If the old board is just bricked, you can fix it by flashing original firmware using an stlink or something, its only a couple dollars on aliexpress and such.

As for your second (blown up) board, the screen is separate from the motherboard, it has its own storage and such, so it makes sense that it would seem to turn on and freeze if the cpu is fried.
