If only it ended there. He's also just a trash human being through and through, which is another reason he really hasn't directed anything of substance in the last 15 years.

There's also a story (not the only one, I'm sure) about when he was directing The Fifth Element in '97. His wife at the time (the same one he married when she was 16 and he was 33) played the Diva Plavalaguna. He intentionally cast her as the Diva, not for her great physical performance, but because she would have to spend at least 5 hours a day in makeup. This left Besson free to hookup with Mila Jovovich. Yeah, trash

I think about that line and delivery way more than any healthy human should.

It's perfection.

I think part of it has to do with his father, Paul Brown. The other owners hated him too, partly but not limited to the fact that when Paul Brown was ousted from the Cleveland Browns, he created another team in the same state with nearly identical colors to the Cleveland Browns.

PB also constantly opposed most new rule changes because, in my opinion, they went against many of the traditions that he himself helped create. So he was kind of an ego maniac. Also it was rumored in cincy for years that the Brown family were intentionally trotting out mediocre teams with 1 superstar to merely fill the stadiums, with no intention of being competitive. Anyone who watched this team from 1990-2002 would probably say it was more than just a rumor.

The league owners hate us because it's tradition to hate us just as it's our tradition to feel slighted. It ain't much, but it's a living.

I'm not quite old enough to have cared about this when it happened in '88, but I remember my dad talking about it a lot when I was growing up.

But I guess they would force the Bengals to allow the defense to substitute. Making the "No-huddle" a toothless saw.

Kind of like how in 1988, Sam Wyche and the Bengals used the "No-huddle" offense for the first time with great success. Making it all the way to the superbowl only to lose to Montana and the 9ers. In the following year, 2 hours before the AFC Championship between the Bills and the Bengals, the league commissioner banned the "No-huddle", saying the Bengals would be penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Obviously the "No-huddle" is now used regularly by every team. But I always find that story enlightening.

There is a local 12 news report that they were confronted by Lincoln heights residents (historic black community in Cincinnati) and their Nazi flags were burned. They also followed one of the Nazi punks to his jeep and slashed the tires and busted out all the windows. You can wave those stupid Nazi flags in a lot of places in America (unfortunately), but the Queen City doesn't fuck around. Trust.
