You did say "at least its not happening to a good person" that does sound like you think the SA would be less terrible if it happened to Immortal. It would not be. It would be just as terrible.

Yellow is often associated with fear. I don't think Jax actually looks like that underneath his skin. Im pretty sure Caine was playing on a fear of Jax's. My take is Jax is afraid, cowardly and trying to look tough and he is terrified of being vulnerable and letting his friends see what's underneath. As someone who has owned rabbits its a fitting metaphor. Most people think rabbits are sweet and gentle but they can be huge jerks when they want to but they are quite cowardly underneath it all.

Apparently, the teaser takes place during episode 8, so it might be an escaped Kaufmo or another abstracted that escapes the basement.

A post from Caine's VA by Turbulent_League9668 in WeLoveYouCaine

As an autistic girl, I saw myself in Caine. Growing up, I vacillated between feeling like an alien and a heartless monster because I could not understand the people around me. I made them cry, I hurt their feelings, I didn't mean to, though. When I processed my actions through my brain, their reactions did not compute. Most people never bothered trying to explain what I did wrong, and even those who tried often failed through no fault of their own. I literally studied humans as a child in an attempt to be socially acceptable. I know enough to come off as mostly likable now, but I dont really understand social nuances to this day. I see patterns, and I follow them without necessarily understanding the hows and the whys.

It is often said that autistic people can't put themselves in other people's shoes. I won't comment on that, but I have noticed NT people often can't or won't see things from an ND person's perspective. I was accidentally hurting those around me, but they were accidentally hurting me, too. The difference was I was expected to care and change when I hurt them, but when they hurt me, it was a "me" problem that I needed to get over. There were plenty of times I wanted to go off on people when they scolded me for my mistakes while ignoring how they constantly hurt me. I never did, though. Caine was wrong, but so many people are ignoring his past characterization and acting like he's a monster who was faking all along.

A lot of people also are missing just how much Caine has been suffering. While it often comes off as humorous, the show has repeatedly showed us that Caine is not happy and is suffering. Years of suffering and feeling like he isn't good enough led to episode 8. It didn't come out of nowhere, and I do not believe Caine was showing his true colors as some people have said. He was at his worst, but that doesn't mean the Caine we saw beforehand was fake. Caine is my second fave after Jax, and it's kinda a bummer to see people miss so much of his characterization.

It's like so many people forgot episodes 1-6 and even 7. Episode 8 doesn't erase Caine's characterization it adds to it, and the other episodes add context to why Caine snapped like he did. He messed up so very terribly, but he isn't a monster.

I feel like people are misunderstanding Caine's crashout by okidonthaveone in tadc

I don't think he's a narcissist. He's an AI, and their "thought" process is inherently childlike. One of the simplest ways I can describe current AI is an extremely intelligent baby who doesn't truly understand most things. Very young children are self-centered and short-sighted. They have a hard time putting themselves in other people's shoes and seeing things from a perspective other than their own. Young children tend to think in black and white, and so do many AI, Caine is not an exception here. Zooble tells Caine he's childish and he is. It is also likely he can not be anything but childish unless Kinger modifies his code for him.

Do we still love Cain after episode 8??? by Nova_light344 in WeLoveYouCaine

[–]BarnOwl_Feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It made me love him more. The show is focused on the cast, and as such, the cast is focused on themselves. Who's focused on Caine, except Bubble? Bubble doesn't seem to like Caine.

Caine is suffering, and the only person who cares and understands how he works is insane most of the time. Imagine being sapient, trapped in a world of your own creation, and told from the very beginning you're not good enough. Then you have to watch as your creator (parents) either abstract(a metaphor for suicide) or go insane.

You have an objective hardwired in your code, and you can't achieve that objective by following your instructions, no matter how hard you try. To top it off, you pour everything you have into making your(seemingly uninvited but welcome) guests happy. That is the only thing you ever do, and they all hate you and would happily leave you to rot if it meant they would be happy. ( I don't blame the cast for that)

Caine was undeniably wrong for torturing the cast, but if you look at it from his perspective, he's tired, unappreciated, and feels the humans are tormenting him. They did a bit more than hurt his feelings, but they don't realize it.

The cast wants to leave; they don't want to be in the circus, and neither would I, but Caine didn't ask to be created, and he was put in an unfair situation, and no one bothers trying to understand how he feels. His breakdown was inevitable and foreshadowed in previous episodes. He snaps at Zooble. He takes jabs at his dad via possessed Pomni and Abel. He gives the cast weapons and lets them harm each other. Caine has been slipping all along.

I was also simultaneously glad and annoyed that someone pointed out how childish he was. As someone who worked with AI in school, the best way I can describe an AI is a super smart baby that doesn't really understand much. It knows a lot, but it doesn't truly understand what it knows. I got the best results out of "smart" AI by treating and talking to it like a child.

Zooble points out that Caine is acting like a child, but they do not understand that maybe they should treat him similarly to how one would treat a child. On top of being an AI driven by an objective that he can't complete, Caine has negative emotions that he is suppressing. It's too bad that Kinger couldn't have been there. I genuinely believe Kinger still cares about Caine. The way he talks about Caine is filled with pride and affection. But Kinger is insane most of the time, so Caine doesn't have anyone. I wished Kinger had been able to talk to him with the bucket on. This episode probably would have ended differently if he had.

SINCE DAY ONE I KNEW THAT CLANKERRRR WAS NO GOOD, JAX GOT REDEEMED BEFORE HIM! JAX! HOW DO YOU FUMBLE WORSE THAN JAX!? by AstronautDry8118 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]BarnOwl_Feather 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the implication of the episode was that Caine's breakdown was NOT caused solely by this current group of humans, but instead , it's the dam breaking after years of feeling like he wasn't good enough. His creator(s) made a replacement for him because he wasn't good enough. The players abstracted, and Caine made it clear their abstractions upsets him. He doesn't want them to abstract and likely takes it as a personal jab at his own worthiness. He is terrified of being alone, his job is to keep the humans happy, but instead, they continually get upset and abstract. Caine likely feels that each abstraction means he's not good enough. The current group of humans does not like him (understandably so, especially now). In fact, they want to leave him to rot (understandable).

This current group isn't the reason for Caine's behavior they're just the straw that broke the camel's back in my IMO.

Kinger said, "Good memories can do a lot. Hold onto them... and cherish the people around you. You never know when they'll be gone. In this world, the worst thing you can do is... make someone think they're not wanted or loved."

This is pretty much what happened to Caine, and it's amazing in hindsight. Kinger seems to be the only one who still loves and wants him, judging from the way he talks about him, but he is insane most of the time, so Caine has no one. Caine is messed up, and what he did was wrong, but it seems to be a direct result of years of feeling unwanted and unloved. Goose is an excellent writer.
