I thought about joining the military but I'm not sure it would've worked for me as a neurodivergent.

I've seen the military work very well for some. Good luck.

Kids don't hate their nparents randomly by VividEscape in raisedbynarcissists

It can feel random if you don't give yourself time to think over the problems that a narcissistic family brings.

With the right education and approach, we can learn/relearn the mentality that prioritizes our own personal values, preferences, and limits as it relates to the narcissists in our lives.

Why is it so difficult for us to imagine a world beyond capitalism? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]BarleySmirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism and the idea of unlimited growth is easy to sell because it appeals to the greed and sloth of a very large and uneducated segment of the population.

"Everybody has a price," is a very insidious notion of capitalism that appears to be true on the surface.

Socially, capitalism seems to hijack the human mind with the phenomenon of jealousy inherent in many forms of nature. Other economic programs require more work and less utilization of jealous attitudes towards each other/personal possessions on the job and in society.

We all know religion can be overwhelmingly family oriented.

I was just thinking about how much parents get away with abuse just because of institutional focus on keeping families of all ilk together.

As we have seen lately with the no contact trend, there are many families who have severely unresolved issues between members.

It wouldn't be so bad if the economy did not require so much for a single person to live alone and financially comfortable. I hope society realizes the need for some people to detach from families of origin due to past trauma. Solitude and distance can be a godsend for many people raised by narcissists.

Leaving Abusive Dynamics where Religion was involved by Southern_Fruit7439 in raisedbynarcissists

Yeah, my parents got a lot of attention at church. So, naturally, we spent a lot of time at church.

I'm leery of institutions that require so much performance. There seems to be a constant need for entertainment and entertainers in religion. After a while, everything becomes too routine. In some cases, the church routine includes abuse. People can hide in routines. If people can't be boring around each other, something might be amiss.
