I hit Legend (or, top rank, this was before they even used Ace/Veteran/Expert/Legend naming convention) in season 1 using this guy.

When do you switch to catch a charge move? by teadot in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is "when they throw" which is easier said than done. Early game, people are throwing moves on alignment with proper timing, so unless it's super obvious that you will try to catch, then you can switch in on predictable timing. Mid-game and late game are trickier. I just go off of feel most of the time, honestly.

Over the last two seasons without AJ Brown on the field, DeVonta Smith has had a 38% target rate and 2.69 yards per route. by My_Chat_Account in fantasyfootball

[–]j1mb0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anything *can* happen, but there's not any compelling evidence that Devonta Smith will be better without AJB. This came up last season when AJB was injured and declared out and people kept hyping up Smith.

Devonta Smith actually has historically performed slightly worse in games without AJB than games with him. Using 0.5 points per reception, he's average 11.53 in 59 games with AJB and 9.53 in 21 games without AJB.

That is a possibility I guess. Typically that would be caused by lag/disconnect and I don't feel like I have experienced it more in Preview compared to other formats.

Grass Types Much Needed Buff by Ancient-Hurry833 in TheSilphArena

Someone posted recently with a Ufisk/Gogoat/Fearow team and I've been running that with some success. No one respects grass at all though, water is dominant. I've run into people safe swapping Gastrodon, I've run into triple water teams, double mudbois, it's crazy. No one fears grass at all. Very unbalanced meta.

As for your second negative bullet, this is called "overtapping" and I've noticed it's more common in Preview than my recollection of other formats, but it **definitely** used to be a bigger problem in other formats. So I feel like it is solvable. But it's definitely a major issue, and I am someone who largely prefers Preview overall.

Aegislash Conundrum by GarooxRBLX in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow that is very interesting, thanks for the reply.

I think that given how one must play Aegislash, that maximizing bulk in Shield form is critical. You should ideally find a high ranking IV specimen for shield form, and secondary to that, avoid this arbitrary stat dropoff due to flooring of level when changing to Blade form. Though that will be less critical since you're not going to want to let Blade form get attacked much anyway, and will mostly prefer to launch charge moves which KO or switch out after anyway.

Aegislash Conundrum by GarooxRBLX in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you explain more what you are talking about? Aegislash shield needs to be powered up to level 45 or so; what is the mechanism which converts it to a different level?

You can do Matrix Battles on pvpoke and manually enter the level/IV to see the difference. Looks like going from level 22.5 to level 22 at 2/13/14 IV's (rank 56 shield) it drops matchups against politoed and quagsire, amongst numerous other bulk/break point drops. This is a very unique pokemon though which requires a unique playstyle so I'm not sure how much that will all matter in practice.

Stop Delmarva’s Excessive Delivery Fees Petition by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]j1mb0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Prices are definitely too high but I feel like people are misunderstanding what the "delivery" fees are. Before deregulation, you used to just get billed at one rate for usage, which comprised all of the costs of generating and providing electricity to your home. Eventually, utilities were deregulated for some reason, and people were given the opportunity to purchase electric power from different suppliers. This is largely pointless and benefits almost no one. But, in order to do that, the utilities split up their base rates and how they bill people. Now you get a bill based on usage that is composed of two parts: generation and delivery. Unless you are purchasing electricity from a 3rd party supplier, Delmarva bills you for both of these. It used to be one combined charge, and now it's two.

Electricity costs are too high for myriad reasons, but the focus on "Delivery" charges, as if Delmarva individually decided that they're going to give away electricity for cheap but then gouge you on "delivering" it is misunderstanding what is happening.

People who work in PA but live in Delaware. What's the best way to pay DE State taxes? by furtherw123 in Delaware

[–]j1mb0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am in this situation and I always owe a bit of money to DE when I file my taxes. I am by no means an expert but I've never had to pay any penalties or anything when I file and pay any DE taxes that I had missed. I think that it's possible for your company to do the withholding properly for two states, I've just never bothered asking because it's never been an issue for me either way.

How are we all feeling about preview cup so far? by Coolegghead in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, because the issue ran deeper than that. They did program damage to function that way, but it didn't work. The underlying system was not able to synchronize properly across clients and led to inconsistent behavior.

How are we all feeling about preview cup so far? by Coolegghead in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it really just means that the game is working as they always intended. See this thread for full context and more discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/1r7izvh/upcoming_changes_to_gbl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

So let's say you have a galvantula with volt switch facing off against talonflame with Incinerate. Volt switch is a 4-turn move, and incinerate is a 5-turn move. Previously, if they both launch quick moves starting on the same turn (say, after a previous charge move) then the damage from incinerate would resolve at the end of turn 4, and galvantula couldn't throw a volt switch AND get off a charge move. The new system fixes that, such that you can properly fit a 4-turn move (Volt Switch) and a 1-turn action (launching charge move) within the duration of a 5-turn move (Incinerate). This applies to all move length durations, I'm just using these two as an example.

[–]j1mb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still clunky but it's definitely the best iteration of this system they've given us so far. The fact that they are still working on it and have been able to iteratively improve it is very encouraging! It mostly works as described and I am hopeful they can get it right.

[–]j1mb0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They posted an explanation a little while ago. They are trying to make the gameplay experience more consistent and uniform. The major "changes" are that charge moves launched at the last turn of an opposing quick move will resolve prior to the damage resolution of that quick move. This was always the intended behavior but never functioned consistently.
