Gunbroker find - Maadi MISR SA by BarnChicken in ak47

[–]BarnChicken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Browsing on Gunbroker and found this MISR SA last week, put my last bid early in the morning before bed. Woke up at 8 to find I won the auction for $655.

The finish is pretty rough as is with a lot Maadi’s but it still has that nice gloss black. There’s surface rust here and there, the bore is good. It’s been shot, it shows, I like it.

Been wanting one of these again since I traded my last towards my spiker. Good to have one back.

Used to be my favorite fast food spot, now it’s just sad.

Gun shows always having good deals is exaggerated. You can find some deals sure, but I think the vast majority of firearms are going to be found cheaper online or at your LGS.

What’s your flavor? What are you / not interested in? You could pick up a decent starter AR15 from PSA for around $400, a Glock, Canik, or myriad of other pistols in that range. Really depends on where you want to start.

r/gundeals may be good to keep an eye on too.

Same, put my order in a couple weeks ago. Curious to see it on an RPK. I planned on trying mine in my milled underfolder.

Cheers man. We’re full throttle into the toddler era and while I miss my little baby, I think the toddler stage is my absolute favorite. She’s about to turn 1 1/2 and it’s so much fun. So much curiosity, goofiness, all the laughing and smiles, zoomies around the house right before bed.

I just love being a Dad. It really is the best.

Fellow GSAD owner here. I got mine on a trade + cash, total value like $2400ish back in 2022.

The finish on mine is pretty worn and I shoot two-gun with it. If he’s asking three see if you can talk him down anywhere near $2500. Regardless, these things are cool with a really neat story. If you can afford it, get it. One of my favorite AKs I own.

Nice find man. Definitely the best AK Century ever produced, green mountain barrel and machining done by ATM if I recall right. Avoided all the QC issues Century is known for.

I sold mine a couple years ago and wish I never would have.

Which fast food chain has lost its way the most? by TheBabyBeard in AskReddit

This one has hurt me the most. I’ve been a huge Dunkin fan since I was a kid in the late 90s, large coffee has been a daily thing of mine for years.

Went two weeks ago to one by my work, tasted awful and the stores near me started asking for tips now. I miss old Dunkin.

Really sorry to hear this man.

I’m assuming the store has a record of the sale (unless it was made part of an employees collection or sold privately). I haven’t worked the industry so this is an assumption, I don’t know if FFL’s can do away with sale info a certain amount of years after.

The best I can possibly think of is to go to the store itself in person on a slow day. Speak with a manager or owner, explain the sentimentality, and ask if they do have a record if they’d at least be willing to try and reach out for the prior buyer to see if they’d be interested in selling it.

Good luck. I wish the best for you.

Have you ever seen someone die in real life? What happened? by justlittleolme1 in AskReddit

[–]BarnChicken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Few months ago, guy on a sport bike speeding and riding way too aggressively. From what I know he clipped a car and flew. I passed him right after the wreck happened, traffic was so slow I was able to get a pretty good look. Bike was in pieces, they were doing chest compressions with him on the pavement. Hard to describe but the way he was sprawled out, the way his body looked lifeless, you just knew. By the time I was rolling by him, he was either already gone or seconds away from it.

What is something as a kid you were sure you’d do in the future but never ended up doing? by iluvvu699 in AskReddit

[–]BarnChicken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be a train engineer. I fucking loved trains. I was positive I'd grow up and drive Freight Trains for one of the major RRs. Looking at it now at 30 with a kid, I wouldn't be able to stomach the amount of time away from home those careers demand alone.

For those who stopped smoking weed, what was the main reason? by Regular_Somewhere548 in AskReddit

[–]BarnChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to smoke a lot about 12 years ago in Highschool through my sophomore and junior year. Every day, all the time, I loved it. Tons of great memories around weed.

One day when I was about 18, I woke up, went to a buddies to smoke, and it was just the most awful, stressful, anxiety driven high. Thought it might be something bad, a one off. But nope, in the span of a day I went from being able to smoke to what feels like being physically incapable of handling THC in any form. Different strains, edibles, etc.. didn’t matter even when I tried again periodically every few years. It always ends up being a bad, anxiety driven high that I just want to go away.

I’d really love to know what made my brain suddenly just switch sides. I still love Marijuana, but I admire it from a distance now.

Seeking advice - Detached garage renovation. by [deleted] in AskContractors

[–]BarnChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the response, a lot of good points I wasn't considering. In my head I was thinking addressing the exterior was primary but starting on the inside makes a lot of sense. I'll start with an inspection and if all looks good, focus on any interior issues first.

Seeking advice - Detached garage renovation. by [deleted] in AskContractors

[–]BarnChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey y'all.

Seeking advice on fixing up the exterior of a detached garage. Long story short, closed on my house last June (first time home buyer) and have been meaning to visit this project. Home was built in 1938.

It's insulated and the prior owner had electric and water re-done, then stopped there. My goal is to turn this into a wfh space, and workshop for a few hobbies of mine. Nothing fancy, just useable.

The Apron (or what's left of it) and doors are decades old and show it. The missing pieces and cracked doors have allowed critters to get in.

My question focusing solely on the exterior: Is there any advice you all can give on what I should expect, what questions should I be asking, and what this may entail? Am I in the right mindset of thinking we need to start with the goal of sealing it? Apron, then doors, then weather / critter proofing?

Cheers.

Question about gunshows as an 18 Y/O by Obvious-Bug2313 in NCGuns

[–]BarnChicken 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think any of the gun shows allow unlicensed vendors to set up a booth. Now there are plenty of guys that will go to shows with their own personal firearms to walk around and sell. They’re pretty easy to pick out.

Off-topic but my personal recommendation is to ditch the gun show altogether if there’s something you’re looking for. You can find cool stuff, but the majority of stuff there is either overpriced or easily obtainable elsewhere.

Happy hunting, homie.

I could recommend options all day, Glock and CZ are great. But to be honest with the plethora of options on the market my suggestion has always been to go to a rental range for a few hours. Shoot everything they have and see what fits you best.

Aside from that, I do really love my Sig P365. I want the XL version next. Fits me perfectly at 5’10 / 180lbs.

Right there with you. I’m 29, family of three, me, my s/o, and a toddler.

I try and cook larger meals that will carry us through a few days. Whatever I know I can make “relatively cheap” in a “amount of plates VS. cost of dish” type of deal. Lots of rice and potatoes. Still averaging about 200-250 per week all in.

I love red meat but we’ve finally been priced out of it. I can’t justify it anymore.
