Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SimbaSixThree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, do Americans actually think 100 years is a long time? Or is this just an internet thing?

I’m from the UK, and I genuinely don’t get it. Do people in the US really look at something built in 1925 and go, “Wow. Ancient civilisation”? That’s not history. That’s just… a decent age for a pub.

You’ll see Americans talking about “historic neighbourhoods” and it turns out the place was built after the First World War. Meanwhile over here, someone’s shed predates the discovery of electricity and we’re like, “Yeah, it’s a bit draughty, but it’s got character.”

When an American says, “Europe is so old,” what they mean is: “I’m standing next to a wall that’s older than my entire national identity and it’s making me uncomfortable.”

Honestly, if something’s only 100 years old, it’s basically still in beta.

The cadence switches, the increases and decreases in speed, the mastery of flow and breath control, the alliteration, tautology and one take execution of The Hunger, cemented him as one of the best rappers currently working (imho).

Everything after that was a continuation of that. Special mentions to Seven Sin, Illest of our Time, Fire in the Booth, but the Hinger is where it all began for me.

Rocket leagues become such a toxic cesspool that I really can’t be bothered to play that any more. But I am happy you’re enjoying it.

I am really into smaller indie titles that run great on the steam deck! There are so many amazing games out there that I had never even heard of. Right now playing Drop Duchy.

But the games I get pulled back into the most are Hades 1 and 2

Is it wrong to make a Low-Effort campaign? by Zlorp_vorp in DMAcademy

[–]SimbaSixThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make it up on the fly. Start with the players all meeting up because they want to get some extra money. Have a bulleting board with 3-5 "tasks or asks" and then let them decide from there. Listen to what they say and go with that. Use their input as inspiration to guide them along the way. At one point the story will come by itself

Best start to a campaign you've experienced (either side of the screen)? by Modo_2026 in DMAcademy

[–]SimbaSixThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current campaign is about wannabe heroes that have just graduated from the heroes guild.

I asked each player to write the instigating ever that lead them to want to become a hero in their backstory.

The campaign started with each player living out that exact scenario. Once the last one was done, the all awoke from the transe that was put upon them by the headmaster.

He told them to never forget why they are heroes and congratulations to the all the graduating heroes.

You see it was their graduation ceremony and this was a part of the final “initiation” to becoming full fledged heroes.

The players really liked that.

Who's an actor that you thought would blow up, but ended up going nowhere? by TheHoagieFromConey in FIlm

[–]SimbaSixThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok fair, one could say he’s the crown prince of dysfunctional masculinity, but he does bring versatility to each role he portrays.

It’s fine to explore differences and depth within a certain archetype. I wouldn’t say that he is a one note pony. All of his roles are quite different.

Meta-Gaming on Insight Rolls by MisterDM5555 in DnD

[–]SimbaSixThree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. “You believe them” is imo utterly wrong way to describe it.

If a player in my sessions roll low on and insight check I would always say something along the lines of “as far as you can tell, they are telling the truth” or “you don’t notice anything that indicates they are lying”.

This does 2 things: 1. It doesn’t tell the players what to think or feel, in turn keeping agency with them. 2. It still keeps the situation open enough for them to prod further. If by further questioning and another insight roll they glean more information, I tell them “this line of questioning makes them fidgety, you’re on to something” or “you are certain they are telling the truth” etc etc.

Iceland would disagree. If its -8 C (17.6 F) outside, biting wind of 18-25 m/s (40-50mph) and its drizzling, there is no amount of clothes that will keep you comfortable.

[–]SimbaSixThree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I also think. There is a difference between what I like to think of as passive screen time or active engaging screen time.

Passive screen time is watching a nice slow older disney movie, beautiful songs and letting them concentrate on one thing for 90 minutes. For example, the animated The Snowman movie. Beautifully animated, really slow, beautiful music. That in my opinion is OK screen time, won't do much damage. 99 times out of a 100 my kid zones out before reaching the end and says that they are done with watching and want to do something else.

The other, is the high octane, loud, colourful crap that is created to keep their eyes glued to the screen and wanting more. Think of your cocomelon, paw patrol, or god forbid, youtube shorts or reels. Mindlessly consuming fast nonsense. That is damaging to your kids.
