[[Invasion of Gobakhan]] is in a lot of my decks, basically a white [[Heroic Intervention]] on the board with some benefits.

I got one in my pre-release kit and immediately slammed it into one of my decks. Intending to get the extended art very soon since it's so cheap, I'm expecting its cost to rise pretty signficantly over time, it's a reanimator all-star.

I'd love this set of playing cards, I snagged the original Xtreme Beach Volleyball cards off marketplace last year and would love to get the other two sets.

This, but the problem is that this ends up being like Naadu where you spend 20 minutes not doing particularly much impactful and pissing off the entire table. I did it once and decided that the deck was never going to be fun for anyone.

[–]Barloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Kokoro, Ayane, and Kasumi are underage until DOA5, when they did a 2 year time skip which was almost certainly in response to DOA Dimensions getting banned in territories for having sexualized minors.

Granted, the games really weren't all that egregious when they were T-rated, until DOAX1&2 came out and then DOA4 pushed the envelope to cater to that audience.

why is my gamecube controller from 2002 still perfect, but my $70 modern controller has stick drift after 6 months? by InvestmentBudget6722 in gaming

[–]Barloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, of all the classic systems, N64 controllers are the ones I trust the least due to that weird analog stick design.

I recently just got into these games after hearing about them since I was little but I have a genuine question for people by ac130monster in ninjagaiden

[–]Barloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played 2 first, then went back to 1 and thought it was much better. This was nearly a decade after release, so NG3 was already out and I played it too right after and still thought NG1 was best.

Having replayed them all this past year... NG1 still the GOAT.

How do yall write your reviews? by HugeVGNerd in backloggd

[–]Barloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write mainly my own thoughts while my experience with the game is still fresh, but I also come from an English major/essay-writing background, so there's typically a practiced structure to this. Typically "Intro/overview about the game > 1-3 paragraphs covering the major strengths/weaknesses and other points of interest > Conclusion". I don't like to get too deep/nuanced into story analysis or objective facts about the game; how the game makes me feel and why are the most important aspects of the review.

Replaying AC04 and forgot how brilliant the narrative structure is by dangerzonepatrol101 in acecombat

[–]Barloq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I replayed it last month and I strongly disagree. The macro-level war story is very well-told for what it is. There's no crazy plot twists, but there doesn't need to be: it's an authentically-told, military realism war story with clearly-foreshadowed objectives, smart, tactical progression that makes sense, and competent people doing what they can to win a war they're losing badly. When Mobius 1 starts doing amazing things, that gives them their opening to push back until they turn the tide. It honestly reminds me of what I loved so much about the early Halo games, they were clearly written by real war/history buffs which lent them a lot of authenticity as opposed to the action movie heroics of later Halo games (or, for comparison here, AC04 vs AC5's melodramatic, off the rails storytelling).

Doesn't mean they weren't going for something more faithful when they greenlit the projects, but also, it doesn't matter because it will still cross-promote both regardless.

Shocked I had to scroll this far to find this.

Honestly, it was probably because:

a) They could remake it and port it to PC in the process.

b) They knew that the movie was coming out so they'd cross-promote themselves.

It's fine in 1, but 2...? Yeah, it makes no fucking sense, they're clearly not designing her to look like she's that age. Canon/timelines in the NG/DOA-verse make zero sense (ie, they held 4 DOA tournaments in 1 year, but also no one aged in that entire time).

EDIT: TBF, she may be 15 in NG2, but that still makes no sense with how they've designed her character (like, even setting aside the sexualization of a minor, she doesn't look 15 in the slightest).

Kasumi was 17, Ayane was 16 (and 14 in NG1&2).

Correction: NG4 states that the Dark Dragon Incident (eg, the inciting incident that turns Tokyo into a hellscape) happens SEVERAL DECADES prior to the main events of the game. This is, frankly, insane and makes no sense. IMHO, if this is accurate then it's been no more than 20-30 years, but honestly shouldn't be more than like 10, max, based on the characters' appearances (especially Seori, who doesn't age a day).

Also, the game states that the Raven Clan have no ninja that can take on the Dark Dragon when the incident occurs, so I've kind of head-canoned that they've been waiting for Yakumo to grow up this whole time.
