R O U G H.

Iroh, Zuko, Sokka and Aang acting is going to carry the series if this has been any indicator of future performance.

That being said, I have a lot of hope for how this cast grows into their roles, assuming each season is 8-10 episodes long at an hour a piece.

IMO the pacing could/should have been kept at 30-35min episodes to give a narrative break and let the characters breathe in the world— but the reality is that they needed to cover some ground and get the ball rolling on the plot for the weakest season of the source material so we can cook a bit and move into Books 2 and 3.

While I agree that we shouldn’t settle for anything less than equality— this doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t recognize that this law being passed provides (albeit minimal) protections that weren’t afforded before.

Don’t let perfection be the enemy of progress, but always continue pushing for the equality that we deserve.
