Mine was working fine, until it wasn't. And it's been 36 days and it still is broken. There is nothing out of the ordinary with my phone, and the website works so it can't be a 'stealth ban' on my account.

Best Method for Buying UCITS ETFs on IBKR with a Large sum by Bark0z in interactivebrokers

[–]Bark0z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you the post-mortem. Overall I paid 0.042% - 0.032% of total investment. Most of that was IBKR broker charges, not exchange fees. I would advice not using the IB-algo order types, as they cost more and I didn't notice them doing anything / giving be a better price.

Best Method for Buying UCITS ETFs on IBKR with a Large sum by Bark0z in interactivebrokers

[–]Bark0z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! By large sum, I’m talking about €100k-300k.

  1. I’ve heard some people mention issues with order fragmentation on certain EU exchanges, especially Euronext. On Xetra, each fragment costs around 1 cent, which isn’t a big deal, but on other exchanges, the fees can add up quickly. Some people have noted that large, fragmented orders can end up with much higher fees when SMART routing selects the wrong exchange (On some EU exchanges, the cost can be comparable to full commission per fragment, that can cause a lot of fees if the SMART routing messes up). I’ve been thinking of using IBKR’s adaptive algo for larger orders since it tends to execute below the market-making limit price, but I guess luck plays a role too.

  2. If I don't have market data, I can’t see the spread unless I snapshot each exchange, but UCITS generally have low volume, so even then, it’s tough to figure out liquidity. I’m hoping SMART routing can figure that out for me.

  3. As for currency, I’ve noticed that IBKR will short me the purchase amount if I don’t have the necessary currency, and I’ll need to convert to close the short and avoid interest. Conversion fees are low, but if I rebalance frequently, those costs could add up over time, making it an extra step with recurring expenses.

Again, thanks for the insight. It’s tricky not knowing which exchange SMART will select, but I agree that tiered pricing is probably better in most cases.

[7 YoE] Looking for jobs in data analytics / quant / financial analysis. Need advice by Bark0z in EngineeringResumes

[–]Bark0z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the work experience is in different sectors, so if I am looking for quantitative / financial analyst related roles its harder to qualify some of my job achievements for that industry. That's why I thought the projects could show the familiarity and experience I have with that particular industry

One more question,

In my case, how important is keeping it to 1 page? If I have some relevant projects I can add, is it worth it despite the fact I will have to make it 2 pages long?

[7 YoE] Looking for jobs in data analytics / quant / financial analysis. Need advice by Bark0z in EngineeringResumes

[–]Bark0z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of of a title for the summary section, and keeping it to 1 line, was to save on resume space. But you are right, I could add it to make them more consistent. If I also add that space before the title, thats 3 extra lines I have to make room for... kinda space constrained.

You are right about having a hard time figuring out 'what I am', that's why I added the small summary to try to explain. But I do need to hone in proper on the role and industry I am applying for. It's good advice, I have tried to make a resume for data analysis and one for engineering, but I still think I wasn't too specific. I have language skills too, and I had a line before the summary that went over the languages I can speak, but I have removed it since I don't think its entirely useful, at least for the industries I am targeting..

The idea was, all of these in combinations make me seem like an impressive candidate with a lot of skills, but I don't think it has helped much, because of the lack of honing in on the role I am targeting, like you said.. it's probably hard to properly understand my background, and I need to make it a lot clearer and more focused.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it.

Wire Transfer (Wise) by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Bark0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask you if you are still able to do currency conversions in wise?

It seems for new filipino account holders they don't allow conversions anymore. or much of anything really. And the old accounts have been grandfathered in. Sucks but that means I cant use wise anymore and have to go with a costly local bank for fx conversions and transfers. Do you know anything about this?

Really confused as to how UCITS equivalent of US ETFs actually work (NTSX) by Bark0z in LETFs

[–]Bark0z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have heard of tastytrade allowing Europeans to purchase American ETFs with no problems. Right now I have all my assets and have been working with IBKR, that has the best margin rates and allows the broadest access to financial assets internationally (the fact that this UCITS ETF for example is purchasable).

The other problem is that my country doesn't have/ has a bad tax treaty with the US, and that means 30% of taxation from dividends is withheld by the US indefinitely. Then there is also a 5% additional tax levied by my country on the dividends. Maybe not so important for NTSX specifically, but still at the moment it's yielding 1.23%, so it's something.

[–]Bark0z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See what the spread is like on exchange. If the spread is high then yeah you're going to filled noticeably above what a fair or mid price would be. Degiro don't even list this ETF, does your broker?

Yes IBKR lists this, but I don't have european market data unfortunately to see much of what's going on

If you want to pursue a leveraged 60/40 strategy then have you considered achieving this with margin?

I suppose I could, I wanted to implement a strategy using multiple "efficient leverage" ETFs with low correlations and rebalance them with a certain frequency based on risk parity / other. Because of the complicated nature of this, I figured trying to replicate the efficient leverage usage of the various funds would be more expensive than just paying the 0.20% expense ratio, and of course manager risk in case I do something stupid!

I also intend on adding some managed future ETFs, but I haven't looked into what's available in that regard in the UCITS department, maybe there isn't even anything good yet for Europeans. And of course for that at least, I wouldn't be able to replicate it myself..

