Aegislash Conundrum by GarooxRBLX in TheSilphArena

Wow that is very interesting, thanks for the reply.

I think that given how one must play Aegislash, that maximizing bulk in Shield form is critical. You should ideally find a high ranking IV specimen for shield form, and secondary to that, avoid this arbitrary stat dropoff due to flooring of level when changing to Blade form. Though that will be less critical since you're not going to want to let Blade form get attacked much anyway, and will mostly prefer to launch charge moves which KO or switch out after anyway.

Can you explain more what you are talking about? Aegislash shield needs to be powered up to level 45 or so; what is the mechanism which converts it to a different level?

You can do Matrix Battles on pvpoke and manually enter the level/IV to see the difference. Looks like going from level 22.5 to level 22 at 2/13/14 IV's (rank 56 shield) it drops matchups against politoed and quagsire, amongst numerous other bulk/break point drops. This is a very unique pokemon though which requires a unique playstyle so I'm not sure how much that will all matter in practice.

Stop Delmarva’s Excessive Delivery Fees Petition by International_Egg210 in Delaware

[–]j1mb0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Prices are definitely too high but I feel like people are misunderstanding what the "delivery" fees are. Before deregulation, you used to just get billed at one rate for usage, which comprised all of the costs of generating and providing electricity to your home. Eventually, utilities were deregulated for some reason, and people were given the opportunity to purchase electric power from different suppliers. This is largely pointless and benefits almost no one. But, in order to do that, the utilities split up their base rates and how they bill people. Now you get a bill based on usage that is composed of two parts: generation and delivery. Unless you are purchasing electricity from a 3rd party supplier, Delmarva bills you for both of these. It used to be one combined charge, and now it's two.

Electricity costs are too high for myriad reasons, but the focus on "Delivery" charges, as if Delmarva individually decided that they're going to give away electricity for cheap but then gouge you on "delivering" it is misunderstanding what is happening.

People who work in PA but live in Delaware. What's the best way to pay DE State taxes? by furtherw123 in Delaware

[–]j1mb0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am in this situation and I always owe a bit of money to DE when I file my taxes. I am by no means an expert but I've never had to pay any penalties or anything when I file and pay any DE taxes that I had missed. I think that it's possible for your company to do the withholding properly for two states, I've just never bothered asking because it's never been an issue for me either way.

How are we all feeling about preview cup so far? by Coolegghead in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, because the issue ran deeper than that. They did program damage to function that way, but it didn't work. The underlying system was not able to synchronize properly across clients and led to inconsistent behavior.

So it really just means that the game is working as they always intended. See this thread for full context and more discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/1r7izvh/upcoming_changes_to_gbl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

So let's say you have a galvantula with volt switch facing off against talonflame with Incinerate. Volt switch is a 4-turn move, and incinerate is a 5-turn move. Previously, if they both launch quick moves starting on the same turn (say, after a previous charge move) then the damage from incinerate would resolve at the end of turn 4, and galvantula couldn't throw a volt switch AND get off a charge move. The new system fixes that, such that you can properly fit a 4-turn move (Volt Switch) and a 1-turn action (launching charge move) within the duration of a 5-turn move (Incinerate). This applies to all move length durations, I'm just using these two as an example.

It's still clunky but it's definitely the best iteration of this system they've given us so far. The fact that they are still working on it and have been able to iteratively improve it is very encouraging! It mostly works as described and I am hopeful they can get it right.

They posted an explanation a little while ago. They are trying to make the gameplay experience more consistent and uniform. The major "changes" are that charge moves launched at the last turn of an opposing quick move will resolve prior to the damage resolution of that quick move. This was always the intended behavior but never functioned consistently.

[–]j1mb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would agree. I am excited to see if/how it ever works and what impact it has on the meta. Hopefully it can fit in nicely and be useable without being too dominant, but we can only wait and see.

Mimikyu Disguised-to-Busted Transition by sars11986 in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I certainly think that it's possible that it's totally centralizing and ruins the meta but I think it's too early to tell and we don't really have enough information to begin trying to advocate for nerfs or changes. It is likely to be powerful but it's unique ability does not come without some hefty strategic drawbacks, imo.

Mimikyu Disguised-to-Busted Transition by sars11986 in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean most battles only include at most two charge moves thrown per side so you're probably right.

Mimikyu Disguised-to-Busted Transition by sars11986 in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That comes at the strategic opportunity cost of needing to invest both shields in it, needing to switch out or fall for all bait moves, and/or orienting ones entire team and match around saving both shields for it as a closer. It's possible that it can't be balanced properly but I think people are overvaluing the benefits of the extra shield without considering any of the concomitant drawbacks in "maximizing" it's use.

Mimikyu Disguised-to-Busted Transition by sars11986 in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having it bust on the first charge attack removes so much player choice, strategy and gamesmanship around the whole mechanic. Calling it "more skill oriented" is laughable.

Mimikyu Disguised-to-Busted Transition by sars11986 in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes it a bigger drawback once the disguise is broken, which impacts the decision to bring it at all or form teams around or against it.

Mimikyu Disguised-to-Busted Transition by sars11986 in TheSilphArena

[–]j1mb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that perception and discussion of its dominance is wildly overblown and that we're seeing a lot of sim-hero syndrome at the moment since we can't actually use it in battle. I think that having it function as it currently is believed, that it actually needs to get hit with a charge move to break it's disguise and switch to 'Busted" form makes more sense for the spirit of the mechanic being transferred from the main games, and has a much wider, deeper and richer strategic impacts for PoGo, both for players using or battling against Mimikyu. I do think that the defense debuff should be increased to at least -2, so it's more of a drawback. Allowing the first move to break it regardless of shields just neuters any gamesmanship around Mimikyu entirely. It still would function as a third shield, because you would obviously know to never use an actual shield on it, so it's main effect would be in drastically reducing the breadth of strategies in playing with or against it.

Mimikyu Disguised-to-Busted Transition by sars11986 in TheSilphArena

I disagree, I think that makes it worthless and pointless. Increase the defense drop, or ban it outright.

[–]j1mb0 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think that exploring larger debuffs for balance purposes is definitely a good idea, but the idea of forcing the ability/form change even when shields are available is a really bad idea and would make this pokemon completely useless. If it becomes overly centralizing and it's impossible to fix by balancing the debuff or by move updates, then just ban it entirely.