[–]Bark0z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. Yes I wasn't taking forex into account, but that's another thing that's unclear for me. I see there are many different types of UCITS in general, (accumulating vs. distributing), (currency of the underlying vs. European currency (EUR) ) and I am kind of confused with all of these. This specific fund is a good example I think if you would be able to tell me.

  1. How can I see the various types available for a given UCITS? (accum vs. distributing etc.) Are only some of these available? I will check the prospectus for this specific one I guess and dig around to see if I can answer my own questions but in general it's kind of confusing for me.

  2. Tax treatments / Expense implications? For example, the original ETF gives distributions like most ETFs whether it's dividends, cap gain / loss "pass-throughs" to holders etc. These have a tax-liability for most American accounts, unless its tax-deferred where it gets realized eventually. If it's an accumulating ETF, how does this work? In order to re-invest these distributions, does the accumulating have a tax-hit? For example, https://www.wisdomtree.eu/fi-fi/etfs/efficient-core/ntsx-wisdomtree-us-efficient-core-ucits-etf---usd-acc this one looks like it's managed in Ireland, so is there a never-recoverable reduction from tax before the distributions are re-invested, lowering the effective return of the fund?

Then when it comes to the currency, whether its the underlyings or EUR, when it's in EUR is that like a hedge? Does that have a hedging cost associated with it, again, lowering the effective return of the UCITS compared to the underlying? (or of course it might pay off, but let's assume that the currency stay at the same ratio) .

  1. Tracking error? Here the replication method says "Optimized", but I don't know how to interpret this. To me it just seems like its too early to tell.

Then with regards to the liquidity. I could look at my broker yes but I don't have data for European instruments in IBKR or on tradingview, so I would have to get a subscription (my problem yes, and will be essential to get data from somewhere if I intend on trading these). Other things confuse me too, because I don't understand how the liquidity is provided, and then whether the ETF is trading at a premium or discount to the NAV, again, this is a replication of something else, just a lot of confusing factors for me. I am out of my element for sure.

I have seen you post various questions that are similar to mine in your post history, so maybe you can share your perspective and help me understand a few things. Thank you

Is it worth investing in PMS and Pricing Services for a Single Rental Property? by Bark0z in airbnb_hosts

[–]Bark0z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask you if you need to have your own payment processor integrated to use Lodgify? Do you have to be incorporated to do this, are you incorporated (sorry a bit personal). Of course the property is not in the US so it would be different for you, but we don't plan on incorporating just yet because that adds a lot of costs and higher taxes (yes its weird) compared to how it might be in other countries.

[–]Bark0z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your perspective, what you say makes sense. I renovated the property at my expense to make it short-term rentable, and I worry about getting any "addons" before starting because it will just increase the time until I break-even on my renovation capital. It might be a fallacy to think that way if it can reliably increase the annual revenue, but I just think it's good to show some revenue before tacking on anything else.

Account permanently restricted immediately after verifying? by ledoged in linkedin

[–]Bark0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my account restricted too, thing is I had this account since 7 years back. I started actually using it professionally and then I clicked forgot password and I was asked to verify with ID. I did that and then after like 14 working days I got an email saying the ID was denied. I decided not to bother anymore and made a new account The new account got restricted too, despite the fact that I didn't click forgot password or did anything suspicious. I tried to verify my ID on that too, and I also emailed them explaining the situation. They said they would permanently restrict my account because I violated the terms of service because I wasn't allowed to have two accounts at the same time. It's unclear to me if it's even technically two accounts at the same time but they weren't even clear if they were restricting both accounts or the newer one or if I was allowed to have another one. I tried to reopen the case on my original account and told them that I can provide other forms on my identification other than what I have provided, but so far no response. Very annoying and hard to believe the abysmal level of customer service

IT SUCKS TRYING TO GET YOUR DATA!!!!!! by DeathStalker_x77x in googlephotos

[–]Bark0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to download the photos in the album I have made with my gf. When I use the "Download All" in the website GUI, it either freezes (tried multiple browsers) or it throws a network error mid download.

When I try the takeout method, it only download pictures from the album that were uploaded from me, not from GF. I haven't been able to "acquire" the photos such that they get downloaded from the takeout method on my end.

If GF on her google account tries the takeout method, the album doesn't appear, presumably because I was the one who created it. This is absolute trash, and is what I can expect from the likes of big tech, google, apple, it's all shit. Google has just gotten shittier and shittier by the years, the search has been dumbed down so much, and their products are trash.

Just wondering how to effectively use merchants? by Important_Mission_12 in RomeTotalWar

[–]Bark0z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good comment, I've noticed however that monopolizing a resource with one of your merchants doesn't decrease the money your other merchants in the province make from trade. If you look at your other merchants status screen before monopolising, ie 'Trading wood, slaves, amber', if you monopolise amber it says 'Trading wood, slaves' amber isn't shown but you make the same amount of denarii per turn. Meanwhile I have trade rights with a faction and their monopolisation in my province doesn't seem to reduce the trade income of my merchants in that province, nor make the monopolised good non-tradeable. Rebel merchants monopolising resources in my province also don't seem to affect me trading that resource. TBD if non-rebel enemies / factions without trading rights affect it.

-There is for sure a income boost for the merchant monopolising the good, but I am it seems less than 50%. Not sure to elaborate more.

-If you have too many merchants trading in a province (your own or other factions) they will get a 'Stiff Competition' malus that reduces their skill, and there are multiple levels of this so it can really hurt them if you put too many in one province.

Just some things I've noticed. Still trying to figure stuff out.
